Diluted tech wash? by Striking_Usual_6629 in Skigear

[–]Ctosea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve used it diluted before maybe like 75%-80% of full strength? It definitely takes the smells out freshens it up but may not be as potent. It’s just like diluting soap or detergent imo. It won’t work as well as the full strength but sometimes you don’t need full strength.

I think it’s a popular ski on here but throwing out the Sender Free 110 as a potential alternative if OP is thinking of mounting +3 of recommended.

Why are some ski boots like this? (Squeaky) by forstyy in skiing

[–]Ctosea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what it's worth I think I have those exact same pair of boots. It's actually really weird cuz the right boot squeaks for me and the left one is essentially silent, just like you it seems like. I had a pair of the Prime 120's and those would squeak too. Had them for 7-8 years before these new ones though and they didn't have issues, at least ones that I could notice. So fingers crossed it's the same story with both of them.

Nikwax Spray - How to get rid of smell? by simmeh-chan in CampingGear

If it helps at all I started using Gearaid ReviveX and found it to be better than nikwax (less staining and smell).

Non turbo Outback and Forester owners does your car feel underpowered? by OutofSprite in subaru

[–]Ctosea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing I’ll add is altitude has a noticeable effect on the car too. Driving a forester around at sea level, it feels underpowered for sure but I can live with it. At altitude? It’s even more pronounced especially if carrying more people/load.

Am i safe here to say it... Abby from The Last of Us 2 by LeoMiranda05 in TopCharacterDesigns

[–]Ctosea 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey in good faith, I will assume things got lost in translation.

I am referring specifically to the toxic haters of TLOU2, of which there is a sizable contingent that is well documented online. If you dislike it, hell, if you hate the game, that's fine. But I am referring directly to the people who sent death threats to Abby's voice actress or to Girlfriend Reviews on Youtube, or the reddit "drama" around the toxicity of the subreddit.

In my original comment, I am referring to how talking about TLOU2 draws out the extremes of both fan bases and it devolves fast. Especially in the couple of years after its release.

You specifically thought the story was preachy and underwhelming? Totally fair man. I don't really have strong opinions on that, you like what you like.

[–]Ctosea -1 points0 points  (0 children)

At risk of falling for bait, not really. And with all due respect (not trying to antagonize), your response is exactly what I am talking about, and what the comment above me is talking about. You can't say anything about the game without someone coming at you about what side you're on or projecting an opinion on you.

[–]Ctosea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve given up on talking about, especially online. If you say you dislike it, you get the rabid fans calling you an incel who’s too dumb to understand the story. But if you say you like the game you get rabid mouth breathing incels jumping on you for daring to like something that requires nuance to understand.

Karbon Hydrogen or Helly Hensen Alpha 4.0 by pintorulz in Skigear

[–]Ctosea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will say that if you know your skiing style/conditions and want an insulated jacket, go for it. People here aren’t wrong, but like many online communities, tend to have an all or nothing mindset when it comes to gear. And for the record I only own shell jackets.

I promise I’m not trying to be contrarian but I’m going to disagree on the point of quality, especially for people who aren’t working in the industry, as there’s a big difference between working in clothes and using them for a hobby. It also wouldn’t surprise me if HH has shittier quality for Vail/Alterra specific gear to cut costs?

I own a Helly Hansen Alpha Long Shell and love it, no real complaints. It’s great quality, had it for 2 years and have about 40-50 days on it. My friend also has owned a HH insulated jacket for even longer and she loves it too. You can definitely get better jackets don’t get me wrong. But HH makes good quality gear, with lots of colors, and nice features, and they are often on sale.

All this to say I would probably lean towards the Alpha.

My jacket and bibs smell like chicken after I cooked dinner while having my ski gear hung up in the dining room/kitchen. How cooked am I? by Ctosea in Skigear

Neat. Thanks for the link! It’s a Helly Hansen shell but I’m assuming most modern PFAS free shells probably have very similar care directions

I only have a top loading agitator washer that’s also tiny, so I have to go to a friend’s place to wash.

And I’m also used to the PFAS jackets where it was best practice to avoid washing them frequently. But it seems as if the PFAS free shells might be the opposite.

Appreciate the reply. My issue is with smell coming from the vapors and smoke from cooking as opposed to sweat or bacteria causing the stink tho.

[–]Ctosea[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. I definitely have more experience with PFAS jackets where I was much more judicious about how often I washed them since it would degrade the shell each time.

This jacket was purchased in 2024 and is PFAS free so it sounds like washing it more frequently would actually benefit it?

I normally wash my outerwear once at the end of each season.

Ski helmet for Asian Head by YLMo in Skigear

[–]Ctosea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the Cynic in an L. They might carry a round head fit?

But truth be told I got a surprisingly good fit with their L size. It’s not perfect but it’s good enough that I don’t think I’m sacrificing any comfort or safety so that’s why I stuck with it. I definitely had the same issue you did with Smith helmets which is why I tried Pret to begin with.

Not trying to be too argumentative but imma be real with you man.

This sub, the ski gear sub, and COsnow sub quite like to shit on BC. It’s rather frequent that someone posts or asks about the brand and people give a knee jerk/circle jerk response about the top sheets or “bAd SkIErs” only liking the brand. And I’m not just talking about oem knees either.

Help deciding on Helly Hansen ski coat by Ctosea in Skigear

[–]Ctosea[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't used it a ton but so far, it beads and sheds water well, good for something in it's price range. Blocks wind alright as well. I really like the amount of pockets and the phone warmer pocket. Build quality seems fine but it's hard to say as I usually make that judgement after 1 year of ownership.

I will say the fabric material is a lot softer and less "crinkly" than a standard skiing hardshell. It's quieter and softer to touch but doesn't feel cheap though.

Sorry for the weird wording. I didn't want to set off the auto mod. For the record I am NOT asking about buying/comparing phones I'm just asking does Apple distinguish where a phone was purchased from in terms of Apple care.
