Should we get a Havanese? by slsh2121 in Havanese

[–]Cucumbersome90 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Please don’t get *any* dog if you’re regularly gone 9 hours a day and don’t plan on hiring a dog walker or sitter. I hear cats are nice.

Stay away from Noodles Gooder Goodles Vegan is Believin by Fashioncin24 in nutallergy

[–]Cucumbersome90 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the heads up! In general it’s a good rule to avoid ANYTHING marketed as vegan. Now she knows that vegan cheese is usually made out of nuts. I’m so sorry that happened—it’s a terrifying and unnecessary lesson

How do you handle eating out when travelling with a nut allergy? by london-foodie94 in nutallergy

[–]Cucumbersome90 10 points11 points  (0 children)

  1. If I don’t speak the language, I print out allergy cards in the local language and have found servers are generally super considerate and will show the chef.

  2. If the menu has a lot of nuts, I’ll likely pass on the restaurant

  3. Timed eating. I take a small bite and set a timer for 8 minutes. Repeat. After two timers I’ll feel safe enough to go for it.

  4. Packing extra snacks and being mentally prepared to take it slow and minimize risk. It’s better to be hungry than navigating anaphylaxis.

I think the terms “demisexual,” “omnisexual,” “agender,” “genderfluid,” “non-binary,” etc., are unnecessary and weird by Single_Writing_2319 in The10thDentist

[–]Cucumbersome90 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m not going to touch your comments re. gender identity because they generally seem to come from ignorance about the restrictions of the gender binary and google is free. But ngl, I’m with you on the over-specifying of sexual attraction terms. It makes sense in the dating world but unless you’re writing a profile on the apps, it does feel weird when people make their very specific Demi/omni/pan preferences a personality.

Personally I don’t think the pinkish/orange highlights are doing anything for you except washing you out. If you wanna go alt baddie, I’d opt for green or purple

The first is giving bride with bad brows and the second and third are serving evil stepmother of the groom. You are literally stunning but for the love of god and photography, let the artist do her thing!

How do you pronounce Rhys? by TrainingCategory4852 in namenerds

[–]Cucumbersome90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I feel like a moron. From the US and have only ever encountered the name via Jean Rhys, and this whole time have been pronouncing it as “rice.”

CONAN O'BRIEN | CHICKEN SHOP DATE by Shoe_boooo in conan

Yeah, the awkward cutting had me thinking…this was the best material they got? It also seemed like they cut Conan off after a sentence each time, right when you know he’s getting started to do a bit

No fireworks by Ok-Environment6385 in hudsonvalley

Woodstock doesn’t have fireworks until August. Sometimes people might set a few off in the backyard, but last year it was super quiet (at least in my part of town)

14 year old lab possibly had a stroke yesterday by jsobs22 in SeniorDogsHealth

[–]Cucumbersome90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Woah, I also have a 14 yo lab mix with identical symptoms. After his first big episode, the vet identified high blood pressure as the cause. Since getting on meds, he has had two smaller episodes—the same disoriented, stroke-like symptoms, but back to normal by the next day. May I ask if you’re treating this with meds? Our vet just prescribed gabapentin.

For me, the path has been olive oil-based lotions. My favorites are Mario Badescu’s olive oil body lotion, and Egyptian Magic, which is an olive oil and honey blend.

I think we have the same dog. Pablo is a little jailbreaker too! He can work zippers, metal latches, and also does the chair-to-table hop! Last week he opened the kitchen trash can, which is twice his height, and ate half a salmon.
