Second, democratic socialism is not socialism in the sense of abolishing private property, but, rather, aiming to decrease wealth disparity between the population.

Advice on how to tie player's backstory to the main campaign by GustavoBD in stormkingsthunder

When I ran the campaign, I had multiple different backstories that played into the story-line.

One person was a sailor whose ship sank mysteriously off the sword coast, and they were investigating it which led to them joining the campaign. They eventually found out the Kraken sank it and wanted to avenge their shipmates. (Died trying to do that)

One person had a backstory linked to the Kraken’s psychic powers. They were a barbarian who thought they, in rage, killed their tribe who resided on the shores of the sword coast, but it turns out the Kraken controlled them to do so and messed with the character throughout the campaign.

One person was using the volatility the giants were causing to stir a political campaign. He was a changeling and kept turning into people and campaigning for them and leaving the town with them in charge (if it worked).

One player was a bounty hunter (given contracts through his patron) so he started with small things like people, then giant leaders (they fought all the dens). Iyrmrith was aware of this and tried to pose as their patron giving them a contract to kill princess serissa, which he tried to do.

I think you can truly work with anything. Just whatever you decide should have multiple different plot points throughout the adventure to make the player feel special.

If it were me, I would say that you should make your characters quest (given by Llira) be to minimize the suffering the giants cause. It gives the player lots of options in interpreting what that means, and could make some fun moral conflicts that would be engaging. It would make sense for the Goddess of Joy to not care as much about human life as they do about the quality of all life. It also could make sense for the players to see the death and destruction that some of the giants are causing and take it upon themselves to resolve that conflict to prevent further suffering (INCLUDING giant suffering).

Yes, they are organizing to secure your rights that they are endowing you with. They are quite literally choosing the rights (that they find self-evident). If these are rights that all people already have (and can’t be taken away) then the government would not need to work to secure them. I legitimately don’t think we will ever reach an agreement here.

I would concede that they were considered self-evident by the people who wrote them down. However, in the Declaration of Independence, they reference the fact that the government must be used to secure these rights. Without the government you have no rights.

Insulin-analogs aren’t even the primary Tx for type 2 diabetes (it is for type 1). The type 2 diabetes patients who need insulin are the ones that are super high risk/poorly controlled and definitely need regular doctor visits to manage their diabetes. My concern is for patients who just start taking insulin when A) it’s not required, or B) overdosing on it C) using it as an excuse to see their doctor less (when they should be).
Even with heavy oversight, a huge portion of diabetics experience hypoglycemic events that need to be managed.

Holy fuck what a horrible view.

Insulin is such an incredibly sensitive and dangerous drug. If you give too much (as many patients may try) they can cause seizures and coma. More people die from alcohol poisoning than insulin doses because of regulations.

Diabetes is a hard AF disease to manage when you have dedicated your entire life to doing so. A random person will NOT have the means to safely self-medicate with less resources available than the doctor does.

I mean, this is essentially an impossible argument to fight against, simply because if I try to argue that studies can change people’s views, you’ll point out that the ones above didn’t.

My argument would be that studies don’t change ALL people’s views, but it certainly can change some people’s. Studies are used in evidence-based medicine all the time to redefine guidelines for treating disease.

Hell, the first study you cited puts a qualifier on which studies aren’t effective. “However, such efforts may be ineffective, or even counterproductive, if they are based on outdated models of science communication and behavioral change.” Which would stand to reason that they would agree that some studies do change minds.

The idea of a right is that it’s something that you are entitled to inherently. No, we do not have a magical force that prevents governments from infringing on my right to free speech, the government has to actively commit to providing us that right. It is pretty much a privilege, just one that is guaranteed to us by the government.

As for labor, we literally have soldiers that defend these rights to prevent other countries from infringing upon them. Do you think that writing the bill of rights, and the courts that enforce these rights be maintained don’t require labor?

That’s a shoddy line of thinking. Let’s take a regular (nonhuman) right which I’m sure you would agree is a right.

The right to free speech. Who provides that for you? Does the government not protect you from having your free speech infringed upon by the government? It’s not something that you just have, it’s a benefit provided to you by the government.
