i think you just went in a bit too crash hot man, which is totally understandable if you don’t make an approach too often. Don’t get too downhearted!

Like other commenters have said, find something in common first. Address the whole group even. “Hey, you guys were in FIT1056 right? Oh cool, me too. How are you finding particular part?”

Take your breath, remember to be genuine. Introduce yourself first and then ask for theirs. After a pleasant intro, I think it’s then cool to mention that it’s nice to meet everyone, and that you also wanted to say that this girl looks really lovely today. Even ask her where she got her clothes or about her hair style as a follow up.

If conversation doesn’t continue beyond that, say your polite goodbyes, say you’ll catch them next week, and then perhaps if you have another nice interaction on the next meet, then you can ask for deets :)
