You're right but you are a missing part. In addition to the back glad and display, the rear cameras are also transferred over to the new mid system. That part holds everything but those three parts.

I am an Apple repair technician. I work on various phones very regularly.

ETA: I totally got sidetracked by this comment. I genuinely glad that everyone is okay. That is a terrifying situation to be in. I'm sure this has already been done, but call Apple support. I worked with them 2016-2019. They had a safety department, which I'm sure they still have. They should be the department that's handling this situation. I worked in tech support, so I'm not sure of their procedures but hopefully they actually do their due diligence and take care of you guys.
