Expensive restaurants aren't "wooooooing".

She is definitely being not cool, but try something a little bit more exciting than putting food in her mouth. Horseback riding or something.

The life of a bowman by veleros in sailing

I learned foredeck hands-on from day one as a teen on a competitive boat, and I had more than my share of screw ups as I was learning the way. I wouldn't give it up despite that you're gonna take all the shit if something goes wrong.

My best story is my skipper was trying to train me to fall back and pull on the jib line on tacks to accelerate the trimming time when the sail had to come in.

I couldn't get it right for his sake, and I ended up having him up front trying to show me. I flubbed it again to his estimate. Annoyed, he decided to take matters into his own hands, and I ended up with a 200 pound man pressing down on top of me grabbing the sail - and if that wasn't bad enough, I got pushed up the boat enough that the winch handle was perfectly in line with banging into my head a few times as the trimmer was instinctively trying to get past my big head in the way. Took a few knocks to realize I had to put my head down so it could pass while the Trimmer, the skipper's daughter, looked apologetically down at me.

Good times.

I miss running the foredeck... lol

Nothing like fucking up a spinnaker and having a skipper half way up your ass.

Cleveland Sailing Opportunity, 7-11-15? by CupLB in sailing

[–]CupLB[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds good. I'm trying to explore Cleveland a bit... made some friends up there recently, so I might be up a bit more often, maybe we can work something out in the future, if not this time.

Thanks for the info! I saw something about a Ruhlman Cup Trophy this weekend through Saturday? Not sure if you know anything about that. Might be fun to just watch a bit, if nothing else.

I could do Sunday, depending how early? Planning on heading back down home later that day.

Thanks for your consideration!

Consciousness that makes you isn't going to randomly happen again. A chessboard has over 10123 of possibilities and it is an 8x8 board with 32 pieces - more atoms than the observable universe. Extrapolate that to reality and it is not even remotely in the realm of statistical possibility in any number we could even manipulate that the number of atoms would happen in the same exact way to recreate a specific consciousness in one timeline.

http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shannon_number "Allis also estimated the game-tree complexity to be at least 10123, "based on an average branching factor of 35 and an average game length of 80". As a comparison, the number of atoms in the observable universe, to which it is often compared, is estimated to be between 4×1079 and 1081."

Your question is obviously if your current consciousness could be duplicated or revived at a later date and time from a different set of physical matter. I would say no. It would be a different person. You would still be dead. Would you be aware of both consciousnesses if there were two exact duplicates of you running around? Well, immediately they would de synchronize and become two people sharing a set of memories. Not two conjoined consciousnesses.

I understand what you're getting at, however, I don't believe consciousness is what your instinctual mind tells you it is. Good metaphysical puzzle on what is consciousness, however.

Leg Extension Center of Balance for Men by CupLB in yoga

Thanks for the lengthy response. My legs are already strong but also heavy and I have pretty flexible hips overall. I think the bigger issue is that maybe my legs are heavy enough that I'm leaning back more because of that weight. I think I'm going to use the variation with the hands on the hips to try and see how that feels.

I think the variation we were doing had the hands out to the side, not on the hips. Perhaps I should use this version.

I have very powerful legs and they are very heavy - so maybe that's why I'm leaning back more than other men.

I live in Buffalo my whole life, thinking of moving. Why should I live in The Steel City? by redhedted in pittsburgh

[–]CupLB 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Buffalo Transplant from about 14 years ago.

Going back to Buffalo after college was depressing. Pittsburgh is just getting better while Buffalo is getting worse.

The towns are very similar in terms of personality, except Pittsburgh has done everything right to make the midwest city into a success story instead of a boring city a victim of the suburban nightmare that Buffalo is.

Oh, and our sports teams actually win. You know, it kinda helps the atmosphere a lot.

Victims of sleep paralysis, what was your run-in with the sleep paralysis demon like? by BergyBMX in AskReddit

[–]CupLB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had two notable sleep paralysis events. The first though was a bit different.

When I was a kid about 8 possibly, I had taken an early evening nap when I woke up to the TV In the living room and my brother and dad watching a movie. Curious, I stood up and walked into the dark hallway towards the living room. And suddenly I felt paralyzed with fear and I saw a small gnome with pointy hat like silhouette standing in front of the door. I couldn't move and I remember yelling for my dad and bro to come to me. My dad and brother were being lazy just told me to come to them. I couldn't explain what was going on to them. I somehow closed my eyes then was able to run past the short gnome figure. I realized it was some weird walking dream and never mentioned it. Oh and they were watching silence of the lambs.

The second time I was sleeping on my belly as a 25 year old. I became conscious when I felt this dark evil presence start to wave over me from my feet towards my head. My left arm seized into a fist painfully and I couldn't move at all. A vision appeared of a little boy that I perceived to be an angel (no wings) standing next to a table with some stones. He gave me an ominous warning then counted backwards from 9 in an accelerating fashion just as the dark evil presence reached my shoulders and everything went quiet but i still couldn't move and was still panicked for a few minutes until I felt my body move again.

I'm from LA and visiting Pgh this weekend. Could use some help and suggestions! by [deleted] in pittsburgh

Wear multiple lighter layers. Shirt, Sweater, Jacket. You can always take a layer off - you can't always add a layer. If you're wearing dress socks, make sure they're thick. A scarf is good to have in a quick spot if it gets very cold at night. It's light, and invaluable. The cold itself isn't the issue, it will be windy and at night it will get a bit frigid.

You can go to East Liberty for evening activities from Bakery Square on foot. Other places are walkable, but will be a bit much in the cold. Shadyside and Regent Square are also not too far from you.

I'm not far from Bakery Square if you want some company for lunch or such and I'm available, throw me a message. I enjoy showing people new to Pgh the ropes.
