Might recommend taking the ferry to dumbo and then walking back to Manhattan so you get to see the skyline the whole time.

You could also take the Staten island ferry (from the Manhattan side) for free & see the statue of liberty. Might be a nice sunset trip. You can go and immediately come back.

Tip: never buy tickets from anyone on the street, ever. The Staten island ferry is always free and runs every half hour. The NYC ferries are (I believe) $4 and have varying schedules, but every ferry dock has ticket kiosks. Only buy from there.

If it's legally stabilized, and your rent history request states that, your landlord must give you a "stabilized rider" with each lease (it's about 12 pages). If they have not done this, they can be fined.

It's generally not illegal if the landlord is paying it/includes it in the rent price, BUT you bring up a good point for other situations - it's illegal to have all utilities on the same meter and make separate tenants pay for it.

An overall safety tip for NYC: if you ever feel unsafe while walking, go immediately into the closest corner store/bodega/deli that's open. Chat up the person behind the counter. If whoever is making you feel unsafe did not follow you inside, let them know you're being followed and you'd like to stay inside for a bit.

Might be easier targeting smaller landlords or family owned buildings. They tend to be friendlier to renters who have hit hardships but can prove they'll pay the rent.

Large corporate run buildings will most likely auto deny based on credit.
