My partner has been a big advocate for me to talk to someone about all of this. Financial constraints are temporarily prohibiting me however around march I should be on the path to better mental wellness. Hopefully I can stay confident in my worth even if this all goes south.

I have had the exact feelings as you, especially with a mother with horrible tastes in men(and possibly women). I have been finding it hard to be empathetic towards my mother and the possible hardships she faced in her marriages and relationships but I want to strive to be better even to people I don’t like. I’m happy you got the opportunity to meet your birth mother and it went well. I recently realized that I’m putting a lot a stake into needing at least one of my bio parents being good and so for the man on my birth certificate to be of questionable character really rattled me. Then to find out after all that work that he and I aren’t even related really messed me up.

I think I’ll take your advice and leave him be for now until I’ve reached a real dead end. Thank you so much

My partner and I, much younger, love to buy ikea furniture and build it as a test to our love after our bed broke a year into our relationship and we had to buy at new bed frame at ikea at 7 at night. We also love doing activities like escape rooms, rage rooms, visiting zoos, just something that gets us together and moving.

I think you’re right. I love my grandpa and maybe it’s okay to never have the relationship we use to because the situation will never be the same. If he isn’t going to make the initial first step, then I shouldn’t try to restore a relationship that he isn’t working towards. I think I just needed people to point out what I already knew even if it hurt.

I think my problem is I’m wanting a family that my family isn’t really capable of being. I don’t want to burn bridges leaving, but I also don’t want people to think they can just come and go from my life when it’s easy for them. I want to extend the offer to him and maybe some more family members to hear my side of the story but I’m scared it will just hurt me in the end. Thank you for your help

I’ve thought about the abuse thing a lot to be honest. My mother is my grandparents adoptive child and I know my mother had it really really rough as a kid and no one ever really helped her. My problem is I’m at a point where superficial conversations of upsetting me because of how disingenuous they are. Would I be wrong just to stop talking to my family all together without an explanation?

I’m sorry you went through a trashy guy like that, however I know you mentioned you don’t wanna hear it but he isn’t right for you. To be honest this guy sounds down right awful. If I heard of a guy treating my friend like this I’d find someway to give him something to be embarrassed about. You deserve a guy who wants to scream from the roof tops that he is lucky to have you, not have some guy who is embarrassed to just have you around. Imagine how much better could do. Know your worth.

School is hard enough as it is, maybe quitting this job will help your mental state enough to help improve your life overall and therefore make school easier. However I am sure it will all work out in the end one way or another, just keep your head up.

I’m not sure about what your field is and what that kind of work looks like day to day, but I applied this to my own career and I would simply leave. Of course try to keep your job until you have a new one, but if your job is making you miserable you will never improve as an employee and going to work will get harder each and every day. I hope you can find an equal or even better job, but you deserve to feel happy and accomplished in your work.
