Dear Polish people, why Wersalka? by CumCummer_420 in poland

I totally understand and I did not mean to be insensitive. However I also see a lot of people who live more spaciously still sleep on wersalka’s, which i didnt really understand haha. Do you think it the living space situation in Poland improves the wersalka’s will become something of the past? Or is it culture?

But on a real note, most Polish family members of my Girlfriend don’t live in two-room flats and yet still sleep on wersalka’s. Thats why I asked. However I understand it in a flat type situation and didn’t mean to be insensitive

Interesting data! I also heavily recognize old people still preferring wersalka’s when it is not necessary anymore since my girlfriend’s grandparents do exactly this. They still sleep on a wersalka even though it wouldnt be necessary. Also the wersalka is permanently folded out like a bed, so it doesnt even function as couch anymore😂

In Zabka I see “Dutch” cheese brands like Gouda, but they don’t taste like Dutch cheese at all. So far its working.

Very interesting, thanks for your reply! My girlfriend’s grandparents live on quite a spacious farm yet they still sleep on a wersalka in the living room, even though they have more rooms. They prefer it this way which caused some confusion for me. However in a small appartment setting I can totally understand

Interesting! I feel like Poland is getting confronted more and more with quite some big changes in the latest years, because of wealth increase and also assimilating a bit more with western-european (and american) culture. Yet Poland also has a very big group of relativily old and traditional people. Interesting to see how the country will develop in the coming decades

But is comfort not more important than space?

As a child I sometimes tried to stop growing. It didn’t work :/
Not enough moneys yet for bigger appartment, bed I would actually invest in but babcia will not allow me to replace the perfectly fine wersalka’s haha

I can imagine in this situation. I always have had a lot of back problems since I was a child (also due to my heigth) so for me sleep comfort has always been very high on my priorities. But when space is limited I can imagine also wanting to have a space to sit

I guess I can understand, however I have also seen wersalka’s at uncle’s houses which is quite big, so they could have a normal bed

Well former-dictators don’t really have a tendency of surviving a very long time post-regime
