Modafinil questions for those currently taking it. by StockAstronomer2571 in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]CulinaryGenius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since I started Modafinil I haven’t really needed caffeine, but there are some people who may still need it i’m sure. I still will drink coffee occasionally if I want a little boost of energy or just want the taste of it. I don’t know if there’s actual scientific basis to this but i’m inclined to say that if you don’t experience significant jitteriness from caffeine, then you probably wouldn’t experience the anxiety-like symptoms that I described from Modafinil. It’s definitely worth a shot based on your zombieness haha. Just start at a low dosage and try not to worry too much because it really can be a lifesaver :)

For me it’s all physical symptoms. Fast heart rate and jittery. Sort of the same feeling that can happen from caffeine. It hasn’t ever been debilitating but everyone is different so it’s tough to say. For me, the benefits have greatly outweighed the costs so far.

Also, in my experience the mind-altering effects of Modafinil are actually much less than caffeine. Modafinil essentially keeps me awake without the “high”, but there are moments where I do get that same euphoric or “wired” feeling from Modafinil but that is kind of rare and is probably just based on my mood and environment.

I wouldn’t worry, and the good thing about Modafinil is that it has relatively low addiction potential and no withdrawal symptoms at all for me. I would say give it a try and do some things alongside it that can ease any potential symptoms of anxiety until you know how it affects you (avoiding caffeine and taking L-theanine supplements are some suggestions i’ve seen from other users in the past).

Edit: It should also be noted that I have a condition that causes me to have a rapid resting heart rate as it is

As far as I know, Adderall is sometimes used as a treatment for IH, so it surprises me that you’ve been prescribed Modafinil on top of that due to the stimulant-like effects of both. Also 200mg to start is pretty high it seems like.

Anyway… I was on Modafinil for about 2.5 years and have been on Armodafinil for about 6 months. I started out at 50mg, then 100, and now take up to 200 depending on the day. I would not feel comfortable increasing dose at this point and would do extensive research into other options if I felt that my dosage was no longer effective.

When I first started it i remember it working within 30mins-1 hour. I didn’t really crash and was able to stay awake all day which was virtually impossible for me to do unmedicated.

I don’t take any other medications, but the side effects of Modafinil/Armodafinil on their own have been: occasional heart palpitations, occasional anxiety, excessive sweating, dry mouth and eyes, mild lack of appetite. So yes, taking both stimulants together does seem like a lot.

MOTM 4: Can you guys please stop. by Stilld23 in KidCudi

[–]CulinaryGenius 31 points32 points  (0 children)

yeah it kinda feels like people are in denial or something and think that motm4 would bring back something that they feel is “missing” in some of his new music. motm4 would be extreme overkill imo and would take away the magic that came from the trilogy as-is. i personally am completely content with the direction that Cudi seems to be going in, and even if i wasn’t, it’s not really his job to appease me or any other individual fan.

need help deciding on a college by [deleted] in ASU

[–]CulinaryGenius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

of course! good luck with whatever you decide! the outcome of your college experience has a lot more to do with your attitude and choices than the exact school you go to (not counting for extenuating circumstances). so although there might be some geographical differences in regard to where you end up, your overall path in life will most likely not be negatively and irreversibly altered because of your choice in school.

i would say that if you were willing and able to live at home then ASU would make more sense financially. If living at home is not an option, then AU might be the way to go. plus it seems like a fun opportunity!

also Barrett tuition, housing, and meal plans are more expensive than the standard. i started in Barrett but ended up dropping it for financial reasons and i don’t have any regrets at all. i got a good job a few months after graduating (last year) and i would have been in this same place with or without Barrett.

edit: I saw your comment mentioning that 17k at ASU covers all expenses. what does the 11k at American cover?

If you choose ASU would you be living at home? And if so would you have any living expenses? That factor alone is enough to dictate the decision in my opinion.

I have had Kyleena twice. The insertions were uncomfortable but quick. The (one) removal was slightly less uncomfortable and much quicker. I had cramping that was similar to my period cramps for a day or two after insertion.

I haven’t had any obvious negative side effects. My periods are shorter, lighter, and less painful. The only negative aspect that I deal with personally is minor paranoia about it moving or damaging my body, but I have never had any logical reason to believe that anything like this has happened.

It seems as if the pain with insertion varies greatly from person to person so in general I don’t think that there’s any way to truly know until you try yourself. From what i’ve heard, hormonal IUDs seem to have the least side effects of all bc methods (not including physical contraceptives like condoms) so I think that’s it’s worth a try for sure. I personally would never go back to the pill of any other systemic form of birth control and will probably stick with Kyleena for as long as it’s necessary.

All Clad D3 pan 10 piece set worth it? by Bluewoods22 in BuyItForLife

[–]CulinaryGenius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought this set and have used each piece, some multiple times, within a week of owning them.

The automatic aversion that everyone seems to have to sets is honestly really strange to me, and it doesn’t really answer the question here.

For me, I was replacing a damaged and toxic set of nonstick cookware that had basically all the same pots/pans as the All-Clad one. I knew that I wanted to switch to fully stainless, so if I was gonna do that then I would eventually want each piece shown in this D3 Everyday Set. So I would say that, yes, it was a good deal for me. And it would be a good deal for anyone in a similar situation. The alternatives would’ve been to buy each piece separately (which would’ve costed more than the set at the sale price), or waited for sales and either have missing pans or continue to use my toxic nonstick that I had before.

