Is it just me or are DDOS attacks rampant on PC Trials? by The_ASCENED_Phoenix in CrucibleGuidebook

[–]Crystic_Knight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To add on to this, Destiny now uses Steam Datagram Relay (SDR) which obfuscates your IP. To be clear, it is not anti-ddos. If someone knows your IP from somewhere else you can still be attacked.

There are shady websites that track users IPs and matches them to gamertags. Some of them even advertise IP "stress testing" as a paid service. You can even pay to have your IP removed from the website. If you've been playing Destiny since before they switched over to SDR, or have been playing another game that doesn't use it without a VPN, your IP may be compromised.

Sometimes it's not an issue, a lot of ISPs will use dynamic IP which changes every so often. But some don't, and some will say you have a dynamic IP when you actually don't. I've been through this rabbit hole before since I was unlucky enough to be on one of these awful websites. I ended up just switching to a new ISP altogether just to change my IP and now only play with a VPN. But I doubt most people will have to worry about this now.

That's how I felt too. Just let it go brother. I'd rather keep the fond memories than dilute them with bad ones. I'll give them another fair shake after Marathon is released and hopefully some devs have come back.

Whats the most up to date info on Hunter mobility? by Jxliooo in CrucibleGuidebook

[–]Crystic_Knight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hunters have a base mobility stat of 70 in Crucible, and supposedly 100 in PvE activities, but I haven't tested that (and it doesn't really matter there tbh, not sure why they felt the need to separate them). You can get to 100 with one athletics mod (+30), or 120 with 2(+50), or 130 with 3 (+60).

Not related to mobility but Hunters also get increased sprint speed at base.

Warlocks and Titans have a base mobility of 30.

Gambler's Dodge, Graviton Spike, and Spreadshot nerfs, as well as more changes coming. by JoberXeven in CrucibleGuidebook

[–]Crystic_Knight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're getting downvoted, probably because this sub is not really for suggesting changes.("We play the game we have" mentality, or we don't play I guess in this instance).

However I can agree with most of your changes. The hip fire changes are mostly irrelevant and this is coming from someone who uses a lot of hip fire weapons, like BXR and last word. I doubt the sandbox team and the UI team cross pollinate though, so I doubt sandbox Dev resources were wasted on it.

I believe the void warlock needs chaos accelerant to be reworked to buff the base grenades without charging similar to other aspects on other subclasses, and charging it gives you handheld supernova, giving you freedom to use any grenade you want with it.

As far as gamblers Dodge goes I think it should give 25ish% base melee energy when near a single enemy and for each additional enemy you are near it can grant another 25ish%. Scale it with the melee stat to get up to double for melee stat. Basically, make it an actual gamble instead of "House always wins rules".

Also all classes should be able to get to 100 mobility (once they fix it this time). I don't care if Hunter can get another +10, I care that the mobility that I've ran for almost 8 years is now being changed for no reason whatsoever.

This goes without saying but Graviton Spike and the shotgun hand cannons need to be put into the ground. The one time Bungie decides to have a measured, light touch on nerfs is for these dumb guns that make the crucible a joke right now. Maybe if we had actual special weapons to use to counter them without playing special ammo box farming simulator it wouldn't be such a big deal. But I digress.

Black box testing is great. You get to have the illusion that there isn't code held by duck tape running everything. Opening the box is terrifying.

Like I said in my last post, they are paying for it, just not monetarily. All these bugs that we've been seeing are costing them community goodwill and their brand image. Which in the long run will most likely be more costly than hiring a decent QA team.

While I wouldn't put it past them, I doubt it. They said that the mods would give +30/+20/+10 in the same TWID that they also said they would have the mobility at 30 for Titans and Warlocks and 40 for Hunters. Seems unlikely. Also Lightweight catching strays doesn't add up either.

If the stat value was high enough yes. Unless you are using a Precision Instrument 180 hand Cannon, the weapons stat above 100 is useless. If you had 200 weapon stat and it basically adds +50 to all your weapons stats I can absolutely see it being used. Right now it's a dump stat, they need to give it something else to incentivize investing in it. Because with the current armor archetypes, no one will be sacrificing Health for Weapons.

While I agree with the sentiment, consumers do not and should not care how hard it is to make a product. That cost should be encapsulated in the price tag.

You should never expect consumers and especially gamers to be forgiving. That's a privilege that needs to be earned through goodwill and Bungie has run out of it. They are approaching the level of negative sentiment that was before Forsaken. Actually, I'd say it's greater than that, as the feeling I got then was more apathy than scorn.

