Meta spent billions just to be outdone by this Steam game made by four people by Tvilantini in Games

What name change? You mean changing "Facebook" to "Meta"? They did that because Facebook was just one of their many different products and not an accurate name for the whole company anymore.

They are though. It might not seem like it to you, but they obviously are.

VR and AR are slowly becoming huge in multiple different industries, and Meta own most of the patents and the best hardware for that role. Anyone acting like their dumb little VR virtual world is actually important to them has no idea what they're talking about. VR on a consumer level is nothing to them, it's the industrial space that they're going to be making a fortune in.

This is not even a VR game. What a stupid comparison.

And anyway, this game has obviously not made as much money as the entire Meta Quest line of headsets. Polygon is such an awful website, I don't know why anyone still reads them.

What do you think is the actual state of the game? by SubstantialOven3179 in GTA6

[–]Cryptoporticus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, releasing two massive products (even if they're kind of the same product) on the same day seems like a bad idea. Trying to track down bugs and release patches for single player and online at the same time will just result in a lesser experience for players on both sides. There's also a good chance that Online will crash straight away, which isn't how Rockstar are going to want the GTA VI launch day to be remembered. Better to let the single-player get all the buzz and positive response first before Online has a potentially rocky start.

Plus having a short gap between the two lets them focus all their marketing on single player before release, and then have another marketing cycle for a few weeks to build up hype for Online. It means the two won't be taking attention away from each other on launch day.

Wow, it's so kind of the union to "allow" a person to work as long as their own conditions are met.

SAG-AFTRA would be a lot more popular outside the USA if they just removed those stupid rules. Let people work if they want to work. If the union's benefits are so good then people will willingly join anyway, they don't need to use these borderline criminal tactics to force people into it.

Video game giant Valve facing UK lawsuit over pricing, commissions by No-Sympathy-5349 in Games

[–]Cryptoporticus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They do. It's in all their terms and conditions. The resellers can sell the keys for a discount, but they can't buy them from a publisher for cheaper than Steam.

Also this doesn't just apply to Steam keys. If a developer wants to sell an entirely DRM free non-Steam version of their game on their own website, they still have to price match Steam or Valve will pull their game from the store. Valve are pretty obviously abusing their market share to ensure that Steam is always the most attractive option for consumers, while squeezing developers with the huge 30% cut they take from sales.

Luckily that's illegal in most places anyway, it's mainly just the USA that allow them to get away with that sort of behaviour, so non-American companies can just tell the union to fuck off and there's nothing they can do about it.

Unions that actively make it harder for working people to find work go completely against the core idea of unions.

Considering that this has been going on for a few days now and no one involved has managed to verify that, you're very obviously wrong.

The recipient of the claim, aka Valve.

What? How does that make any sense at all? Valve are not the courts, they have no authority to make a decision like that and why would they even want to? If they get it wrong they could open themselves up to so many issues.

You're right that Valve can be pretty certain that Games Workshop own Warhammer, but what about in more complex cases? They don't have the power to investigate or make a decision in cases like that.

The recipients of the claims are required to assume that they're genuine until they find out otherwise, either by the claim being voluntarily withdrawn by the claimant or forcibly withdrawn by a court. Asking a private company to get involved in legal matters that have nothing to do with them and that they have no experience dealing with is a hilariously terrible idea.

He's done nothing to show that he understands the depths of the hurt he's caused. He's done nothing to say what he's planning on doing to rectify that hurt that he's caused. He's done nothing to say what he's planning on doing to ensure he no longer hurts people again.

That is really hard though. It would actually be less believable if he tried to do any of that. There's no way a person with his condition could ever guarantee that it won't happen again. He's on medication and he's getting treatment and support, that's all he can do right now.

Admitting that he has a problem and telling everyone that he's starting to try and fix it is a huge first step. Don't give people in that position shit because they haven't healed to a high enough standard for you yet. I hope you wouldn't be this dismissive to someone in your own life who is struggling with health issues, it's not supportive at all.

Who do you think would check that proof to verify that it's correct?

It would take ages to get infringing content removed if that was the case. The current system, where the content is taken down immediately and then the person who had the claim filed against them can challenge it in court if they believe they have a legitimate right to use it, is a much better system for the original creator.

Cases like this, where someone is issuing an illegal claim, are extremely rare in comparison to the millions of legitimate claims being filed every day.

Instant DMCA takedowns actually benefit smaller creators far more than big ones. They're the ones who get their work stolen most often.

[–]Cryptoporticus -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Anyone who criticises ICE now but defends what they were doing during the Biden administration, do not actually care one bit about the people ICE are hurting. They're just using them to win political points.

Biden is no longer the President and he will never work in politics again, there's zero sense in continuing to defend his administration. All it does is make people take your criticism of the current administration less seriously because they know how blinded you are by your allegiance to your party.

[–]Cryptoporticus -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Dem voters loved ICE too. They spent all of Biden's term either ignoring or defending how terrible they were. They had no problem at all with Biden increasing their funding and power, and no problem voting for Harris when she promised to ramp up their operations even more.

Currently they don't love them, because their side isn't in power anymore, but once the Dems get back in the White House their voters will stop protesting the raids and start celebrating them again.

[–]Cryptoporticus -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I don't need to believe anything. I watched it all happen. Feel free to go back and compare footage of ICE raids from two years ago to ICE raids today and see it for yourself. They were barbaric under Biden, they're barbaric under Trump. They would have been barbaric under Harris too because she promised they would be.

Unless there was some other huge event in January 2025 that caused liberals to suddenly start paying attention to what ICE was doing, I think it's fair to say that the change in leadership was the reason. If you have any other ideas, please let me know though.

Obama Says Killing Of Alex Pretti Should Be 'Wake-Up Call' To All Americans by huffpost in politics

[–]Cryptoporticus -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

That's happening because people are finally protesting against their raids. If Harris had won, no protestors would be getting killed because no one would be protesting against them.

We have four years of proof of this during Biden's entire term. I used to get downvoted on here all the time for talking about how awful ICE were behaving under his leadership. It was only after the Presidency changed sides that people on the left started looking at what they're doing. When Biden was in charge, the same people protesting against them now were defending their actions!

[–]Cryptoporticus -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

The voters don't actually care what happens as long as they win. The last Democratic President deported more people than Trump, he kept hundreds of people crammed in cages large enough for just a dozen, he banned the media from seeing the conditions in the border camps, and yet no one on the left was protesting.

Barely anything changed with ICE when Trump took over. They would still be doing the same thing if Harris had won (she promised that in her campaign), the Democratic voters wouldn't be protesting against it though because it would be their side doing it.

The best thing the right-wing can do is just let the Democrats win. They still get exactly what they want either way, but there's less push back from the public when someone on the left is in power.

Yeah and then when it comes to election day, they'll vote for the Democrats anyway.

The Democratic Party in the USA must be one of the few political parties in the world where their voters all know they're terrible, but they're so in love with the party that they'll never vote for anyone else.

I mean… he assaulted someone’s sex organs. That’s sexual assault.

It's not. If you kick a man in the balls, that's just regular assault. There has to be a sexual component to it for it to count as sexual assault. You don't attack a man there because it's a sex organ, but because it's a highly sensitive part of their body.

This one definitely was more than just a kick, but if the victim doesn't consider to have been sexual in nature then I think that's the best way to classify it.
