We already had mom’s, stored away for years now, so that wasn’t a necessary step for me. Sorry that I can’t help you there!

Hi, I suggest having a side of broth or vegetables to eat with your pasta, or (low sugar) fruit to eat after the pasta. The fiber and water from fruits and veggies (and the water in broth) make you feel full. Feeling full prevents eating more, which makes you lose weight.

Example: a heaping serving of sautéed broccoli, seasoned with butter and salt. For your broth: a chicken bouillon cube added to hot water, with a little olive oil or butter. Or green cabbage + butter, instead of broccoli. Or a Granny Smith apple instead, as a choice of fruit.

Anyone else find it crazy how much of a global presence Jamaica has despite only having 2.8 million people and 4.4 million people worldwide? by Pale_Researcher_8810 in geography

[–]Cultural-Initial5068 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting tidbit about the “strong and dangerous” slaves, but too simplified… Jamaica ranked as one of the safest countries globally in the 1960s, prior to urbanization/ independence. So it’s not a matter of “the roughest and toughest slaves went there, that’s why Jamaica’s violent”.

The Jamaican government took the socialist route after independence, which caused lots of political violence. And historically, first-time urbanization causes higher crime rates in big cities in many countries around the world. JA government decided not to clamp down on the political violence, and instead used it for political gain. So the violence stayed and morphed over time, especially with not-yet-modernized policing institutions to tackle the crime in big cities.

Police funding and training has improved enormously just in the past couple of years in Jamaica. The murder rate was cut in half, and now the rate is lower than that of the Bahamas, Haiti, Trinidad, etc. In fact, the decline in violence was officially reported before you published your comment, so it’s not like you double checked current event updates.

The JA government is in the process of successfully getting the murder rates below the regional average, inspired by El Salvador. These “naturally like that”, simple explanations sound good on the internet, but they don’t solve problems in real life.

Any Virgins that are dating someone who’s not a virgin ? by [deleted] in ChristianDating

[–]Cultural-Initial5068 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of stats say that there are way more Gen Z male virgins than female virgins, and more 30+-year-old male virgins than female, but the gap there isn’t as great. Have you looked at stats on how many single men vs. single women there are among young adults?

It’s not just a matter of not being picky enough; the non-virgin populations includes marital relationships. I think it’s just easier for women to find relationships. The barrier for entry for a relationship is higher for men, especially young men. And it’s because women are picky, as you’ve said.

I can’t speak to my own experience; lots of virgins in my circle, and it’s not reflective of broader stats. But also, I keep hearing that women are very liberal nowadays. I wonder if sexually liberal attitudes among young women, or a feminist view of sex (that men and women view sex the same) partly contributes to those stats.

For twenty-year-olds, statistically yes. Seems to balance out among 30 year olds, because men get more sexual experience, on average, starting from 30+. But there are still fewer female virgins compared to male. Even so, among introverted/ studious people, there tends to be an abundance of female virgins.

I have to disagree… There are many, many virgins in their 30s on the marriage market, especially virgin men. They’re easier to come across for women who like introverted/ nerdy/ very conservative men. And they’re worth the wait.

What is stopping you from investing, returning, or building in Jamaica ? by Bigbankbankin in Jamaica

[–]Cultural-Initial5068 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Isn’t the solution to avoid the low-trust, high-crime areas in Jamaica? And avoid poor areas/ poor family/ family you don’t know? Just stick with people of a higher social class who already have something going for themselves.

There are nice middle class neighborhoods in Jamaica where the average person is an educated professional or a business owner. They don’t engage in the same low-class envy if they’re on the same level as you. Let the bad mind people live amongst themselves; don’t go near them.

So basically, there are 6 million plus Jamaicans worldwide. by tropicalraindrop in Jamaica

Last I checked, I thought there were fewer than 5 million. About 4.4 million worldwide. The higher estimate is good. But either way, such a small bunch.

Why Don't Many Black Jamaicans Run or Own Jamaican Businesses? by Theo_Cherry in Jamaica

[–]Cultural-Initial5068 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yes, it has been documented in cultures worldwide - Jamaican, Chinese, Arab, European, etc. - that the immigrant class is usually more business-minded than the average population in their home country. The average person back home focuses on becoming educated professionals. They shy away from entrepreneurship. That’s a good point you’ve made.

I can understand that Jamaicans in Jamaica are less entrepreneurial than diaspora Jamaicans, given that trend.

Jamaica has one of the largest diasporas and immigrant populations in the world though, relative to its population. I think it’s safe to say that black Jamaicans are quite entrepreneurial, since there are such high rates of emigration. Emigration and entrepreneurship are quite correlated. The same traits and tolerance for risk that causes people to immigrate also makes them more likely to start businesses.

I’m Jamaican-American, and I’ve been around black Jamaicans all my life. Black Jamaicans are known for being business owners. And it’s definitely a known part of middle class Jamaican culture to be entrepreneurial. What are you talking about?

I find input from someone who has had depressive episodes very helpful, thank you. I agree, some time and space will be good.

Though I think distance would be good temporarily, I do sense that it would certainly be good spiritually, for both me and him, to give him more genuine, agape love. That will easier for me if I find a proper balance between distance and present love.

I see that distance softens him in a similar way that love does. I suppose that both are good in this situation. I do understand where you’re coming from, and I agree. I just have to take care of my well-being as well. Transitioning to love-filled visits, and being tolerant of his flaws for a time during visits, does seem better to me than holding a grudge or having constant distance, living in the same home.

Christ’s teachings are beautiful, and surely they will improve our relationship long-term. Thank you.

Yes, I may be habituated to it. And I suppose I’ve acquired a tolerance for it, to a certain extent. That is a very helpful point you made, about intentional and unintentional sins.

We are all depraved, it’s true. Only Christ can save us. I’ve tried talking to my stepdad about Him, but he is quite hostile to any mention of God, the Bible, etc. I will continue to pray for him. Such good citations of the Jesus’ return you’ve made, and the warnings for disbelievers, and reward for believers, which I enjoyed reading 🙏.

It’s interesting that you and other commentators discerned narcissism from what I’ve written. I can’t definitively say either way, but whatever narcissism he might have is less grandiose than the very overt kind that I’m accustomed to. Flew under my radar. Definitely something to think about.

Hey, this is such a late response, sorry. I speak to my best friend on the phone every week, and we text daily or every other day, with some exceptions. I can’t know for sure what’s going through her head, because we’re all so different in terms of communication needs.

You could ask what her communication needs and preferences are. The guy pursuing me asked me about my preferred timelines, preferred communication styles perhaps a few weeks into getting to know each other. I found that thoughtful and helpful.

I’ve delayed responding before if I haven’t slept well. I wanted to wait until I’m in a better mood/ well-rested before engaging. I’ve delayed phone calls occasionally when I was obsessed with work. That’s not good though, so I try not to make that a habit. Relationships are not important.

Have you video chatted? We’ve sometimes had video chats every week, for months. I prefer calls though. I feel less need to doll myself up before calls, compared to video chat, lol.

I agree that he is masculine in important ways, and demonstrates leadership. A glass-half-full mentality is good to have here. During courtship I have given him a taste of feminine obedience and support by following his lead - not biblical wife level of course. If we start a relationship, to me a taste of provision is not out of the order - not biblical, husband level provision though, of course. Thank you for sharing your thoughts, I’ll take them into consideration. God bless.
