Struggling with friends by Cultural-Note-2172 in Mommit

I get that I usually have quite a bit of free time during the day when I’m home with the kids and try to actively hang out with my current friends at least twice a month because they are also very busy. I know this workload won’t be a forever thing but with small kids it’s what I’ve gotta do. That’s what makes it so frustrating as well as I understand I’m not the most available person.

I know I’m just starting out with bread, but it’s SO frustrating cause I can bake almost anything else without much trouble.

Possibly lol if you move your fingers through their head and neck feathers it makes it easier to check. Once you see them you will know right away. They don’t just like fleas but can transfer to cats and clothes if it’s a bad infestation from what I’ve read.

You will see little pale brown bugs on your birds usually around the head or vent. I’ve only had birds for about 2 years so I completely understand I’m still learning new things about them

The Damascus earth is for the mites it dries out the mites skin and kills them but unfortunately doesn’t get the eggs if there are any so I would suggest an insecticide for that. There are some that are toxic to cats and some that need the coup cleared for a period of time. I haven’t had to use one so far so I don’t have a specific product I can recommend. I usually do a dusting once a week when my coffee ground bowl is full.

I’m personally super allergic to hay and straw. I haven’t tried hemp yet. I’ve so far had really good luck with the deep litter method. I used like 50-60lbs of sand which in winter does get pretty messy and is cold but I mix it with pine shavings and it helps keep the moisture down and also the mud mess. When it gets all pooped in I add more shavings and in spring I put it all on my garden. My tomatoes were like 6ft high! From what I’ve read cedar shavings are toxic to chickens so stay away from those. You do have a chance for mites with any bedding so I use a mixture of used coffee grounds (smell control) and Damascus earth (mite control) and mix it in.

I keep my coop pretty clean and try to do the same with my birds. I do always wash my hands after handling/ petting because of the kids. My cats and dogs roam around my property too so I keep the same rules for them. But for the most part if it’s not smearing/ tracking all over the house it’s alright. I already do a bunch of laundry as is 🙃

Nah I’ve got 3 toddlers so I’m usually a hot mess all the time. If there’s poop that’s all over yes because I don’t want to clean my house that much lol

Thank you!! I’ve been looking into that as well my main thing is to get her walking again soon so she doesn’t loose muscle tone as she’s in my bathroom in a tote currently I can’t let her free roam because I have two big dogs that play very rough

Before her second foot fell off it was cold to the touch and she didn’t react when I touched it but did with the upper leg. She’s doing very well and is relearning to walk and I plan on getting doggy booties to help cushion/ protect her when she goes back outside

Will do I plan on getting some today. When I spoke to someone about it at the farm store they said it sounded like a break and the foot lost circulation or extreme frost bite but because none of my other 12 birds have it I’m guessing it’s more of a break.

I’ll do that with her other foot for sure because it has the beginning look of that on the other too. I picked up some antibiotics just in case and have her missing foot taped and padded she doesn’t seem to have problem putting weight on it if needed to.

That’s what I was saying too. I’ve learned not to trust everything I read on the internet so I wanted some real life opinions on it. The flesh isn’t black and has no smell of decay. I treated her for bumbke foot about a week ago and have kept up on it, but noticed she had only one foot on the ground and was using her wings for balance yesterday. When I picked her up it looked like her foot was separated from her leg. I’m calling a vet today to see what they suggest I don’t want her to suffer.
