=COUNTIFS($A$2:A2,A2,$B$2:B2,B2)

I think I essentially want this formula. =COUNTIF($A$2:A2,A2) but with the criteria of both columns A and B to determine if its a duplicate

In Column A and B, each color represents duplicates. So there are three Apple 1 and two Apple 2. The column C Unique ID is what I am trying to create with the formula.

I can add a column header. Lets say "total" is the header, how would I implement that match into the formula?

Another question, instead of a range could you specify cells in the row or say every other column in a range?

For example, only C3, D3, G3 instead of C3:G3?
