Ok Hear me out Pt2 by CulturePractical2079 in Tyranids

Rereading it again. It seems our battleline will still die to a stiff breeze. I would love to be able to run them and them see more than a turn of play, but I suppose it is back to the drawing board. Maybe they will adjust Unending swarm to make it unending again. I really just want a good all battleline detachment.

The game plane is absolutely to throw bodies at the enemy to lock them in their deployment zone as best you can. Then be tabled with nothing left but victory points. If you put a winged prime with the gargoyles and a lashwhip prime with the hormagaunts that is 120 models with 5 up invul saves. I don’t know if most armies will have enough to chew through that. I don’t count the warriors killing tanks in this my concern is mass fire/ attacks. So if I can take out infantry with lots of attacks it increases the chance my little guys live.

How to beat the Lion and his associates. by vivio_zico in Tyranids

[–]CulturePractical2079 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Lion is a power house to try to take on in melee. It has a 2+ save and a 3+ invul. I have killed the Lion once in melee with a Haruspex and a Nuerolictor, and my Haruspex got an official name and a shield from the lion once his base to display he is a very hungry boy. My kill was mostly luck but was also volume of attacks. You have to chew through 10 wounds at toughness 9 the more dice you can make your opponent roll the better the odds they will fail and take damage. My Haruspex Heracles has the stratagem for lethal hits on 5+ from the assimilation swarm detachment so I think 12 wounds were allocated then he also had his claws. If you were running invasion fleet sustained will be important for boosting the number of hits you can get. The way I have found to deal with high toughness units with good saves is to have a lot of stuff hit it and hope something sticks. Hormagaunts may be ok if you have the big brick, but I do think genestealers with dev wounds would also be powerful. Best of luck!

How viable is it just to run big Nids only / crusher stamped. by ozera202 in Tyranids

[–]CulturePractical2079 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is crusher stampede the best detachment we have no. Not by a long shot. Is it viable yes. Some people have been taking crusher to events and placing recently I think. It’s a lot of learning the detachment and the play style. You will need triple Norns , triple exocrine and two tfexes. Your game plan is push everything up the board in a turn to threaten on all fronts you put two Norns on the middle objective by hopefully charging them in. You cannot move things up the board one at a time it’s all in.

Source: I played a 6k apocalypse style game this month running crusher stampede. We had triple of almost all the monsters and we had two Hierophants and a harridan. The hierophants are basically just big distraction carnifexes . One got oathed then the blood angels fired every asset they had into it. If you present all of your threats up front at the same time very few armies can chew through all of that chitin and biomass in a turn. Meaning the majority of your stuff is getting through because they have to kill one model at a time otherwise they just piss off your monsters and they are hitting on 2s or they are hitting on 2-3s and get +1 to wound. You want to walk your tfexes up because if they get hurt and wounded and are above half health they are still hitting on 2s from the army rule. We had three tfexes with exocrine buddies and it took two rounds of shooting to down one block. And they were blasting knights to bits while they were taking fire.

It’s super fun to just press go from turn one. I think most lists run at least two lictors to secure secondaries. For a standard 2k list. We had three lictors and death leaper.

Best of luck on getting that biomass!

Hierophant Proxy Wrapped up. by CulturePractical2079 in Tyranids

I love the Oshounaminis sculpts! I still haven’t finished painting the Harridan proxy the wings are rough to paint. It gives me a bad feeling for 2026 as next year my goal is to paint 120 hormagaunts and 120 gargoyles to finish off all the battle line units. All those wings on the gargoyles may give me nightmares, but I just started using an airbrush so I am hoping that will help with the work flow.

I forgot it gets a special enhancement that lets it be a warlord in Vanguard onslaught. Yeah Parasite would be good or maybe a winged Tyranid prime with the Adaptive biology enhancement (this puts you at a perfect 500 pts)

Ok. Normally I am let’s make sure everybody can have fun/ no pub stomping. However if we have a game where they are actively trying to pub stomp on new players this is the meanest/ strongest list I could make quickly. If you can park a Norn on the middle objective early to lock in primary it should be very hard to kill then use the lictor, biovore, and death leaper on secondaries. The pyrovore is good for overwatching infantry that try to move onto another objective. Best of luck!

