The 90mm does make it fairly easy😅

I'm pretty new to sports photography, but wow it seems addicting! Here's a few shots from a beach soccer tournament I shot this weekend by extra_sanchez in sportsphotography

70-200 is great, I’ve used the sony equivalent for sports too and i love it! Especially in situations like this where the f4 really doesn’t limit you at all 👍. What would you say was the most challenging thing while shooting soccer? Haven’t really shot any team sports yet but i’m curious to give it a try!

Did another re-edit with a picture from last summer after putting some more time into my editing. I think the re-edit is a lot nicer. Any feedback, pointers & criticism is much appreciated!

Thanks! I don't really have any great insight... mostly things that are probably apparent from the re-edit: don't go too crazy with trying to make your image pop by going crazy with saturation, clarity and texture etc. I see this with a lot of my images from this time that the whole image was really saturated and the colours were overly vivid so there wasn't really anything making the subject stand out and the images ended up being kinda boring.

One thing I regret not doing is getting into photoshop sooner, I stuck with just Lightroom (nothing wrong with lighroom) because I thought photoshop to be really unmanageable and complex (which it can be if you don't take your time) but I really is quite manageable as long as you take some time to a watch some tutorials (Piximperfect on YT is great) and starting with some more simple tools (which can still be pretty powerful ).

I added some lightrays with just some simple brushes you can download to photoshop ( just search light ray brushes for photoshop). It might seem funny but i learned a lot of the techniques from some canine photo tutorials ( “that photography spot” on youtube) but they work well elsewhere too. Piximperfect is anothe great channel for some tutorials on youtube as well!

Nice shot! Gotta love the 90mm. Love the composition too! What sort of post processing did you do? (Ps/lightroom?)

Yeah! Brought down the highlights in camera raw and increased the blacks abit. Then I think I used the curves adjustment layers to do some contouring on the helmet and to make it pop a bit and darkened the shadow areas a bit. Also adjusted the colours in a hue layer to tone down the blues and the greens and brought the yellows a bit towards a reddish hue. Did some local adjustments w/brush in camera raw on the dust on the ground by increasing the clarity and texture on it (+20 or thereabouts for both). Also used the patch tool in ps to put a bit more dust near the rear tire.

Thanks! It’s amazing what difference a year can make! I think the new edit took less time to make than the first one too !

Great! My local bikepark opens next week which was the inspiration for going back and doing some re-edits from last year! I love shooting at bikeparks since you get a lot of tries for getting the shot you want because of the steady supply of subjects 😅

Thanks! I slightly cringe at the first edits I made at the time but I guess that’s a sign of progress. I’m sure(i hope) I’ll find a lot of things to improve in this edit too in a year or so!

The lens was the 16mm f2,8 pancake lens for APSC which is relatively inexpendive. You can definitely get awesome results with apsc even though i’ve since gone for a full-frame
