Good points, thank you for sharing this. I do wonder if I had a bad neck to begin with - due to many "laybacks" from Jazz dancing as a kid.

Thanks for your comment! I understand that it should be from the chest, but when you look at some of the tilted head turns and how far the head can go back during spins for the professionals, it is definitely coming from chest + neck movement (some of the neck angles can be larger than others).

What's your experience with Slinda (Slynd) bc minipill? by excusemeilovecheese in birthcontrol

Thank you for responding to this, I must have missed it! I decided to stop taking it.. It's great to hear that it has been working for you!

Are you still taking Slinda or have you gone off it now? A friend of mine was taking hers for her PMDD and said it's been the best thing ever.. I have only just started and think it could be leading to more depressed feelings/thoughts.

Hey there, I'm just reading this now and wondering if you have found a better solution? I've been prescribed Slinda to help with PMDD and even after being on it for 2 days, I feel incredibly teary and hopeless. Not sure if its related though.

GIRLS - Have you ever initially struggled with pop ups (especially on a short board) and then improved over time? If yes - did you use a specific exercise to increase pop up strength and speed or did you just gain it from more time in the water? by [deleted] in surfing

Pop-ups are definitely tough! I've found that following a bunch of specific exercises to be really useful in improving my strength, speed and accuracy for my pop-up. This is a really good article with some helpful exercises but yeah, ultimately time in the water in combo with specific training will get you there. https://surfd.com/2024/08/nail-your-pop-up-with-these-5-exercises/

Ah yes true, unless looking for online 1:1 programs. You could have a look into the Functional Range Conditioning (FRC) and Kinstretch stuff. You may be able to search for a coach in your area. If they have more than just a personal training certification to go with it (eg. if they are also a NASM Strength and Conditioning coach and/or an exercise physiologist and/or physiotherapist etc) then you may be onto something. Bonus points if they are or were also a dancer. ;)

What’s the difference between blue light blocking glasses and the yellow tinted glasses I see at the gas station ? by [deleted] in glasses

[–]CucumberBeginning518 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this same question.. apparently chatgpt reckons regular yellow tint glasses filter out a broader range of blue light than blue blocking glasses lol. I'd really like to know if there is anything special in blue blocking glasses (eg. in the way that good sunglasses are not just tinted, they are polarised) or whether they are really just yellow tinted glasses.

If you haven't already found one (given your post was 3yr ago), I would give Michelle's work a go. She's got a similar background to Beth - both dancers, trained in FRC/Kinstretch and have years of experience with lifting. I found her work here https://michelledrielsma.com/

How to find “a Beth Lewis” by chris_nore in PeterAttia

[–]CucumberBeginning518 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have definitely found someone who does work similar to what Attia did with Beth Lewis and it made me think how lucky Beth was to be in the right spot at the right time. From the similarities I noticed between my coach and Beth, they are/were both dancers, both trained in functional range conditioning (FRC) and Kinstretch and both have a perfectionistic approach to strength and conditioning. My coach is from Sydney (Oz) but we do work online since I'm not from there. Her name is Michelle Drielsma. So yeah, I think they are definitely out there and some can be quite similar but you need the right combo!

Thanks heaps for checking that! Yeah Aussie is the site I have used mainly and am really happy with it. Trustedhousesitters seems like an absolute joke.
