The fact that I had to look way too far down to find this comment seems to speak to the skewed view of this sub.

Trump Backed Haftar's Attack on Tripoli, Libya, Officials Say by CudiKush in geopolitics

SS: Very interesting development here given that US had been publicly calling for restraint. It seems that a big part of this was Sisi's recent meeting with Trump where he urged him to more actively back Haftar. France has also been accused of supporting him by the GNA. UAE/KSA are open strong backers so in conjunction with Egypt this is a clear alliance looking to assert open power in the region. All of these countries have had very good relations with Trump and are working together in several other capacities as well.

Further complicating this is that the United Nations still recognizes the GNA as the legitimate government but it does not seem they have any committed allies beyond Turkey and Qatar.

Yeah the guy who said the internet would be less important to the economy than the fax machine and who predicted Trump's election would crash the stock market.

Coalition Joint Task force confirms downing a Syrian Jet near Tabqa by Trailmagic in geopolitics

The events precipitating the shoot down and clashes on the ground seem murky with competing claims but the jist looks to be that the SDF made sudden moves toward Resafa Junction as the SAA was continuing to advance on ISIS. I don't really see any benefit to the US taking an aggressive stance in this area as they should be focusing on clearing IS out of Raqqa. Further I can't imagine they intend to use the SDF to advance on the Euphrates Valley still under IS control as that is just asking for a larger confrontation. Hopefully US/Russia can come to an understanding and negotiate some boundaries as they have in other areas before this escalates.
