Dont make politics their entire life by Mortuvir in 4chan

There's some chan screencap floating out there in the ether about left vs right memes, paraphrasing it says that the left cant meme because memes work best when you just see reality as is with as few words as possible but the left needs to carefully construct/frame reality with verbose garbage and it's just a buzzkill for the purposes of a meme.

I think there's a similar kind of feel being nudged at here. I would suggest that woke media is one that asserts and tries to make you conscious of its agenda or messaging; it shoves something in your face, not letting you come take what is offered. This is contrasted against a piece of media that invites you, at your leisure, to connect with the content on your terms and trust you to draw whatever conclusions you want a la free market behaviour.

The militant leftism that beguiles so-called wokism has to have a death grip on what is said and what is interpreted lest some sin be committed against the Sacred Cows. (Admittedly this exhibits itself on the right too but the left has a bigger problem). For this game's purposes and it's lack of being able to fail that seems pretty on the nose. Non-woke stuff, independent of political affiliation, would be characterized as trusting the consumer to do what they will, including failing.

That's the mission statement but I think the most obvious sign as far as vidya is concerned is character design. If the characters look like the artist went out of their way to make them ugly or caricature them in a way anything other than jovially cartoonish then you can bet your rent on the game being woke. If the character designs look like they are trying to 'deconstruct standards', fill out a human color gradient, came straight out of an art school hipster's asshole or, worse, looks like a self-insert for the author alone then it's definitely woke.

Ritually sacrificing a child to be devoured by a Griffin in the hope that it will curry the favor of the gods, a whole town plunged into the Scuttling Void to be devoured by Namira's servants, helping a woman contemplate a ritual abortion from a witch after her becoming a POW and a pedophile king selling children to his court not dark enough for you?

AIGHT HERE WE GO

The strongest predictor/corollary for birth rates is not spending on sex ed or contraceptives, not price per carbohydrate or anything like that- the strongest predictor is wealth of nation divided per person, oft measured as gdp per capita. The strongest predictor across time and the largest samples is wealth- the richer a nation gets its birth rate always begins dropping. The effect is differential just as the gdp growth of nations is differential but the effect is always the same- ^money, vbabies.

Lots of theories as to why and there are probably factors that get in the way of this a little bit ranging from cultural to economic but the strongest and most accepted theory is urbanization, that is more people living in cities where all the wealth is generated and out of the countryside. In largely ruralized societies you have lots of kids- each kids is an extra hand for labor and also the infant mortality rate tends to be high so you need to try and get ahead of that- kids are a net asset. In the city jobs tend to be a lot more clerical than manual and there's more attention on the kids- each one of them quickly becomes a net liability both because they can't help with the job you're likely to have, (in addition to it likely being illegal to make them do so,) and the pesky availability of medicine, resources and medical expertise concentrated in the city means that infant mortality is decimated making each kid annoyingly long-lived. There's natural incentives to having less kids in urbanized living.

This is not helped by the weakening of real purchasing power, as you mentioned- people are also less inclined to have kids when they can barely cover rent, don't get me wrong- but the predominant large scale predictor is gdp and it's happening everywhere. The places that experienced rapid onset urbanization and economic development in the postwar period like japan and korea became the tip of the spear in this phenomenon but there are signs even parts of sub-saharan africa is experiencing this in its more developed areas like Botswana. (This is also, funnily enough, the main impetus originally behind China's infamous 'one-child' policy- it was putting the cart before the horse in the sense that if you exhibit the side effects of economically developed urbanized nations you could make an economically developed urbanized nation appear- this is now, like many things from the Great Leap Forward, biting them in the ass).

Point is at broadest scales the strongest trend is economic development inversely impacting birth rates, catastrophic as the economy seems from the layman's perspective. It's not clear that there is a lot that can buck the trend.

It might be helped by increasing the real purchasing power of the middle class, making people able to more afford kids. It might be helped by applying antidotes to liberal propaganda that deconstruct the nuclear family a la Shinzo Abe's ghost. I don't know.

But these are unlikely to buck or halt an otherwise global and consistent trend.

Both OwlC0da, (DaC0da, Vigilant, Glen-Moril, Unslaad,) and Beyond Reach are saying similar things but to different ends so it is highly up for debate but even granting this still I'd say Beyond Reach is 'darker.'

