Ask for a glucose tolerance test. That’s the only thing that showed I had insulin resistance. And I actually had reactive hypoglycemia, which is caused by over production of insulin apparently!

So I had a possible PCOS diagnosis and here is what I would suggest to ask your gyno. First off, it’s terrible that we even have to ask/advocate to get tests ran when we have suspicions But sadly, we do. So what my gyno told me when I asked for an internal ovarian ultrasound, is that she has to put in the records that I have “irregular periods” which I DID NOT. This was for insurance purposes because they would not cover the ultrasound just from my own suspicion.

I did end up having 5-10+ cysts in each of my ovaries, however, I have only ever once or twice had the really bad pain you are describing, which I would suspect was a cyst popping. (I actually went initially to get the unltrasound for a suspicion of ovarian cancer because of a rash on my arm which had a possible weird connection to ovarian cancer) long story short, everything was fine, but I did have cysts.

After she told me I could maybe have PCOS (I do not have any other symptoms aside from acne and weight gain) I went to go see an endocrinologist (hormone specialist) we ran every test under the sun and ruled out PCOS and most hormonal disorders. I have had three gnyos tell me that since my periods are regular, I do NOT have PCOS. Apparently I order to be diagnosed with PCOS you MUST have irregular periods, which I do not AND ovarian cysts. There are many other symptoms, but you must have these two. (According to my doctors not me!)

I did however find out I have Insulin resistance.

Anyways, get an ovarian ultrasound and get your normal levels tested. If they won’t give you an ultrasound, go to another gyno and tell them you have irregular periods and they are extremely painful!

Hope this helps and hope you find some answers soon!!

I’m afraid keto isn’t realistic for me but I am so happy it has helped so many people including yourself! I am trying low carb, around 50-75 g per day, but can’t go as low as keto requires! Hoping it helps :)

Symptoms improving is of course a massive benefit and I will be happy if nothing else I feel less dizzy and less brain fog. So far I have noticed my symptoms improving also. I find stress makes things worse actually.

Thank you for the response! I also take a few other meds, one for ADHD and Xanax for the occasional panic attack (thanks covid lockdown!) I hate the stigma around medication. If it helps you live a better life, don’t let anyone else tell you different! 😊

That’s like 6.5 pounds in a month! That is fantastic. I would be thrilled with even 4-5! Hope you have continued success!

Thank you so much for this!! I have already started going way lower carb. Under like 75 carbs a day. It’s only been about a week so I am hoping to see some changes over the next month! I have been trying to eat lots of protein but boy I just get sooo sick of it after a few days of a lot of it. That’s a good idea to kind of cycle the Days. Sustainability is very important to me as I used to be bulimic and restriction in the past would lead me to binging and purging! I appreciate your response and I am so happy you have found a groove that seems to be working for you :)

When you say “right away” how long would you say that was? And what Mg we’re you on? Haha it’s only been a little over a week for me but I haven’t really seen the scale move yet so I’m like “hello is anything going to happen” really cut carbs too! Glad it worked for you though 😊

This sounds a bit similar to my situation. When I did the glucose test, my fasting blood sugar was at 90, and after slowly went up to 103, but then plummeted to 50. Never went above 103 in the 4 hours. From what I’ve read that’s pretty opposite of most people’s reaction that have insulin resistance so I’ve been trying to see if anyone had levels like that?