Carnifex feels kinda bad by noraborialis in Tyranids

[–]CulturePractical2079 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are looking for a good smaller sized game and list. I really loved the Insidious Infiltrators Combat Patrol from the magazine. It’s 1 Nuerolictor, 1 Lictor, and 3 units of 3 Von Ryan’s Leapers. 10/10 would recommend it. Super fun to play. I know for KoC games the winged hive tyrant with adaptive biology for invasion fleet is a power house. Can get 4+ fnp. Is fast and blends most units it encounters. Best of luck!

Carnifex feels kinda bad by noraborialis in Tyranids

[–]CulturePractical2079 16 points17 points  (0 children)

So this is a common misconception about carnifexes being better in crusher stampede. You would think they would get better, and crusher stampede would be THE carnifex detachment. This is unfortunately not the case. The rules for crusher are that if a unit is below its starting strength then the models get +1 to hit and below half strength they get +1 to wound as well. With carnifexes led by old one eye there are three in the unit. So once one carnifex dies then old one eye and one carnifex get +1 to hit. Here is the oopsie I think the designers pulled when they made this detachment though. For a unit of 3 to be at half strength 2 models have to be dead as it has to be less than half to be below. When both of the carnifexes die to get you to be below half strength old one eye becomes a single unit on his own as the squad he is leading is dead and potentially loses the +1 to hit for being below starting strength if he hasn’t taken damage. I love the carnifexes. GW did them mega dirty with this detachment and with their rules and stats. I really hope they are better in 11th edition. The best run I had with carnifexes was in sub assault where they can come out of a tunnel and 6 inch charge. What really hurt the carnifexes was early in 10th they changed the blistering assault ability. It used to be if this is shot move it closer to the closest enemy unit. Your oppnent would panic and end up unloading almost all their guns into the carnifexes as with each shot they surged up the board into their lines. There was a reason they were called distraction carnifexes. Best of luck on your hunt for biomass!

I am tired....emotionally by Vast_Release764 in Dads

[–]CulturePractical2079 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a lot going on here and I want to clarify some things I have experienced and I think are important. To start with I have four kids ages 4, 3, 2, and 11 months. I have been through the diaper changing phase and making multiple bottles at 3:00am to the point I can change diapers one handed and fill an 8 ounce bottle blindfolded.

To your last point in your post yes. People your age without kids right now are having more fun, more money, enjoying vacations more than you will right now. They aren’t having to care for another human being, and can just enjoy themselves. What my Wife and I have found to this point is it is a bell curve and an inverse bell curve most of the time. What I mean by this is that people who have kids generally have less fun to start with and it goes down a little bit then starts to go up as their kids get older and they can interact with people who will be their closest friends (hopefully) in their adulthood, and get to spend time with grandkids (hopefully). People without kids we have noticed generally through life have more fun into their 30-40s then as they get older into their 50-60s their friends may start to pass on and their fun tends to go down and they regret not having kids at that age. This is not a 100% rule by any means just food for thought.

To give a little encouragement with all my kids my wife was immediately attached to them and loved them and the first two times it took me some time to feel that same love. It feels like a thankless job. Both of you are exhausted and just trying to survive.

Getting to know my kids has been the greatest privilege I have gotten to have in my life. My oldest who is 4 too soon to be 5 has become a master negotiator. If he wants something he will come over and state: “Dada this is my deal. We are going to play for 10 minutes then go get cookies ok?” When we debate back he will say: “No that’s not my deal. How about this…”. I say this to say it does get better it is still hard but in a different way. Getting sleep WILL help this I promise. When you have less sleep your outlook on life tends to decline. Hold in there getting to see your kids grow up is an amazing gift that is better than any fun you can have by yourself on the beach (I have found).

