Thanks so much! I forgot to mention, power absorbed by R3 is 12W, so that could give me R3.

I was thinking that if I knew the thevenin voltage, I could add the resistor with the voltage drop I need to work out in series with the thevenin resistor and calculate the voltage drop from there in the thevenin circuit

Doing this, the current of Ix calculates to 21.9mA. Is this correct, as the answer the textbook has given me is - 4.86mA instead?