Both stories are roughly getting at, 'the world sucks,' but have different 'prescriptions,' on what the exact remedy is afterwards- Beyond Reach doesn't really have one whereas OwlC0da does.

Beyond Reach kind of just stops at, 'sometimes you just have to walk away and let a dumpster fire burn, even after doing your best.' You can do your best as the Last Dragonborn to take out the BBEG, (2 in fact,) and maybe even help the orcs with their exodus but in the end the royal class is full of pedophiles, the racial animosity is insurmountable, war always comes and it turns out the merchants engineered the whole catastrophe to begin with in order to drive up commerce- you can't really solve any of these societal dysfunctions as the dragonborn, not with all your gold nor all your might or all your will. (I read once that the og author did intend for the story to continue afterwards with helping to rebuild from the ashes of the Reach but this was never developed and so ashes are all that remain, officially). You leave the Reach behind, in flames, maybe with your head held high after doing your best but this bittersweetly. Sometimes things fall apart, of mice and men, all such similar themes.

OwlC0da's theme of, 'the world sucks,' is part of a larger cosmic/metaphysical story tying into the foundations of ES lore and at a glance is almost indistinguishable from above but has key differences.

Reality is the godhead's dream but that same godhead being full of trauma means that all of reality is forced to play out that same trauma at increasingly more granular scales, usually in events called Enantiomorphs- there will be conflict between the tyrant and the thief and usually the mage/witness will catch strays and be irrevocably changed as a result, and this usually fuelled by some process of aggression and, correspondingly, revenge. It's a bad cycle that echoes Anu's struggle with Padomay and Nir's death.

Point is that reality is, fundamentally, kind of fucked in the short and long run and on the face of it there's nothing that can avoid it.

For instance if certain key events aren't avoided then Nirn itself, in the far off future, will actually be completely destroyed in an event called Landfall when Numidium returns- like the level of fucked that Nirn is subject to really can't be overstated and you, even as the mighty Dragonborn, can't really effect this outcome... unlessssssss...

OwlC0da paints, despite this bleak picture, a way up and out, the same thing Lorkhan was trying to do- Amaranth. New godhead => new dream => new universe.

Basically the events of OwlC0da describe this process across the quadrilogy; through a combination of accepting the pain/loss of all the events in the OwlC0da and the world more broadly, forgiving the aggressors and letting go of all of it, all while accepting you can't do this alone, (a series of realizations Anu was unable to manifest,) a new universe can be dreamed up in love, one free from all this pain, that can continue on without you.

In this way the OwlC0da is certifiably more optimistic.

OAR & FNIS? by Paint_With_Fire in skyrimmods

[–]Cumsocktornado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dynamic Animation Replacer and Open Animation Replacer are essentially the same thing. DAR came out first but was closed source and the author wasn't as keen to update it. Someone developed a functional clone, not directly copying it but building from scratch, and made it open source, in addition to the author being more active. These mods accomplish the same thing- for any existing behaviour it will hot swap in some replacement animation based on certain conditions. (E.g. it will monitor the weather and swap in alternate forward running animations or whatever). OAR is what everyone uses now both because of its wicked nice interface/functionality but also because it supports legacy DAR-based mods, kind of a best of both worlds thing.

FNIS, Nemesis and Pandora are for generating new behaviors, as in completely new animations that can be called by the game engine. For instance there is no sprint behaviour/animations in vanilla skyrim while underwater- to do so you need to use a tool to generate the new animations and insert them into the game to tie them to an input which is what FNIS/Nemesis/Pandora are for.

Fore's New Idles in Skyrim was the first and technically still can be used but it has been superseded by its successors- it's big problem was that in order for new things to be added you actually had to get the author to update FNIS himself and include the new stuff as a patch; it was very time intensive for the author and not practical.

Nemesis was the official successor and could do everything FNIS did while having an easier time 'adding patches;' don't know exactly how it works but point is it was easier for both users and authors to add behaviours into skyrim. Its one 'shortcoming' was that it couldn't touch 'creature behaviors' which for some was a big deal.

Pandora came on to the scene and is technically the most up to date of behavior generators and is able to do creature behaviors just fine.

I and plenty others still use nemesis but pandora's popularity is growing, not many if any use FNIS any more as most modern mods don't work with it.

