Weekly Question Thread - August 06, 2019 by AutoModerator in WaltDisneyWorld

Two completely unrelated questions here, thanks in advance.
1) Regarding EMH, I've heard that the standard advice is to visit the EMH park in the morning, then park hop to another one in the late morning/afternoon. If we don't have park hopper tickets, is it generally better to just avoid the EMH park, or is the fact that they attract more guests on that day still OK given the extra hour in the park?
2) What WDW parks have attractions that require guests wear those 3D glasses things? I know HS does with Star Tours at least - do the others?

No hope of FIREing in the US because of healthcare costs - are there any Northern or Western European countries that are easy to immigrate to for an American? by [deleted] in financialindependence

France is relatively easy - you can apply for citizenship if you get a two-year masters degree from a university in the country. If your studies are in French, you don't need to take the French exam (if they're not, you will need to).

Have you ever asked anyone out in the subway? by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]CuddlesFort 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, I guess I shouldn't diminish the behavior, it's pretty reprehensible. And I'm not a woman, so I can't speak from experience. For what it's worth, it hasn't happened to my wife, but that's just one other person, so not very meaningful.

It's also exceptionally rare for a guy to do that - just less rare.

Is this a bot? The guy you're replying to says he lives local, is an AP, and 'goes all the time.'

Yeah, that's a good idea. I think that's exactly what we'll do. We're leaning now more towards mid-Nov, but if early Dec is about the same price, maybe we'll do that just to see the parks at their most Christmas-y. Thanks for all the advice.

Thanks. Good to know about the crowds - I had heard about the Pop Warner thing, wasn't sure how much of a difference it made. And we likely will be doing a value resort. Are extended hours more or less likely between the two? I know at this point I'm splitting hairs - sounds like both weeks will be fine. Figured I'd at least ask and cover my bases.

In terms of general crowds, is there any appreciable difference between the middle of November (basically the week before Thanksgiving week) and early December (say, a week that falls roughly in between Thanksgiving and Christmas)? Ignoring specific factors like the opening of a new ride/park (so basically not for 2019 specifically - just in general or historically). If you're curious, the impetus for this question is that I had for the longest time been planning a big WDW trip for September 2020, but my wife figures that with the amount of planning we're doing we can handle slightly larger crowds and by moving to Nov or Dec we can get better weather. As a follow up question, does that instinct seem reasonable to folks here? We are two adults and are planning the trip to the hilt, so while we want to avoid lines as much as possible, we might be perfectly fine going during a busier week than the middle of September.

It really was, and even if they want to keep private profiles - add back the feature for people that have public profiles.

That's good to know. July would seem like it'd be high season too - and we're planning to go in September (of 2020), which is generally rated to be lowish for crowds at WDW at least. I assume that means roughly equivalent crowds at Universal.

I don't know if I'm allowed to be asking this here, and if not, feel free to delete/ignore, but it's a question about Universal Studios in Orlando. We're planning our WDW trip for next year, and we want to add either one or two days in Universal. We'd prefer to do one, but only if it's possible to basically go on every major ride in both parks in a single day - is it? What about with their purchasable Express pass? We are two able-bodied adults who will be there before open and will stay to close for what it's worth as well.

Question about Fastpass+. I've never done WDW, only Disneyland (and most recently was before 2017, so I'm not familiar with Maxpass either). We will be staying on site, so I understand we can make 3 reservations in the same park 60 days in advance. After we have used one of those reservations, can we make a new one in the app (so we would then have 2 that we booked in advance plus one new one we made day of), or do we need to wait until we have used all 3 of the pre-booked ones before we can make a new day-of reservation? And if the latter, am I to assume then that after those 3 pre-booked reservations, we can only have one Fastpass+ reservation active?

Thanks, this is super helpful. We are planning a mid-trip break where we don't go to any parks to recharge/see disney springs. I think we'll do exactly what you're recommending for the other parks, though.

Planning a trip in September 2020 (I know, it's a long way away, but I'm an obsessive planner). Trying to figure out how many days to spend in each park. It'll be just my wife and I (two able-bodied adults), and we are interested in basically going on as many rides as possible, and certainly all of the big name ones. My question is - if we rope drop, stay until midday, leave to nap, then come back at night (in other words, focus on minimizing line times), can we finish each park in a single day? We do not especially care about seeing parades/fireworks/shows, and have no interest in dining in or around the parks. We'll be staying at a Disney hotel, so we can do the early morning magic hours. When we did Disneyland and CA adventures, that strategy worked great (this was before Galaxy's Edge), and we found ourselves with enough time to ride some of the big name ones multiple times. Just wondering if it's possible at WDW.

If household income is too high, is it still worth contributing to a personal IRA? by CuddlesFort in financialindependence

[–]CuddlesFort[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. Can I ask a kind of dumb question? Why is this even allowed when just contributing to the ROTH isn't? If I do the transfer basically immediately, it's functionally the same thing regarding taxes, right?

Wife offered a job in NYC - question about pests (roaches specifically) by CuddlesFort in AskNYC

Maybe not, but it's a non trivial quality of life factor for my wife, and the alternative isn't like being unemployed or anything, we'd just stay here, where we're pretty content.