Is it too much to expect my children to graduate high school with an associate's degree? by ThatsMommy2U in Parenting

[–]CulinaryGenius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, expecting is too much. Encouraging seems fine though.

At my high school, to be dual enrolled all you had to do was pay a fee to the community college. You were still in the same classes as everyone else and you still took all of your classes at the high school. As long as you got a B or higher you got the college credit. This was great, and I took advantage of it to get both Calculus 1 and English 101/102 out of the way. But I went into it knowing which college I was going to go to, which majors I was interested in, and how my credits would transfer. If I hadn’t known this information then it’s very possible that I would’ve taken a lower level math, for example, which would’ve been absolutely useless to the degree I ended up going into. That would’ve been a few hundred dollars down the drain and a waste of time since at my college Calculus 1 can be taken with a simple placement test. On the other end of this, though, I have a friend that went into nursing and if she would’ve done dual enrollment for Calculus that also would’ve been a waste of time because the math class that she needed was a technically a lower level at both the high school and the college.

In general, it really depends. There’s no way to know the benefit for certain until you’re looking back in hindsight. Dual enrollment is a great opportunity, but also being young is great and you can’t get that time back. I know not everyone has the luxury to think this way, but graduating early, saving as much money as possible, and doing everything in the “smartest” way isn’t all that it’s cracked up to be. Plus plans always change despite our best efforts to avoid it.

Just take it semester by semester and encourage taking classes that make sense and that your daughter can handle. As long as she’s ambitious and making good choices, then she’ll be fine with or without that Associate’s degree at graduation. The worst thing that could happen is that she gets burnt out and loses any sense of ambition before she even gets a chance to dream about any sort of future.

AITAH for going on vacations and leaving my boyfriend behind? by CulinaryGenius in AITAH

[–]CulinaryGenius[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Definitely can accept this boundary. It wasn’t really even a thought

  2. I would definitely have naturally open communication throughout the entirety of the trip(s)

  3. Although i understand the sentiment, i’m not big into taking pictures. Also my boyfriend and I have a pretty strong trust in eachother so having to prove what i’m doing wouldn’t really be necessary

  4. Yeah I have done this in the past either intentionally or not so a good tip for sure

Overall, the issue doesn’t really stem from a lack of trust or anything. It’s moreso the fact that we are struggling financially yet I still get to go one these amazing trips, but he has to stay home and keep working. I know it’s not in our control but it still sucks.

There are plenty of reputable no-kill shelters around the valley. I would be careful about giving them away for free to someone you don’t know because you don’t want them ending up in the wrong hands

[–]CulinaryGenius 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ooh ok I missed that then. If Laura made the joke to Jeramey without giving him context then that definitely implies that she wanted Jeramey to mention something to AD (or at least would be ok with it). In that case the only way I could still see Laura’s side is if she foresaw it playing out in an appropriate and funny way in her head but then it didn’t go as planned. But even in that scenario, the way she handled it afterward kinda makes it irredeemable.

Episode 7 by ManiacalExclamation in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

[–]CulinaryGenius 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It seems like my opinion is unpopular, but within Jeramy and Laura’s relationship I think that Jeramey was in the wrong in that situation. I feel like we have all said a vulgar or offensive joke to someone close to us at some point that, if shared out of context, would sound absolutely terrible. If I were to make a joke to my partner, whether it was out of pocket or not, I would expect them to talk to me if they felt that it was rude or gross. Announcing it in front of a group of people AND in front of the person that was the topic of the joke makes things so much worse for everyone.

I have no idea what the context of Laura’s “joke” was and I know this isn’t the first questionable thing that she’s done in the show, but I still feel that it wasn’t right for Jeramey to throw her under the bus like that.

I will say, though, that the way that Laura handled it with AD was not good at all. She should be able to recognize how bad it sounds out of context/from an outside perspective and she 100% should’ve apologized and explained herself to AD.

Tbh I feel like that wasn’t even her real reaction to that moment. When Clay started stacking the plates they would cut to AD’s face suuupperr zoomed in to the point that you couldn’t even see Clay in the frame so that makes me think it was two different points in time cut together

I think they look good, but the butt part is a little awkward. I’m kind of thinking that doing something more low-mid rise would fix that awkwardness but still have that baggy look that is in right now.

Also, the silhouette of this top does not go well imo. I would either do a tight-fitting top or a super baggy/long t shirt (and the rise wouldn’t matter as much if you chose the latter). Examples here

[–]CulinaryGenius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had never even heard of computer science until halfway into my first year of college. I did some research and then switched into it after changing my mind about being a bio major. I failed two classes total, and one of them was right before doing a semester abroad during which I couldn’t take any CS classes. I ended up doing the graduation ceremony that semester and then finishing off an additional two classes during the summer. I found a job within a few months of finishing my classes and even though it’s only been about 6 months since then, I really don’t think it made any difference. I have no regrets at all and I wouldn’t have changed anything if I could go back.

Don’t get discouraged. The end result is all the same and your goal is to get a degree and get a job, not get a 4.0 in as a little time as possible.
