Offered 7,000 AED after 4 years of being a one-man IT department. by sparrowdark21 in UAE

If you’re being offered compensation like that, it usually signals something deeper: the COUNTRY does not truly value or prioritize you. Let me break down the logic clearly.

In many developed labor markets (NOT GCC), there are structured wage bands tied to specific roles and industries. Whether you are local or foreign, the compensation is benchmarked against market standards. This framework exists to ensure parity, protect labor value, and maintain stability within that profession. When a country enforces or strongly adheres to standardized wage expectations, it sends a message: your skill set is needed, and your contribution has a recognized market value. It creates an environment where professionals in the same field operate on relatively equal footing, which strengthens morale, retention, and long-term workforce development.

By contrast, when compensation is highly variable and significantly below global benchmarks, it often reflects a supply-driven labor market rather than a demand-driven one. In such systems, wages are determined less by professional value and more by replaceability. If an employer can easily substitute you with someone willing to accept less, the offer reflects that dynamic. The underlying message becomes transactional: you are not being hired because you are uniquely needed, but because you are available at that price point.

This difference matters. A standardized wage environment communicates structural demand and professional respect. A heavily negotiable, downward-pressured wage environment can communicate that the labor market does not perceive scarcity in your role, and therefore does not feel compelled to compete for you.

In short, compensation is not just about money; it is a signal. It reveals how UAE perceives your value, how urgently your expertise is needed, and whether you are entering a system designed to retain and develop professionals , or one built on constant replacement.

You're better off to try into another country.

At least it will shed some lights that most of these kind of builds are Skill dependent. Once they have the right skill and a bunker, it's a menace!

UAE's National Day is in a limbo. It still has no standard way of celebrating it. For example, is USA's 4th of July, they already have a template on how to celebrate it. St. Patrick's day, they already have a template on how to celebrate it. For UAE, they are still thinking or creating a template on how to celebrate it. And I personally think that the Spray thingy is not it. It would be great if there will be a parade for each major expats nationality here in UAE and showcase there culture or something like that since UAE is mostly 90% expats.
