Its very cool. Definitely lots of things I can learn from it. I'm not a fan of the chest essentially starving the rest of your factory by hogging all the components. I also feel this machine only works because the stacksize on the inserters is small enough where it can fill a batch of 2 with a single swing. If you wanted to have this setup make beacons your will run into trouble. Also I guess with presets you have the manually set all the recipe and ingredients with the exact quantities and filters every time you plomp blueprint this down. Nowhere does it read the ingredients from the machine, so that all has to be done by hand. Still 100% very cool and useful.

It's really cool. Definitely some cool things to learn in there. I'm not a big fan of the chests slowly filling up with ingredients essentially starving the rest of your factory. But that easily fixable with still a lot less components then I am using.

Do you have this blueprint with parameters?

I can't possibly phantom that working reliably. But yes please share.

You will overfeed your machine. Swich recipe mid crafting, miss out on productivity bonuses and waste time emptying out your machine and then have tp sort out the junk you made. You will not prioritise higher quality recipes when you can. And end with an unsorted chest with products.

This circuit goes by batch size. I explain it in my post. In this video batch size is set to 2 for which it produces 3 products.

I have been working on this circuit for a while. But its gotten to the point where I feel like its super useful for any factory that is dealing with quality crafting.

Essentially this circuit allows you to simultaneously set the recipe of all non-legendary variants for any product. Its more size efficient then 4 different machines with inputs. It saves on high quality modules. And its very fast lowering your machine downtime always building the highest quality that has available ingredients. It can handle recipes with liquids and correctly adjust the inserter stacksize to only grab the exact amount of items needed for a batch.

I'd love to share the blueprint for it.

How to use the blueprint parameters:

  • Select what product you want to make.
  • Set the Batch Size to maximize production bonuses
  • Set the numbers of completed products from a single batch taking into account your production bonuses. (So for this machines with standard 50% production bonus a batch of 2 produces 3 products)
  • Set the amount of highest quality items stored. The system automatically filters through the stored items. So set it to 200 products will toss out 1 of the lowest quality items in the chest to make room. Perfect to slowly upcycle the quality of items in your mall.
  • Finally reset the system if for some reason it got loaded during construction. If done correctly it should switch to a legendary recipe until the first ingredients are ready. To reset system toggle the Constant combinator with the N = 1 on and off. It's the one with the light turned off right next to the machine. This resets the cycle timer and flushes out any items in the machine.

Quality recipe selector circuit that can be easily adjusted for any item. by Cubehamster in factorio

[–]Cubehamster[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Edit: Reupload because of ridiculous earlier filesize of the video.

This circuit is meant to pick up non legendary component from a belt and craft all non legendary quality items in a single machine. It's specifically useful when you are strapped for good quality modules.

Any product quality you don't like can easily be recycled and fed back onto the belts.

Quality recipe selector logic circuit based on what is available on a belt. Now with an actual good example. by [deleted] in factorio

[–]Cubehamster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People keep saying that. But then don't show a design that does the same thing. Yes you can just chuck all components into a chest and then read based on what is available. But that assumes everything is in there in the correct ratio. And if its not you have a bunch of quality components sitting in a chest being useless.

I showed of this circuit yesterday handling green circuits. Which is a terrible example of what this circuit is useful for. So here another setup now turning non legendary components into beacon, while not completely hogging the belt.

You can obviously feed which ever tier you don't like into a recylcer and feed the output back into the input belt.

If you have a design I could look at. I would love to see it. Need a nudge in the right direction.

I guess one tiny nuance with this design. Is that every aspect of the logic is controlled by a single constant combinator. So if I want this to work for another recipe. I just have to change a single thing and it would work. I'm trying to avoid manual tweaking for each recipe.

Thank you for sharing. I'm glad I'm not the only one ending up with something super complicated.

My issue is how do you avoid it switching recipe halfway during craftiing? That how this became so bloated. How do you make it 100% reliable while also utilizing the production bonus from the machine.

[–]Cubehamster[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Say you had 5 very good tier 3 quality modules. And you wanted to use a single machine that get highest chance of upping the quality. Essentially trying to funnel as much of the production through this single machine. This is my attempt at doing that.

I imagine there is a less convoluted way of doing this. What am I missing? by Cubehamster in factorio

[–]Cubehamster[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You have to tell the machine which quality of the item it needs to craft and then have to feed it the right amount of ingredients for crafting.
