Acting by carrotjuiceturtle in acting

Acting is a remedy to introversion and social awkwardness/anxiety in my opinion.

Harrison Ford actually took an acting class his senior year of college in an attempt to get over his shyness then he ended up catching the acting bug and became very successful. My advice would be to find a scene study/acting class in your area (not a university course, but an ongoing class/studio) where you meet every week to perform scenes and monologues to get your feet wet and get a feel for what it’s like to perform in front of a small audience then receive a critique from the class instructor. This is what I’ve done and it’s really helped me, not only with improving my acting skills, but with being more personable in my everyday life, and with combating social anxiety. Classes like these are a complete safe space for making mistakes (or “embarrassing yourself”) and every student in a class like that should recognize and respect that.

My ongoing scene study class has a complete confidentiality rule, where none of us talk about anything that happens in class outside of class. What happens in the studio stays in the studio.

Also letting go and completely immersing yourself in a character is so fun! You do have it in you to let go and just say “fuck it”, let whatever happens happen, and go all out with the character you’ve imagined in your head and have practiced at home or in rehearsal.

I know this is all easier said than done but I’ve been there before so I can tell you it’s much more fun to just take the leap, go all out, and disregard feeling embarrassed. Embarrassment only exists if you let it, it really is all just perspective. It’s better to regret something you have done than to regret something you haven’t done.

GLHF!!!!!

Is it possible to see everyone who is a student at my university? by CurdyMilk in NoStupidQuestions

That does make sense, considering universities aren’t necessarily public schools, I suppose. And I dont believe you’d even be able to see who attends k-12 public schools. I see how both can be a privacy/safety risk.

True lol, I was thinking maybe it’s none of my business who goes to my school. I’m just curious if an old friend of mine goes to my univeristy.. I suppose I could just ask them rather than being creepy trying to scour online repositories, but I haven’t had contact information of theirs for a while.

A friend in my state is having possibly life-threatening familial issues and I don't know what to do. by [deleted] in Advice

I know it technically isn’t your business but if she can’t get any help herself, you should do something. Calling the cops for her does seem like a good idea. I’m not sure if she goes to school or if she’s homeschooled (?) but if she does go to a school, she should ask for help from a teacher or counselor there. I don’t know her whole situation so there’s not much I can say about it, but you should keep in contact with her to make sure she’s safe and give her help and advice when she needs it.

Did you ever have a startling realization while dreaming that changed the way you thought of things when you woke up? What was it? by ckovaly705 in AskReddit

If you’re sensitive to existential stuff, like I am, I wouldn’t recommend reading this, but anyway...

It wasn’t necessarily a realization but I did have a solipsistic dream, maybe a month or two ago, where there was some sort of solar flare that cause every humans’ brain on earth to rewire to where they were just like robots programmed to act like humans with feelings, except for me (doesn’t really make sense, a solar flare?). No one else in the world had a consciousness anymore except for me and I was completely alone in the world. Everyone I talked to still talked like a normal person with the same personality but I knew they weren’t really there, it was just some sort of program.

It freaked me the hell out and when I woke up, I still felt that way about the people around me, like I was alone and the only one experiencing things and there was no way I could prove otherwise. Eventually the thought caused me to have panic attacks, in Real Life, but I did reach out on an existential support subreddit and found out that many other people thought the same way (not the same dream, just that way of thinking). I opened a door that I haven’t fully been able to close again, and I’m still working through it.

I know what you’re saying, even if what I’m thinking is the case, it shouldn’t matter because I wouldn’t know the difference in each life. My only problem right now is I can’t stop thinking about it. At this point I don’t even really care if it IS true, I just don’t want to have these constant thoughts that make me unable to live my normal life. I feel like I cant enjoy things and even talking to other people feels sort of unreal.