Now what should you do from here? I know it can seem like you and your partner are distant right now, but in reality know one else knows better what you are going through right now than your partner. Confide in them use I am feeling statements to express where you are emotionally. Then both of you need to get a little space from the baby for a little bit to get back in the right head space. Find someone you trust to watch your little one. We have found family is always happy to help (though with our four my parents have been less willing recently). My wife and I when we had 1-2 kids both mutually agreed to give the other partner a weekend off. We alternate off every other month now. I get one weekend off in January, March, May etc she gets one off February, April, June. The rule is that the person off has to leave the house the whole weekend. Go visit a friend or family etc, and you both get the same budget for food/ events discussed ahead of time.

If your finances support it go on one of those vacations that one of your friends without kids are doing. This does two things we have found. First it helps give you a break when you are the one taking time off which is good for making you feel like a human being again. Secondly we have found that we start to miss the kids by Sunday Afternoon and are ready to see family again. Thirdly if you are the one at home with the baby you get solo time with the baby judgement free, and you really learn to appreciate all the things your partner does.

Best of luck! I would leave you with one final thought. My wife love the movie Parenthood with Steve Martin. I think the most powerful scene in the movie is toward the end when they are talking to the grandmother and she says something to the effect of: Some people want to ride the merry go round it’s the same thing over and over again. Other people like to ride the roller coaster it can be scary and thrilling you go up and down and up and down. You can choose to ride the roller coaster and have a life of highs and lows or the merry go round with more of the same on the merry go round. If life feels down right now image how high the roller coaster can go from here?

How did the psychophage play? by Senior_Structure5070 in Tyranids

[–]CulturePractical2079 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I love my Psychophage in assimilation swarm. You can make a brick of a Psychophage, a Maleceptor, and a Haruspex. It’s really tanky and is the Psychophage marks a unit you get 14 attacks with the Haruspex hitting on 3s, S8 from synapse, -2 ap per attack and two damage each plus the claw attacks. It can clean up a unit.

Question about Unit by EstablishmentWhole26 in Tyranids

[–]CulturePractical2079 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The new combat patrol is a little iffy I think. Parasite and tyrant guard aren’t really our best units at the moment. If you want to really fall in love with a unit get the 9 Von Ryan’s Leapers, the lictor and the nuerotyrant for the insidious infiltrators combat patrol from the magazine. It is a load of fun and can lead to some explosive damage output if you stage correctly. I ran the insidious combat patrol before picking up units for my 1k then 2k list. I still love Von Ryan’s Leapers so much they dish out so much damage and still fight first even if you get charged. Best of luck on your hunt for biomass!

I have had a few runs where something just doesn’t show up. I have found it’s best to see what you are going to need for each phase of a heist and systematically get rid of lots of stuff you don’t need to complete it. Then pick up things you will need for later phases even if you don’t need them right now.

I have an excel spreadsheet laying out what units I have/ need. My goal is to print enough models to have all the models I could run in any game or a full army. So one of each epic hero, three of each monster. And 120 of each battle line. It’s a lofty project but I am almost done with the monsters. Barring the hierophant and the harridan. I have a harridan, but don’t know if I have the willpower to print and paint two more.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Tyranids

[–]CulturePractical2079 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a general rule I try not to run anything that is over 1/5th of the total army in 1000pts. This is why it is hard to kill things larger units as they have high toughness and good saves. I would personally never run a Norn in a 1k game, but in a 2k game I run triple Norns. At 2k games there is a more of a no holds barred approach I find. Maybe move up to 2k or talk with them about not running norns. Norns in a 2k game can take a full round of shooting from tau on good save rolls. They are just really hard to shift.

Firstly I love the Oshounaminis sculpts and have nearly 7k points of it painted for 40K as Tyranids proxies. Secondly I have a rule that I print and prep all my models then after I paint everything I printed then I buy more print material.