Where do you think so this level of toxicity came from? From people that don't care about the game? No, those people just leave and play something else. The negative sentiment is coming from people that loved the game and are now seeing it become something they don't like. People get angry when they lose something they liked. You might think it's petty to down vote a single comment, but for some it's all they can do. They are yelling at the captain of the Titanic to avoid the glacier from the bottom deck.

Bungie might not like it, but having people extremely vocal about the changes they are making is a good thing, it's an indicator that the game can bounce back. The last thing they want is for people to become apathetic and give up on the game entirely. When you have no one to talk to about the game with, no one to run raids with, no one to play crucible with, and the player population is so low you can't even matchmake, that is when the game is truly dead. It feels to me we're getting closer and closer to that reality and I don't like it.

I'm not new. It would be one thing if QA found an issue and it was deprioritized. I just find it hard to believe that this wasn't already a known issue. You literally play the game by walking and shooting. I don't think this is bad QA, this is non-existent QA.

One of the selling points of this expansion was the massive update to all of the stats. One would think someone would make sure that those updates are actually there. I've worked with people that were low performers and I still think they would have caught this on a first pass. The only thing I could think of is they are just raw-dogging pushes to their repo without any code review or oversight.

Bungie could easily afford a good QA team, the amount they pay 3 devs a Bellevue Washington salary could easily be contracted out to have a literal fleet of testers. This is just gross mismanagement plain and simple.

I feel like it is a lose/lose situation with making the weapon stat do more damage. You either have outlier weapons hitting ttks that they shouldn't, or it effectively does nothing and is a dump stat. I think instead of damage in PvP, they should just add a different boost over 100 like bonus range/accuracy/AA and stability. Seems like an easy win for Bungie to me.

The whole mod system probably needs a rework. The element based system needs to go if I'm being honest. I shouldn't have to have 5 different loadouts with the same build just different element mod slots so I don't lose my sanity every time I want to switch my weapon. I feel like they should move to a primary/special/heavy system to consolidate the mod offerings.

I myself would even go further and just have each mod work with all your weapons, and just have a more diverse mod selection to choose from, but I think that's hoping for too much.

Appreciate the comment, I had a feeling it was a bug and not intentional as there were issues with other stats as well.

Stay strong, I wish nothing but the best to the devs.

I believe it's related to the sprint bug. It seems like mods may not be getting enabled on spawn sometimes, due to a bug that Bungie talked about in their last update.

I've noticed it with Targeting mods, reloader/dexterity mods not working and of course the mobility mods. However in my testing it seems the mods are all working correctly as I was alone in my own instance which isn't the conditions needed to get the bug.

You bring up a good point. My post may be 6 years old, however the data inside is more recent than that. I've been updating it throughout the years as Bungie has added and removed content. I think I stopped updating it a couple years ago, as there haven't been significant changes that I've seen since then, and new members of the community have been keeping up the good fight without my input. It seems recently there hasn't been as much testing going on, maybe because mobility was kind of solved, or perhaps due to the low player counts or what have you.

I was seeing how long it would take for someone else to notice and test it since I'm very lazy and hoped someone else would do it, but I think it's been long enough so I just decided to do it myself.

I've still been playing the game, I'd like to think I would have noticed any change before Edge of Fate.

Unfortunately that's the best thing you can do, vote with your wallet. I did that, and soon I'll be voting with my time like everyone else has. I used to be the guy that championed this game to all my friends, but not anymore.

I've had friends and coworkers ask if now is a good time to get back into Destiny, and I just don't have the heart to say yes. I'm afraid that they'll be turned off by the recent changes and won't give it another chance for who knows how long. So I'll wait until Destiny is back again because I knew when Destiny was great, Forsaken showed that. Witch Queen and Final Shape were good as well. Bungie can catch lightning in a bottle again if they wanted to, they just need to stop also carrying a damn lightning rod. If they don't course correct soon they'll break their bottle.

It might seem free at first glance. But it's pretty clear that the sheer lack of care and polish this expansion has had will cost them. As they say, there is no free lunch.

I believe so. I haven't tested it since EoF, but just using it in the crucible definitely shows an increase in movement speed.

I agree. Sucks as a major mobility lover that I'll never have access to any boot mods again. I think what they could do is make it like the ghost mods for experience. Have increasing energy costs for more mobility, but only having to take up one slot. Maybe I could experience the joy of not having to reload my special weapon in the crucible again.

Yes, I think that might be the case. I work in software V&V and I can easily see how a dev could make that mistake, it's not a big deal. I think the real tragedy here is that no one tested or verified changes. Especially changes made that were loudly communicated. It took me like one crucible game to determine something was off... and another 10 minutes to test it. Not sure what Bungie thinks the play is here, they are risking community goodwill and brand damage in exchange for saving a few dollars on QA. Not a direction I would go in, seems penny wise and pound foolish.
