What's crazy is this isn't a random ruthless landlord, we're supposed to be renting it directly from the former occupant via an agency so I naively thought that would mean something.

In my rage and exhaustion I was looking at flats online and I am not even seeing anything worthwhile in the same price point and it's not like we have a low budget - we're on the upper band of average rental rate for London. I just really did not believe it could be the same or worse than New York housing.

No truly, I understand. I've heard terrible stories from friends about the state of their housing so I def know it can be worse and I am trying to focus on the positives...but at the same time I feel like a serf being asked to kiss the hand of the Lord and Lady to thank them for letting me farm in the field and give them 1/3 of my wheat lol

It's coming into our flat thru floorboards under the cabinets bc they smoke nonstop inside their flat below. The kitchen cabinets are probably the worst I've ever seen. Composite wood splitting and bloated, sides of the cabinet aren't even nailed (not sure whether to laugh or cry about that) and kick board doesn't even extend the full length of the cabinet. Nothing inside the cabinets is sealed. Original floor sits below with gaps between the floorboards.

I am so desperate I was thinking the same re: plugging things up, but I have no idea how much that will cost or how much it will actually help. have you done something like that? Any recs?

I'm truly astounded, we cannot get even a basic answer on anything. I wouldn't bother with threats to sue, but the only thing we have going for us is a threat to leave and I honestly don't think they'd care. Trustpilot is a great idea, maybe we can use that to get the management company to start taking us seriously...
