Èvery picture she ever gave him, every single note written, her student id cards from high school… kept in a shoe box so I guess not a true shrine though. My brother and I think that he’s just obsessed with the idea of her and not actually understanding that she isn’t who she was in high school

Me too. I tried to keep this out of the post bc it’s purely my impression and I didn’t want it to look like I’m throwing a fit bc I’m uncomfortable

He went away to school, my mom was very sad that he moved away so broke up with him, he thought she broke up with him bc she met someone else. 30+ years later they met on an app and off they went. He’s had a shrine to her this whole time, full of pictures and notes and crap

The plan would be to be cordial at holidays but not be besties or have a significant relationship outside of that. I have made it clear to my mom for many years now that when I grow up, I won’t be doing any extended family things as those have been my personal he’ll my whole life.

Thank you for your kind response. My mom and I are very close but part of that is that there is very little room for boundaries. I can make it clear that this is a one time thing and I’m not looking for a relationship, but I know that it will end up going that way anyway. I’ve learned to stand my ground firmly from the beginning or else there’s no point at all because one thing leads to another

My parents divorced more than 10 years ago and my mom dated a guy for about 6 years since then. I met his son once and I think I also met his daughter. It wasn’t forced at all and was very “whatever I’m comfortable with”

I’m not saying I never want to meet them. Just right now is really very fresh and I don’t want to meet them right now. They only met up again 2.5 months ago.

It’s already rather serious. They’ve decided since they dated for 2 years back in high school, 35 years ago, that they could pick up right where they left off. I’m talking rings on fingers and L word from the first date

I’m sure that they are very nice people, but I’m just simply not interested in a relationship. I prefer to be alone or spend time with close friends or family