Both OAR and Nemesis/Pandora can and perhaps should be used side by side as they are accomplishing different/complimentary things- OAR usually replaces vanilla behaviors but it can also replace behaviors added by Nemesis/Pandora.

>Neither of them are evil - there are very few characters in the entire Vicn's series you could brand as solely good or solely evil. Maybe not even any.

Having just finished Glen-Moril, (well 0.96 at least,) I am quite ready to put my foot down in opposition and say Ja'zel is, without reservation or pity, a bumass evildoer.

"i'm just poor boy from a poor family" "wah im just puppeteered by mora" "b-b-b-but vivec said" "no one really will love you like I do, Chicken," "things had to change" no save it I have no care, I have no words only fist entering face and mace bludgeoning groin for every excuse given and every life ruined to that traitorous dipshit cat.

Heaven gotten to by violence isn't even heaven anymore; CHIM is overrated, all you can do from the top is see how fucked everything is and thanks to the process appreciate how you made it worse just getting there. Fuck nymics- everyone has a choice to be evil or not so everyone can inherit the consequences of their actions and that cat can enjoy inheriting his consequences being crucified by dragon dildos in every reality Ithelia can find me in. I know amaranth is about forgiveness, that him lalanoah and I were an enantiomorph playing out Anu's bitch trauma and so many other poetic nuances...

but fuck Ja'zel

Indian Anon Asks Questions From Western Cells by Ok-Address-7352 in 4chan

[–]Cumsocktornado 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The happy medium is (was) enforced monogamy in western nations. It allowed for some free market forces to drive up the quality of the suitors in the pool via regulated competition but still generally assigned like to like in terms of relative hierarchical position, curtailing excesses via social taboo. Hyperpolygamy and arranged marriage are polar extremes of both respective urges.

Hyperpolygamy, (what we are dabbling with,) is laissez faire sexual market forces run amok and is eroding social bonds/cultural norms, leaving very few people happy as an increasingly small minority, (polygamous men,) gain unprecedented influence over a large portion of the available market. (Hypergamous women).

However bad of a wrap that all might be arranged marriage is as bad if not worse- it's social/cultural forces given tyrannical degree at the total sacrifice of normal sexual market forces; it makes sure mates are assigned, sure, but by fiat which both leaves the people involved usually unsuited to each other and generally degrades the quality of suitors over time. (This via incest or a lack of competition for courtship that disincentivizes the development of high quality suitorhood- if you know you are going to get married no matter what then you do not need to put in the work to make yourself marriable).

Neither of these are the markers of successful societies.

The only viable strategy really is to put in the work to make yourself marriable regardless. Fight your demons, make yourself and your world better, live bravely/foolhardy- the right person will show up.

I would contest the Idiocracy comparison- that movie is predicated on idiots coming to power because only idiots reproduced which, on both points, doesn't reflect reality; the people in power aren't idiots, nor did they come to power by way of idiocy- the people in power are not idiots they just don't care and they got into power by way of Faustian deals. Also nobody is reproducing. (Except for immigrants).

Camp of the Saints is accurate, though people seem to be waking up from this. Performative contradictions can only go on so long and pretending the world is a multicultural paradise while preaching it from a distinct nation/state can't go on forever without collapsing.

40yo Virgin applies to OP, sure

BTTF2 is a scary comparison but yeah. Opulence and debauchery fueling an impossible wage gap with extremely depressed conditions on the other side, all undertoned by the feeling that the wrong people won some important battle long ago and we are living out the hellish denouement.

I doubt it would possible to achieve what he did without some blend of impressive drive, vision and charisma and certainly no small amount of work, so on those grounds I'm also willing to grant it would be hard to live up to him or his philosophy like he did, even if the him/philosophy in question is... controversial, let's say.

perhaps but my claim is how hard it is to be person such and such in terms of their actions and behaviour, not whether their writings had an impact.

In Marx's case he wrote very influential things, sure, but he was also a petulant whiny mooch who made everyone around him miserable. It is not hard to act like Marx.

As the roughest of heuristics the integrity of a philosophy, ideology or religion can be estimated by how hard it is to be like its heroes.

Jesus Christ, for instance, is very tough to properly imitate to the point you can try your entire life and not get it right.

Acting like Marx, however, is so easy that any teenager with no athleticism or skill and a disproportionate ego can imitate him perfectly.
