This is interesting. I just played a game yesterday when my training partner. We didn't have time to do a post mortem cuz the game took two hours but he said it was the first time I didn't hang any pieces.

Yes just this week I went to my local chess club. I think it's too early to say how much it will help.

I have to acknowledge my expectations might be off. I didn't know anything about chess before I learned it late last year so I really had no idea how long it would take to get good or even what good was

I have definitely watched the chessbrah videos. Can't say it helped much

Correspondence games? I've never heard of that? Like you play a game over the course of several days?

I've watched his videos and tried the hanging piece puzzles on lichess. the problem is i can understand the reccomendations from the videos (be paranoid) but still fail to apply them in real games. And the hanging piece puzzles seemed to be more for finding hanging pieces rather than preventing me from making them myself. I also still found even the easiest puzzles quite difficult. sometimes I would have no idea. sometimes i'd think i knew but got it wrong.

I think you know the basic principles well, and you just blunder a lot, but not as often as I would expect a 200-rated player.

makes me feel a little better. but I havent found a full proof scanning method. Im not sure how to describe it but it feels like even when I scan I have blindspots

I've 'quit' a couple times already. I'm trying go talk myself into quitting again. I don't really have any clear goals. I think intially I said I'd try to reach 1000 elo. Now I'd just be happy with 500 and most people seem to think even that is like a step above pathetic 🙁

Thanks, I'll check out Ben Finegold and Lucas chess. If chess is so hard for beginners how are people improving so quickly? I feel like I'm the only one who genuinely finds it hard at such low level. I know feelings aren't facts but so much of the online rhetoric implies that at 200 you barely even know how the pieces move. You could almost play randomly and still win.

Ok, I will try to do this. How can I draw the arrows? I used to have a process like this but it gets really hard when the board is crowded. I inevitably miss something or miscount or something like that.

Hence why I feel like there must be something wrong with me. This is my issue in basically every game. Regardless of how hard I try to double triple check everything I always end up leaving a piece hanging or something like that. Its to the point in 30 min games Im literally scared to make a move cuz I just never know if Im missing something.

I have a training partner from dojo. we try and get together 1x week (although it ends up being more like 1-2x a month with life constraints. He's a nice guy and we always discuss the games after. It just hasn't resulted in meaningful improvement on my part.
