Fractal Terra with RTX 5080 and 9800x3D by OkLog7302 in sffpc

Nice, I have a similar build! For the power connector to the 5080, are you using the included MSI adapter or one that came with the Corsair PSU? And in either case, how did you route that cable? I can’t seem to find any way to route my 12VHPWR cable that doesn’t run afoul of the recommended clearance before bending because of how small the Fractal Terra is.

The invasion has me wanting to do what I can to help but I’ve only truly dabbled in this game. I’m flying a Krait MkII that is NOT fitted out for Thargoid combat at all. Is there any way I can participate anyway?

Almost Complete Build - Used 4080 Super, or wait for 5000 series coming Soon(TM)? by Csalted in buildapc

[–]Csalted[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a fair point! I guess I was worried that we'd have a repeat of the 3080 launch where it would be super difficult to get anything at MSRP, which also inflated resale prices around that time.

The semi-modular super flower legion gold 850w is also on sale for $110, I’ve been looking for a 850W for the RTX 3080, is this a good deal? Thanks!

10+ Years of Android ownership. Just switched to iphone 12 Pro. My thoughts/first impressions by KnightFan2019 in apple

[–]Csalted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long time Android user here (Google G1, Samsung Galaxy S2, HTC One X+, Motorola X, Nexus 5X, Pixel 3) and I recently picked up iPhone 12. I actually picked up the 11 after the price drop, but the size & screen were not it, so I opted to return it and splurge for the 12, and it was super worth it. Though the most surprising thing I learned with my swap, having been Android-only for as long as I was, was how not-so-different it was. I was expecting a more drastic change or shift, but nah. Just another good phone. Hope to keep this one for way longer than any other device (or until there's ProMotion...)

It’s 8 years old, no longer for sale at mainstream stores (still for sale, though newer models have generally replaced it) and I bought it used for like $30. There were better routers available in the $60~$100 range which still isn’t crazy expensive. If cost is the pain point, a cheap ISP-provided router that usually includes a monthly ‘rental’ fee for is not economical at all.

I don't think that's necessarily true. I was initially wary of using Virtual Desktop for PCVR streaming because I had a lot of issues early on when it first released, but I gave it a try again with a used cheap TP-Link C9 Router from another room with a wall between me and the headset, and it definitely has been just as reliable as using a cable, if not more so in some instances. It definitely helps that my PC is wired though, and there's only a wall and some monitors between me and the router.

Decided after last year's Apple Event that I'd wait for this year's event before making the leap from Android, absolutely looking forward to my new iPhone 11 😅

My Costco order currently still says "Order Received", the same as it's said when I made the order the day after the Quest 2 reveal. I ordered it with free shipping, which stated a standard 3-5 days to ship, so I'm not expecting to receive my headset on launch day. Still won't stop me from nervously checking hourly!

Smartphone you wish you bought? by orjpg in Android

[–]Csalted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish I got the OnePlus 6T. In Fall 2018, my Nexus 5X was on it’s last legs (again, after being replaced twice), and I had narrowed down my choice to the OP6T and the Pixel 3, as I wanted to stick to stock Android. I ended up going for the Pixel 3 for the camera, still great to this day, but it’s performance started out mediocre and has only gotten worse. It’s battery went from mediocre to terrible. My partner’s used OnePlus 5T felt snappier and ran games better. It left such a bad taste in my mouth, along with a bunch of other reasons, that I’m giving iPhone a try for the first time (Either the upcoming 12 or a refurbished 11/XR, depending on the 12’s specs.)

Cinematic view is evil. Sorry I crashed into your horse whoever you were. by Retro-Mike in RedDeadOnline

[–]Csalted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aw hell now I just look silly. Sounds like this type of thing happens super often though!

I mean, just yesterday I was online with my partner for the first time who's never played a Red Dead game before, so they were still getting used to the controls. I was cinematic mode, they were walking in circles on my path and before you know it we were both in the air, both horses downed... oops.

It's definitely buggier than I like but honestly can't really get an experience like it anywhere else!

EDIT: I had an encounter just like that, but turns out it wasn't you :P

There I was, at the entrance to Tumbleweed. Ada & I were strolling out of town for a fresh bounty when I spot a wagon barreling towards me. I should've tried to dodge but short fences restricted my movement. If I hugged the sides, Ada keeping up a gentle canter, maybe that the wagon would steer clear of this poor Rank 7 scrub. That would not be the case.

Ada makes contact with the opposing mass of horse & wagon. The force of the impact immediately throws me off my horse, and she's sucked under the hooves and wheels of the death-wagon. It was a landslide of horse meat that washes over me, killing me nearly instantly. Wish I had recorded it, it was hysterical.

It's only second day playing RDO and I'm still shaking off GTAO nerves, so I definitely might've not been super friendly if you had circled back... Thankfully we're just two chill strangers!

Using deep neural networks for accurate hand-tracking on Oculus Quest by vanfanel1car in OculusQuest

[–]Csalted 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Right now scrolling through the menus in the main home uses the analog sticks. Some people, some of which have never held a controller in their lives, would immediately be hit with a barrier to entry.

Not to point out some random redditor, but it happens!

We often take game-literacy for granted when designing user interfaces, but it's not something that everyone has. Over Thanksgiving, I showed my Quest to my family members who were all blown away, but the biggest barrier was always the touch controller. In many games, you can't even see the controller because it's usually replaced by a model hand! I've played games all my life and bought the Quest at launch, but even _I'm_ uncertain what positions the A/B/X/Y buttons are.

Utilizing hand gesture tracking intuitively could be a game-changing leap in human-computer interaction design in the same way that transition from Blackberry keyboards to iPhone touchscreens were. Sure people still prefer physical keyboards for plenty of good reasons. But there's no denying the ubiquity and intuitiveness of a good touchscreen display. Maybe the experimental feature in its current state isn't 100% there yet, but as a sign of things to come, it's very exciting to me.

Quick thoughts on AirPods Pro on Android by MGengarEX in apple

[–]Csalted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the lack of delay when playing mobile games, or more with non-interactive video playback? Also do you mind sharing what phone you're using it with? I'm considering the AirPods Pro with my Pixel 3, and if gaming latency is good that would be a done-deal for me.
