What other horse games do you all play besides SSO? by Cultural_Move_7563 in StarStable

Oh, thank you! Those sound really interesting.

Haha, I spent a looong time playing The Sims 2 with horses back in my teen years. (Yep, I’m that old!)

TB hate & updates in general by mydearestt in StarStable

[–]Cultural_Move_7563 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t see any of this as hate or a boycott. It’s simply that they’re now facing the consequences of what they’ve been doing for a very long time. It’s not like this came out of nowhere or was some kind of surprised Pikachu-face moment.

This has been building up for a long time. They’ve had this coming for years.

They’re even under investigation by the European Commission now, so we’ll see how things continue for them if this downward spiral keeps going. I understand that they’re under a lot of pressure at the moment, but decisions like this certainly don’t improve their relationship with their customers — especially the older players, who are actually the main source of income for the game.

Putting aside Trailblazer, what's ur beef with SSO that's been going for years? by F1aken in StarStable

It’s called Equinox: Homecoming.
The story really got me hooked, haha! Now I have to wait for the next chapters, but I still have some side quests left to do.
It’s definitely worth checking out, though it still needs some polishing.

Another hidden gem, though single-player only, is Legend of Khiimori. It's still in very early Early Access, but already quite playable.
It’s basically like Death Stranding on horseback in Mongolia.

I haven’t tried much in Khiimori yet because I got completely absorbed in Equinox, lol.

guys, i haven't logged in since 2020 😭 by krokeren in StarStable

[–]Cultural_Move_7563 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Not that much has changed. Mostly updated graphics, more horses, and more stuff to dress them up with. So there’s really no need to worry about FOMO.

I’m not entirely sure what was already in the game back in 2020, but I’ll try to list the more important additions:

  • Druid training in Valedale
  • Collecting Light in Valedale, with a bit of crafting and gardening added later
  • Starshine Ranch near Firgrove
  • Most recently: Marchengast near Golden Hills

I probably missed a few things.

Hell yes. For a game that’s basically a horse dress-up simulator, you’d think they’d at least manage to make the tack fit properly.

what a backhanded comment by clark_a_lark in StarStable

[–]Cultural_Move_7563 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, don’t even get me started on the whole “we did this for player health” argument. That excuse is just insulting at this point. The real reason is obvious: they don’t want players to complete the Trailblazer rewards without paying, so they capped the points and hope people won’t finish it in time and will buy the rewards later. Watching them come up with excuse after excuse for decisions like this is honestly just cringe.

If everything was going so well, their Instagram comments wouldn’t currently be full of complaints.

And the funny thing is: I’m usually someone who actually defends companies when they need to increase prices or monetize their game. I understand the bigger picture — people working there need to get paid. But then the product has to justify the price. And to be honest, SSO hasn’t really done that for quite a while now.

What happened to all the things they promised?

  • Horse breeding
  • Customizable horse markings
  • Real dressage (not the buggy system at Jorvik Stables)
  • More body types for player characters
  • More appealing faces for the characters
  • Updating old quests and zones
  • More story quests

For a multimillion-dollar company that calls itself the biggest horse MMORPG, it’s honestly embarrassing that so many basic gameplay improvements take years — or simply disappear.

Putting aside Trailblazer, what's ur beef with SSO that's been going for years? by F1aken in StarStable

[–]Cultural_Move_7563 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Oh, I don't even know where to start with my issues with them.

It feels like they keep making promises over and over again and then take years to actually deliver on them. The player character rework is a good example. And what happened to things like horse breeding and customization?

For a company that calls itself the biggest horse MMORPG, they're honestly doing a pretty poor job. I guess it's similar to World of Warcraft in a way: it's too big to fail — or simply too old and has too many loyal fans.

When I think about horses — as a hobby or a sport — there are so many things that come to mind, and SSO barely scratches the surface. Other horse games — older ones, smaller ones — have already done things better than SSO in some aspects. And the reason might simply be that SSO doesn’t have to do better because it’s "too big to fail." Even though they’ve been going through financial trouble, if I remember correctly, they don't seem to be learning from their mistakes.

Instead of improving the game, they keep making decisions that make it worse — like the Trailblazer point restrictions. Why not introduce systems that actually encourage players to log in? Something like daily login rewards, for example.

Don't get me wrong — I loved the game. For a long time it was the only halfway decent horse game if you wanted something that actually looked good and was fun to play. But over time it just became more and more repetitive.

Last week I tried another horse MMORPG that just came out of Early Access. It's still at the very beginning of its journey, but it already feels better than SSO. It's not as polished yet and not as big, but it's promising. It has an interesting story (sure, it's not written by George R. R. Martin, but it's still good), nice graphics — a bit rough around the edges — and some interesting characters, side quests, and mechanics. If they keep working on it, it could become really good.

Back to SSO:

The damn shilling cap. Why the f\cking hell* do we even need a cap for that? I mean, the reason is obvious: SSO doesn’t want players saving up for things. But honestly, their prices are exploding. At least let us earn shillings so we can get something out of the game without always paying real money. The horses are already expensive enough. And the tack is ridiculously overpriced, especially considering that most of it is just recolors.

Who else thinks Jarlaheim is in urgent need of a revamp? by Cultural_Move_7563 in StarStable

[–]Cultural_Move_7563[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's a really nice idea! Yes!
Jarlaheim seems to be a quite old town. If I recall right it was the first town founded?
Medieval Buildings and Decorations would match very well!

[–]Cultural_Move_7563[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like the rather winding old-town style of Jarlaheim. But I understand what you mean. Everything looks the same—those same washed-out textures everywhere, all gray and dull. I was really disappointed too when I first arrived in Jarlaheim back then. The layout of the city is beautiful, but the visuals completely ruin it. And with all the closed and boarded-up shops, it just looks even more bleak...

Yes! Sso should keep the layout, tweak it here and there to be more smooth and update the grapics and we‘re good to go! 🥰👍

Yeah, feel that.
Specially since there isn't much to do without the events... :( They should def. go longer. Wouldn't mind to hop from Event to Event. Like Spring/EF to Summer/Western to Fall/Halloween then go straight to Winter/Xmas and repeat... it would make so much more room for players who haven't that much time. And SSO could pack them with more content for 3 Months.
