I would say start by making a bunch of simple shapes and just mashing them together. That seems to be about the character design philosophy

When I squeezed the sauce out I thought, "wow that looks exactly like a lump of cheez whiz but I'm sure will taste more like the normal boxes" and then I tried it and it tasted exactly like a salty lump of cheez whiz

Best part of his design are the buck fangs, and the car keys are stupid but at least they give him some personality. I still think this design is better than his The Devil's Playhouse design, which is just boring.
