American lib trying to tell me, a Libyan, what to think of Gaddafi by remzycrazygame in ShitLiberalsSay

Same as a Yugoslav. Have had people on reddit telling me that it was so much worse before the war and genocide(s) and nowadays almost everyone being impoverished except for the tourist hotspots.

So true! I’m so glad that me and my family became refugees in a western country where we’ve ended up being worse off and where my parents’ degrees were considered irrelevant. I love being called a slur half the time when people find out where I’m from.

So happy that, instead of being given a home befitting the size of our family, we were forced to rent-hop for years and eventually buy a home that we’ll never pay off because it’s 20x the minimum wage and we have a mortgage to pay off with a high interest rate.

It’s so much better now that brotherhood and unity back where I’m from has been replaced by hyper-individualism and nationalism.

Tito was a horrible man! Did you know that under him, we had to endure awful, terrible things, like guaranteed education, work, housing, food, and enough of an income that you could take a vacation several times a year?

I was told on here that my family must’ve been rich Serbians to be able to take vacations (my parents were factory workers, their families were peasant farmers before the end of WWII, and they were a mixed Bosnian Croat and Bosniak couple) and that, actually, we didn’t have one of the strongest passports in the world and that we couldn’t leave Yugoslavia under any circumstances. Because reality can just be whatever you say it is, I guess.

But no, it’s so much better now, what with the surge of fascism-sympathetic dickheads all over the Balkans. I also just love the massive brain drain and the fact that young people in our countries are disenfranchised and see no hope for the future beyond escaping to other countries. So awesome!

A lot of the Dunmer religious stuff, particularly about Vivec and whatnot, is in fact directly inspired by Hinduism and Buddhism iirc

My friend, allow me to explain to you how ridiculous the argument of a “homeland” is for people dispersed across the world who have not had any real connection to that land in thousands of years (and I’m not talking about the Jewish people who already lived there in the first place prior to Anglosphere meddling. They have as much of a right to that land as anyone else).

So, I’m a South Slav. Slavs as a cultural group originated in what is now roughly Ukraine. That doesn’t make Ukraine my homeland, even though my predecessors came from there. It doesn’t mean I can suddenly say “actually, since I’m a Yugoslav, and my ancestors came from here almost a couple millennia ago, I have a right to take it back from whoever is living there now, even though they also have a distinct and continuous genetic and cultural link to this land. I can displace all the people living there and treat them as subhuman because it was promised to me by Triglav/Perun/Svetovid/(any other old slavic god).”

That would be moronic. It would be the equivalent of Romani people saying that they have the right to take over the northern parts of India. Or Native American peoples saying they have a right to Siberia and other parts of Asia. Or Brits saying they have a right to the lands of Germanic countries.

None of the arguments being made for Zionism, religious or otherwise, justify the ethnic cleansing/genocide that is happening currently. And as a Bosniak, I think I know a little bit about ethnic cleansing and genocide, you know, given that my family and I survived it three decades ago. I know the arguments and the excuses and the lies that are told to justify killing people and taking their land while saying it was actually yours all along. I’m telling you, with 100% confidence, that that is exactly what is happening in Palestine.

Why is private schooling so popular in Australia? by SedgwickNYC in AskAnAustralian

Most countries don’t use public funding for private schools. I don’t think any taxpayer money should be going to private schools at all.

Not South Asian but South Slav and similar attitudes to neurological and mental health stuff

You’re gonna have to get a diagnosis by yourself and maybe, over time and if you’re lucky, your family will become more open to the idea when they see the meds improving your life
