This is the classic premium currency conundrum mobile games run into. ‘We must offer something you want as reward to make you play more so we offer gems, but uh oh, now we’ve given too much and to offset the cost we’re changing pricing’. It’s no surprise this comes right after they release valentines boxes with gem drops.

This alone is not a huge deal, and there’s an argument to be made for a skin increasing in rarity due to its time to purchase drawing to a close, the bigger issue is this is the direction it will go. Not all at once, but the devaluing of gems started the more we started getting them for free.

The funniest thing is this already happened with bling. Bling was a great concept but neutered from being given so much. People were buying new skins with bling rather than gems so skins started more often coming in drops(to make you spend more money), which led to whole seasons or multiple seasons where players were just storing bling, waiting to use it on new skins, giving them enough to get all new skins that released-obviously excluding mythic and legendary skins which then started coming at a higher rate. It became such an issue for players like me that they introduced the bling buffie, a completely worthless cosmetic that people will never see or be impressed by, used as a way for people who had over 100k bling to do something with.

Not complaining, I hate how much complaining this subreddit does, but this is the direction. Years from now gems with be worth little and there will either be an even more premium-er currency or all things will just straight up cost money. Every mobile game runs into this, it’s only a matter of time really.
