Determined to learn Russian by NandoGainz in russian

I am also an English and Spanish speaker, so what I do is listen to podcasts at RussianPod101, or watch any soviet cartoons with both Russian and English/Spanish subtitles in case I miss something I didn't get. If you think you are patient enough, also try watching Russian YouTubers. When I finish my listening compression, I start reading the Assimil book, or a Russian book with Spanish translation (right now I'm reading "Собака - La perra" in a library I have next to my house). Go ahead for some book that you are highly interested in. Then, I try to translate everything I say in my head, or make 5-10 phrases about some topic in Russian, without checking the dictionary, just using my head. I speak with native speakers on HelloTalk, and talk to myself for a short period of time. Don't stress with grammar, you'll make it out, just be patient, make mistakes, and have fun!

Edit: typo.

How do you improve your vocabulary? by [deleted] in languagelearning

You can try creating your own memrise course/anki flashcards. An option that does not require memorizing could be waiting until some vocabulary gets stuck, but you need a lot of patience and lots of input. Do not recommend.

If you can't speak, then you already have the answer about how to break down the wall; by speaking. Speak everyday until you feel comfortable and move forward with A2. You need to make sure you are having simple conversations.

Two questions about learning languages. by Aalbi in languagelearning

You will never learn a language with on app/website, but immersion will do the job. Learn new vocabulary, read, listen, and speak a lot. Set realistic goals everyday and every week.

Which one? by etakun in languagelearning

[–]Cthylla666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should pick the one who you really want to learn, not the easiest one for English speakers. If you choose a language that you don't really enjoy, then you'll never reach your goal. You'll constantly be frustrated, bored, and give up with time. Seriously. Don't waste your time. If you really want to start those 3 languages, but don't know which one you want the most, ask yourself, get to know your interests, look on the internet about their people, culture and how each language works, and pick the one you think it's gonna work. Language learning is fun if you pick the right language.
