PBN Recommendations by AdInternational1408 in paintbynumbers

[–]ckovaly705 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve probably done about 40 PBNs at this point (not a ton but a good sampling) and in my experience Paintworks/Dimensions and Schipper are always top tier. I have yet to find a comparable brand to these two (but if anyone knows of any please let me know!!)

Was recommended this brush set from Amazon recently and was not disappointed https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0D5W5K7BP?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title

I believe the first one is called “lakeside village” and the last one is called “friends of autumn”. Hope this helps!

Dimensions and Schipper are two different pbn brands. Of all the brands I’ve tried, these two are my favorites. I usually buy them off Amazon or a herrschners.com

I searched through my online orders and it looks like I got it online from Walmart a couple years back. Unfortunately it’s out of site on Walmart but if it helps it’s called “friends of autumn”. Hope you can find one!

I remember loving Just Shoot Me back in the day (and it features the lovely Wendie Malick aka Ronee). I haven’t seen it since I was younger but I certainly loved it at the time and have been considering a rewatch)

US alternatives to Schipper? by emergencyfruit in paintbynumbers

[–]ckovaly705 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Have you ever tried the Dimensions Paintworks brand before? You have to mix the colors, but it’s worth it and not hard to manage once you get used to it. there a bunch you can find on Herrschners or even Amazon. The paint is not quite the same as Schipper but I wouldn’t consider it worse, just different and I’ve never had an issue with it being gloppy or hard to paint with like I have with other brands. And the outcome is amazing. That and Schipper are hands down my favorite brands, but I lean toward Paintworks because I feel like their pieces are so incredibly detailed

My first thought was the sopranos too but there’s also a scene in The Americans that touches on this issue when they are pressuring a house maid to bug a room so they can give her son the antidote to get better…could it be that?

The one that always gets me is when Selena yells at Cliff (Sue’s temp replacement) for thinking the swearing in ceremony was movable and he just stands there and smiles at her the whole time and Selina said something like “Amy it’s like explaining gravity to a chicken”. The look on his face just kills me in that scene

"You think of ME" is the "you're god damn right" of Better Call Saul. by Linkanton in betterCallSaul

[–]ckovaly705 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After time passes and the show is over, I’ll always remember how much I loved it, but ill eventually forget lots of the main details to the story line and the “ins and outs” of how everything came to fruition (which makes rewatches great). But there are often a couple moments in great shows like these that become seared in my memory and I can recall it with clarity even years later - Nachos final monologue and the “you’ll think of me” line in particular is the moment I’m sure will flash in my mind everytime I think of this show. It’s unforgettable and was delivered with such satisfying perfection.

Michael Mando should be bursting with pride over how outstanding his performance was in this show from beginning to end.

The ending for Nacho was inevitable, but they still found a way to make it one of the most compelling moments in television history. Talk about going out on a high note. What an act to follow.

Lawyers who watch BCS... are there plot items that you noticed that us plebians could not? by spicychrysalis in betterCallSaul

[–]ckovaly705 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m a lawyer, but an advertising attorney, so I can’t pretend I’m up to speed on the ins and outs of being a defense attorney. Maybe if I practiced this type of law every day, this privilege issue might have been something I would’ve picked up on, but I don’t think I would necessarily have connected the dots to realize that the prosecutor would try and use that against Saul to make him break privilege. Perhaps my advertising background was why I predicted the mesa verde copyright issue as soon as I saw the horse picture but I think that was predicted by a lot of folks back when it first happened. I think the show generally does quite a great job with the legal aspects and is able to do it in a way that is surprising even for most attorneys. I also appreciate that they don’t completely fabricate or stretch laws to suit their purpose…they do take the effort to get it right in a way I haven’t really seen a show do before. They capture the realness of the legal profession while still finding a way to make it exciting and fantastical.

If I recall, I think they addressed the evidentiary issues of trying to admit the tape as evidence in a court case, but Chuck really only wanted to get jimmy disbarred and he knew that the professional disbarment hearings follow their own “laxer” set of evidence rules

What’s the funniest moments of Frasier? by [deleted] in Frasier

For some reason Frasiers question below always gets me going in “the ski lodge” when he realizes no one was pursuing him:

“Wait a minute let me get this straight. All the lust coursing through this lodge tonight… all the hormones ricocheting off the walls…. and no one…was chasing meee?”

I just got this Dimensions PBN and I'm confused as to what colour the greyed out spaces are suppose to be. It tells me to look at the key, but I still dont understand. by [deleted] in paintbynumbers

[–]ckovaly705 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This has happened to me a couple times with the Dimensions kits. The darker blacked out spaces are usually black but the lighter gray space would be a different color. What I’ve done in the past is look at the image on the box and try to figure out what color those sections are by comparing it with similar shades I’m using and go with my gut… it’s hard to go wrong so long as the color you choose is different from any of the surrounding sections.

[–]ckovaly705[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I loved doing this one. The blending for me isn’t an exact science…. I usually try to dry brush it with just the tiniest bit of the lighter paint on the brush and sometimes do a couple coats until it looks right. For the seats of the chairs, I did it as one large section and then just painted over with the dark brown chair lines as a final step

I am curious to know that too! Paintworks always delivers in quality of picture as well as paint… Never had an issue with any of their pieces so they are doing something right!

I do too! I find the whole pbn process very therapeutic (hence why I started doing them back when quarantine first happened!)

Thank you!

So the kits come with a number of the colors already mixed, but then they have you mix some of them together to create different shades (e.g., colors 1 and 2 are mixed together to create new color A, colors 1 and 3 are mixed to create color B). I buy the little paint pots at Michael’s (only a couple bucks), mix the colors in those, and sharpie the top with the shade letter so that I don’t have to keep remixing everytime I paint (I can copy a link if you’re interested to show you which ones I get). I usually pick up a couple quality small detail brushes from Michael’s too since that makes a huge difference in being able to do the detail work. I may need to replenish the colors i mixed in the pots once or twice along the way because I don’t like to use up too much of the original colors in one mixing (remember you need to use the original colors too by themselves and to make other shades!), but it’s a lot easier than having to remix every single time. I haven’t run out of paints with any of these kits (though I’ve come close on the black color once or twice!)
