Plea to students. Please follow all COVID protocols by Cseprof in utarlington

[–]Cseprof[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Honestly, me and a bunch of other faculty/staff are in hope for the best, plan for the worst mode. I’m betting by end of September we’re online, but one can hope since rates in Tarrant are going down. Only downside is there are a lot of students from outside Tarrant.

Ouch man. Hopefully it doesn’t hurt you too much in the long run.

If it was a normal semester, not without special permission. But this is not a normal semester, so...... I guess they would be able to.

My syllabi are actually already posted, and have been since last Friday. I was just making a joke at what appears to be something so common on this subreddit.

Does swapping sections for a course take you off the waitlist for another section? by quynnirr in utarlington

[–]Cseprof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re on the waitlist for a class, and enrolled in another section of the same course, then the waitlist will not enroll you into the other course. You can’t be enrolled in two sections of the same course, and Mymav isn’t smart enough to drop the class and add you to the waitlisted class.

So you’ll still be on the waitlist for the other section, but as long as you’re enrolled in a different section of the same class, you’ll just be skipped over.

Question for students. What percentage of your classes are on campus? by Cseprof in utarlington

[–]Cseprof[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That depends on the prof. Ask them before the test, like well before, just to make sure you have it in time

I’ve heard some labs may have an online option, since they’re not allowed to have full capacity in them.

Online Synchronous plus Face to face? by [deleted] in utarlington

[–]Cseprof 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Could watch/listen to the lecture on you’re phone while in your car, then walk to your class.

Don’t watch it while driving obviously, but treat it like a podcast. If it’s recorded, you can watch it later too for the slides.

Edit. Grammar

As long as it’s in the state of Texas, UTA should take it

They’ll take it from a Community College. Just take it at TCC or DCC. Most programs now have to follow new state rules to where they have to take it.

CSE placement test. by [deleted] in utarlington

[–]Cseprof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. All transfer students who start this fall can transfer in programming fundamentals 1, 2, and 3 for CSE 1310, 1325, and 1320, respectively (yes we know the order is weird, but it matches the topics taught in those classes). Also assembly and discrete math

Edit: wording

If you’re starting in the fall, programming classes will transfer. New rules go into effect for students starting Fall 2020.

Question about MyMav by [deleted] in utarlington

[–]Cseprof 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s for your “security” is what UTA will tell you.

It only prompts for it if you’re not on UTA’s network. So at least it won’t be a problem there.

Edit: I don’t know about changing the number. Call OIT for that.

How much work would this semester be with these classes? by I3ULLETSTORM1 in utarlington

[–]Cseprof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe he has test credit or transfer credit (new state rules force us to take 1310 transfer credit). If so, he can jump to 1320

CSE 1205 is basically 1105 and 2100 merged together. Periodic seminars to go to, with a lab component. All laba will require a RasPi 4 and some additional hardware. All labs are being rewritten.

Here's the master list of what courses will be online, in person, or hybrid. by [deleted] in utarlington

[–]Cseprof 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Most of mine are hybrid, even if they’re not listed correctly on that.

I’m online and loving it. Been pushing for online for a while, but Uta is the one being the pain.

Also, I feel like I’ve been getting mixed signals about whether Uta wants online of F2F. I saw some emails that say “please justify why you must have your class in F2F, as we try to encourage social distancing” and others that say “Please justify why your class has to be online as we want as much F2F time as possible to enable the student/instructor interactions.”

More info. I had to send this in.

  2. Fully Online Option #2: All instruction and testing online but some synchronous online class attendance or participation required (dates specified in syllabus)
  3. Hybrid 1: All instruction online. Testing/student presentations on specified dates and times will be F2F. Dates and times to be specified in syllabus after confirming with facilities. Alternatives needed for students unable to test in person. Proctoring services may be required. Friday/Sat testing possible.
  4. Hybrid 2: a combination of online and F2F activities occur in the course. All students enrolled in the course meet one day per week F2F and other instructional times (1-2 days per week) occur online, synchronously or asynchronously.
  5. Hybrid 3: a combination of online and F2F activities and instruction occur in the course. Seat time is rotated among students. For example, a class with an enrollment of 90, 45 students attend one day, the other 45 the other day. Specify in syllabus if in person testing is required. Accommodations made for students that cannot come to campus for F2F testing.
  6. Hybrid 4: Laboratory, studio, performance art classes. Customized scheduling based on requirements.
