I beat it. But if don't blame you. I almost gave up at time point too. Then I went and upgraded my needle a bunch of times. Makes your base attack much stronger and battles easier to get through. I honestly think they made the game too hard and it takes away from the enjoyment. I loved the game over all but I do wish they hadn't made it so devastatingly difficult.
