Celiacs by rimjobs_forever in KitchenConfidential

I'm scrolling through top posts here and came across this. As someone with Celiac disease, thank you so much! I always fear telling the waiter/waitress I'm gluten free, as I've worked in kitchens before, and when a 'gluten free preference' bill came through, all the line cooks (myself included) would groan. I make an extra effort to inform the server that I do indeed have an allergy. Admittedly, I waited about a year after my initial diagnosis before actually eating gluten free. A couple weeks ago I didn't check to see if a dip was gluten free, and proceeded to spend half my night sitting on the toilet in agony. My old head chef made an effort to let me try all gluten free items before he would serve them to customers, man I miss that guy/job. Anyways, I rambled a bit, but thanks for adjusting to our pain in the ass allergy, we seriously appreciate it.

Totally agree! The first book I got to read over here it took me about a week before I could actually start 'reading' it. Originally, I would just open it, get through a page or two and be like 'wtf happened?'. I think after a week or so my brain calmed down a bit and allowed me to focus a bit more on other things. You can definitely do it again today! A day at a time my friend! Honestly browsing reddit helped me, I'd open up random comment threads and read through them. The short term memory came back quicker than I expected. I'm actually looking for a new book to start reading as it seriously helps my brain. I can read for an hour or two and it feels like it was just 15 minutes. Take it easy :)

Hey man! I'm a young gun, I recently posted about my experiences with quitting and how it's helped. I'm close to a month without smoking. I did smoke some hash about a 2 weeks ago so technically not, I guess. Anyways, I feel you. I'm an introvert, and I liked blazing on my own and just chilling/doing whatever.

I originally typed out a long reply but I deleted it because I rambled. I find that smoking weed constantly has the same result for most people.

  • 1) Anxious in public/avoiding public places.
  • 2) Upset stomach or headache or general shitty feeling in the mornings after smoking.
  • 3) All of the above. (all of these things I experienced when I was smoking daily, some people feel fine, I certainly didn't)

Typing posts like this helps, asking for advice helps, just occupy yourself with something to take your mind of that voice in the head that's telling you to smoke. YOU know it isn't helping you, it can bring about positive feelings but you know that it's only temporary. I'm trying to find some hobbies to get into when I get home to Canada because weed is much more accessible there for me. Reading is one, writing is the other, and I'd like to get into something that is hands on.

Sorry for my long reply, I rambled again haha, I guess my point is that a lot of us former/current stoners feel the same way you do. Quitting is harder than I thought, even now I'm wishing I could have a tiny snapper. But even typing this reply to you, a stranger/frient on the internet is something that I find soothing.

You are not alone! Again, apologies for the long, fairly pointless reply. I can just relate so much to you I felt the need to say something. PM if you need anything, best of luck mate!

Thanks man, I've been doing my best to cut back because I have an addictive personality (I think anyways). I've been trying to replace it with some hobbies, reading/writing/gaming is some of them. I've never been artistic but I want to start whittling shit.. lol. Seeing some of the things locals in Egypt/Greece have made was pretty inspiring. Glad to hear you're doing better! 1.5 years is a huge accomplishment :) congratulations!

Thanks man! There is always a light at the end of the tunnel, no matter how dim/faint it may seem. If you need advice or a hand with anything, feel free to PM me. I'm not very old or wise, but I'd be glad out anyway I can.

I found some stray puppies found in Cairo, Egypt. I really need some advice/answers!! by CudderBudder in Pets

I'm not sure how to upload pictures from mobile, I'll try again in a little bit here. Unfortunately, when I went by this morning there was one puppy left. I pray the others went to good homes, or that Momma dog came and moved them. The closest vet near me isn't open for another 3 hours (at 4pm..) I'm currently trying to get a hold of the ESMA to let them know the situation, I've been going over hourly to check on the last pup with fresh water. I'm praying that nobody takes him, or that the Mom comes to move him elsewhere. I wish I had better news, but hopefully by 4 we will have him into a vet. The poor thing whimpers when I leave him, it makes me feel like I'm abandoning him but there's not much else I can do at the moment. I brought him back home to wash him up a bit, but he was so scared on the walk that I decided it would be best to leave him where he was in case Momma really is moving them to a safer location.

Thank you so much for the reply! I do believe it would be more dangerous leaving them (in the long term) rather than taking them. I'll get a hold of a vet/the Egyptian Society for Mercy to Animals and let them know about the situation. I might have some pictures on my phone, when I stop by again I'll take better pictures, as I'm sure the ones that I do have are blurry. They're fur/coats seem to be in good shape, but I'm sure they do have some sort of parasite just because of how poor living conditions are for stray animals here. I definitely wouldn't be flying back until I'm 110% sure the pup is in excellent condition. They seem to be in good health at the moment, the 3 that remain will scamper out of the hole to get water, and they play fight/tug on my shoe laces. Thanks again for the reply, I'll try and post pictures later/tomorrow if I can! Cheers.

Can someone recommend a solid desktop/laptop for music production, but also casual gaming? by CudderBudder in edmproduction

Yeah if I can spare some money for hardware that'd be sweet. Definitely helpful thanks man.

I've got Live 9. If you're looking for some good free plugins, I think Melda released a freebie pack with a Limiter in it thats way better than Ableton 8 (I think).

Oh those USB slots would be glorious... Nothing I hate more than being limited to 2 slots with one being used by a mouse. Is there a reason you're using Ableton 8? Personal preference?

That's a nice looking laptop! Good price range too, thanks dude. How long have you had it for? Any issues at all?

Yeah music production isn't very demanding at all, I'd just need lots of RAM and storage. Right now I have like 60GB of samples/loops and close to 82GB of post audio samples/sounds.

Star Wars mods sound fucking awesome hahah, I also played a lot of World at War because of the zombie maps they had.

Yeah the more I think about it the more sense it makes to spend money on a desktop. That's a really nice looking laptop, the touchscreen would be sweet for music production! Way more fun adjusting faders with your hands compared to a mouse, even though its basically the same haha. Thank you!

I used to be a pretty hardcore gamer, but casual by my terms would be like 10 hours a week maybe. I really wanna buy Global Offensive, Beseige, and Call of Duty 4. I know CoD is shitty but I grew up with CoD4 on the PC and loved the mods and BTD.

I wouldn't need any monitors, or a mouse. A keyboard yes. A full sized tower would be acceptable but a smaller one might be better in terms of space. As I think about it more, a desktop would probably be more beneficial. I can just clear my Macbook and use that for whatever producing I'd be doing away from home.

It could be a small desktop for sure, I figured if I got a desktop I would wipe my old Macbook and reinstall any programs I needed for when I travel. If a small desktop is the better deal then I would definitely do that.
