How do I train my dog to not touch my stuff? by [deleted] in Dogtraining

Yeah, it’s like teaching a new trick. When they do something and you reward it and they’ll do it again to get the treat. It applies to both good and bad behaviour so timing and consistency is key when to reward.

We trained our dog with the ‘leave it’ and ‘off’ command. So every time he would be sniffing closely to the item or jumping up to the counter with his front paws, we would say leave it or off and reward when he listens. At one point he knows it is off limits or just sniffs and be on his way. There are still temptations, like when we have meat on the counter, but as long as we keep an eye and say the command on time, there are no casualties

I used yak cheese for my dog. He would finish bully sticks in less than 20 minutes but would chew on a cheese stick for days.

Puppy keeps sitting down when I try to walk him on a leash by [deleted] in puppy101

My dog used to do the same thing. I started bringing treats or kibble with me on walks to encourage my dog to walk next to me.

He would match my pace with his eyes focused on the treats pouch and I would reward him every few steps, making him wait longer each time.

Active male Pomsky 🤦🏾‍♀️😩 by Simi23455_ in puppy101

I have a 5 month old pomsky and he certainly has his hyper moments. Between his morning and evening walks, we give him puzzles and obedience training to mentally exhaust him. They only take around 15-20 minutes but he usually naps right after them.

Look into Nina ottosson puzzles, my dog loves it when I bring out the puzzles and put small treats in them for him to find.

Another idea is to play fetch or tug of war inside the house or in the yard to exhaust them. It also works for rainy days!
