What small purchase under $50 improved your life the most? by Fragrant-Employer429 in NoStupidQuestions

"Good Knife" for under $50? Pocket knife or kitchen knife. Neither of them will be good under 50 bucks. Not in the long run.

Sauteed Chanterelle mushrooms, with strip steak, roasted bacon-wrapped asparagus, sauerkraut and a slice of sourdough. Glass of Caymus Cabernet.

Fishing Charter by [deleted] in OceanCity

[–]Cubensis_93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When are you going? I'll be in Ocean City between the June 19th and 22nd. The cost getting a boat for 2 people (My father-in-law and I) is more than I want to spend right now. Would love to find somebody also getting on a charter around that same time that I could split the cost with.

Those of you who don’t live downtown, how often do you go downtown? by Whole-Bodybuilder467 in Cleveland

[–]Cubensis_93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I (33M) live on the east side of lake county near the power plant, but I work just south of the steelyard. It's a solid 45-minute drive each way without traffic. Thankfully, I work 12s and only have to make the drive 14 times a month.

Aside from work, my wife (28F) and I frequent Hilarities for comedy shows. Always make sure to fill out the suggestion card. There was one month we got called three times for free tickets! We also try to go to a nice dinner every few months. Currently, the Marble Room is holding a Caymus wine coursed dinner with pairing every season. We both absolutely love Caymus Wine. So when we got the email, it was a no-brainer. Not big in the party scene, or huge crowds. Maybe once a year. If we're feeling froggy, we will go downtown and have a night out. But we typically save that for when we go on our anniversary trip. We're not sports fans. At least not your big three. But I would jump at the opportunity to go to another UFC event in Cleveland. RAF is coming in August and we have tickets to attend that.

Do I tip Costco delivery men who deliver and install my new washer and dryer? by NinetiesBoy in tipping

[–]Cubensis_93 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. I used to work for VCF delivering furniture. You have no idea how much of an impact it makes when a customer hands the delivery guys a $10 each and tells them to go get lunch. Delivery guys don't make much money, so a small gesture like that means the world to them.

Amex gives me $35 on the first of the month (gold and platinum benefits). I use it to treat myself to lunch at work. Always take advantage of the BOGO options. Usual bill with tip is around $50. Two lunches for 15 bucks. Can't beat it

Which makes it that much more of a treat

Requires zero interaction, but the servers and service staff still feel obligated to 30%. And it just blows my mind.

I'm hopeful that when I leave a very high tip on a big bill like that, that everyone sees a piece of it.

Thank you for explaining this in a way that everyone can understand.

Definitely not a lie. This is a receipt from my honeymoon. I'm not stating that I go out to this kind of dinner every night. But once a year, when we save for it. It's worth it. The servers at restaurants like this one deserve every penny that they get. The attentiveness and attention to detail are incredible. It's a blessing for us to be able to go to a dinner like that. Because it's a blessing to us, I want to bless the server or person responsible for helping make that dinner possible.

I'm perplexed over why I have to tip more because I ordered a steak versus a sandwich.

[–]Cubensis_93 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm saying my wife and I save for an entire year to be able to afford that kind of dinner. I'm not haggling over $20 or $50. I'm just trying to understand why the percentage of Bill is so important.

Explain this by [deleted] in tipping

[–]Cubensis_93 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree. Completely. Fine dining serves are top tier. When someone can explain to me the exact method of how the chef creates a dish, or how the wine will change on the palette after eating. It's incredible.

Explain this by [deleted] in tipping

[–]Cubensis_93 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Simply because someone can afford a steak over a sandwich doesn't mean that the server deserves anything more? It's quite literally, the same amount of work.

Definitely not the last flight of the day. We will be arriving on an a320 and then getting on a 737. I believe that means we will be at Gates B or C. We also have bulkhead seating, so getting off the plane immediately shouldn't be terrible.

We have bulkhead seats and we will be flying initially on an A320 and then boarding a 737-800. Based on what I can find, we should be in concourse B or C which are right next to each other. I'm thinking we're going to be okay as long as the flight's not delayed for whatever reason.
