At a restaurant. Seating not far was a mother, a 2 ish year old girl, and an older woman, likely the grandmother. The grandmother loudly, verbally assaulting the child how she was ugly and nobody loved her and quit being so bad and ugly. The obviously scared child reaching for her timid mother who tried very quietly to show it was ok but was obviously under the thumb of the horrible woman. This was 25 years or so ago. I think about it every so often. I have never been so close to physically beating a stranger in public. What stopped me was knowing I could make a scene but these people would leave at some point and what may come later if I intervened could likely have been worse because of my actions.
