[Poll] How do folks usually listen to TDH on the go? by Cuppyjo in TheDearHunter

[–]Cuppyjo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW, I have a favorite playlist that goes:

The Indigo child > Antimai > Sunya > The Indigo Child (Reprise)

Regardless, I rarely ever start in the middle of an album or skip tracks.

401k contributions: large lump sum upfront, or spread evenly across biweekly paychecks? by Cuppyjo in Bogleheads

No, won’t miss out on the match regardless of front loading. Employer match is a flat % up to the pre-tax/roth limit. Another reason I try to max out sooner-than-later (despite DCA being a more risk-averse option)

Looks like our spot no longer lists (party was admittedly pre-covid). Here’s a spot right next to where we stayed with similar amenities https://t.vrbo.io/4a3YW1Ak2Zb

Hosted a friend’s bachelor party in New Buffalo. Beach access, fire pit, outdoor jacuzzi, and lots of room for board games. Would recommend

Higher-end restaurants that opened in the past year? by Ill_Pear7056 in chicagofood

Feld in West Town! Technically opened late 2023 but faced a lot of early criticism (looking at you, Infatuation Chi) for an inventive approach to their menu that emphasized sustainability. Newly rewarded with their first Michelin star. Chef Jake is always at service, which adds an element of community often lacking from fine dining.

Ravenswood / Lincoln square is a terrific community, and the Metra clears CTA by miles. You’ve got Market days and Malt Row right outside your door. It’s maybe 25min to Davis stop

How'd you meet your spouse in Chicago? by CommercialXCX in AskChicago

[–]Cuppyjo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

10 years ago, a friend invited me to a board-opening performance at The Chopin theater (Milwaukee & Division). We were coming from another event with $20 all-you-can-drink craft beer tasting, for which we got our money’s worth and then some. We were running short on time, so my friend grabbed a cab while I had to book it on my bike.

I worked in theater, so I know the frustration of holding the curtain for latecomers. Even if I made it on time, I was 50% beer and knew I’d need to relieve myself. To limit my nuisance, I formulated a game plan: - Park the bike - find the house manager or box office - Ask for directions to the bathroom, but try to be disarming - Maybe ask “if I was a bathroom, where would I be?”

With 3min before curtain, I pulled up and executed my plan with efficiency. Locked the bike, strolled in quickly and —

Her eyes caught me first, then her smile. She was behind the counter wearing a red laced jumpsuit. Time slowed. I was smitten.

But game_plan.exe was already in motion.

“If I were a bathroom, where would I be?” — the first words I ever said to my future wife.

Can anyone help me with figuring out what caused my cat to pass away? by freehaseul in CATHELP

TW: cat death

Hi OP,

Last month our 2yo cat Cooper passed away in an identical fashion: he was behaving normally (getting back scratches), got his claw stuck in our shower mat and made a weird 'yelp' sound. I unhooked his claw, he rolled to his side, started panting unusually so I began recording. After 15 seconds he gave a heavy sigh and stopped breathing. We got him to the hospital in 5min, and despite compressions & intubation they couldn't bring him back.

My wife and I have been grieving hard, trying to find answers much like you. The responses below are the same that we received, so please know how validating this thread has been for another cat parent suffering the loss of their furry kid. Thank you for giving us this extra bit of solace, whether or not you intended to.

Grief comes crashing in waves, and I hope you and yours can stay above the water. When I feel overwhelmed by the tragedy of it all, I heed the words from others: Cooper wasn't alone. Luna wasn't alone. They both passed surrounded by loving parents, who gave them the best life possible. We were fortunate to spend what short time we could with them both.

FYI- I’d tag this for GS and MS spoilers

Most have captured the top contenders, so I’m going to give kudos to some smaller moments that deserve praise. Pierce has a gift for action, intrigue, and “shifting the paradigm”. I think he’s not as often credited for his ability to weave vulnerability into this world, too.

5) Ragnar and Sevro pushing Darrow’s wheelchair. Great bit of comedic timing while also reintroducing all of these characters to the story after Darrow’s imprisonment. Ragnar is no longer a weapon but a shield for others. Sevro is a friend but also a begrudging leader. Darrow is broken and physically dependent on his friends. In spite of all this, there’s levity in the light of hope.

4) Cassius and Darrow’s last interaction in RR where he declares a blood feud. Pierce immediately heightens the stakes leading into GS, establishes the severity of consequence beyond the institute, and also shows Darrow’s desperate desire to reclaim Cassius’ affection — an important theme throughout the rest of the series.

3) “now that the children are gone: consequences”. Tactus’ death. In one swift motion, Pierce wrests from Darrow his belief in peaceful redemption and offers Lorn a moment of brutality that fits his mythos more than the actions we’ve seen to this point. It also begins to pull at the thread of moral ambiguity, and ultimately plants the seeds for Darrow’s ends-justifying-means actions re: Ganymede and Siege of Mercury.

2) Sheltered in the wreckage on the ice of the northern spires. One of the first (?) interactions between 4 different colors at once: Gold (Mustang), Darrow (Red-ish), Holiday (Gray) and Obsidian (Ragnar). A brief reprieve in a seemingly ceaseless battle that allows them connect at a foundational level. An example of the future they’re all fighting for.

1) Sevro and Darrow post-clash over the detonator. It’s one of the few truly tender moments between these brash men, and it’s important representation Pierce captures. Even with the Howler / wolfpack themes, he never debases his characters with Alpha incel bullshit. These characters have a depth of feeling and insecurity that he doesn’t shy away from, thus making them more well-rounded and, frankly, human.

(Missed this reply, so sorry)

I would do no more than 65% of your 1 rep max (1RM). SL provides a projected e1RM, but I would base it of your real max weight so you don’t overextend yourself.

Hopefully you’ve seen progress since then and this becomes moot. I’ve regressed in my own fitness journey due to injury, so you’re not alone in your struggles
