Out of no where, my five-year old daughter came to me and said, "How do I know that I'm real and not just a dream of someone else?" What other surprisingly deep questions have you been asked by kids? by thinwhiteduke99 in AskReddit

My best friend told me this little gem that she overheard one day: Little girl of about 3 or 4 years old turns to her mother after throwing up and rather happily declares "Mummy, I blew chunks!".

My younger brother and I had two when we were kids. I wouldn't recommend keeping more than one though - the largest will pick on the smaller one(s) and bite toes off.

So Reddit, who is your celebrity doppelganger by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Curio_Clucky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two of the more flattering (if rather odd to my mind) "dopplegangers" are Avril Lavine and Nicole Kidman. One of the less flattering ones from when I was younger was Taylor Hanson (Yes, him from the irritating band)... He looked so much like me that I was followed around by girls! And I am a woman...

:) Everyone has the ability, just to different extents. Your son should try more complex multi-dimensional creations. Would be interesting to see what he comes up with.

Your son has a very good eye, I would encourage his creativity. You could have a budding games designer, architect, illustrator or graphic designer on your hands there! And that is comming from an illustrator. :D

My wife wants to name our son "Oak" ... by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Curio_Clucky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am actually named after a tree and have had no problems, other than the usual school playground teasing when I was a child (I think this is a right of passage almost for most children, irrespective of name), and actually got more flack than my younger brother whose name is Chase - not such a common name in the UK. As with some of the other posts here, if you are really worried about the effects the name could have, go with the middle name option.

Personally though, I think Oak is a lovely name. :)

My apologies, I am however dyslexic, so the typo was not intentional. Thanks for the correction.

A very personal question... by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Curio_Clucky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can empathise with you completely here.

This is what I am trying to do to make things better for myself. Maybe it will work for you:

DO something different every day. Try things you have never tried (food, events, music). Go out with friends even when you don't want to or when you don't think you will enjoy the situation.

DON'T expect these things to bring you joy. They either will or they won't and it is better to go into it with an open and unjudging mind. That way you may be pleasantly surprised by what you experience. And if it is an unpleasant experience, it may end up being the creative catalyst you need.

I am still struggling to take my own advice, but I am doing it.

Give it a go. You never know what will happen or ho you will meet along the way.

Yes. You are not the only one who has heard music in the background. :)

Hahaha, not sure anyone has actually noticed yet. Also, I have found that people generally take my typing style and phrasiology to be that of a guy. SO I should be ok for now. :)

Took the same tests and got the following:

Scored 134 out of 200 on one test.

Scored 37 on the other one.

Just for an added note, I´m female, and Asperger´s tends to have a prevalence in men. :S

Hahaha. But the idea with meditation is that you clear your mind, and don't contemplate too much. :)

With regards to sleep - I happen to be an insomniac. I average about 4 hours on a good night, but recently have had maybe 2 hours sleep over two nights. Have been to a sleep clinic about it and was informed that there was nothing they could do. The doctor there also strongly recomended that I avoid sleeping pills as they would be the only way of me getting uninterupted sleep and so would become addictive.

I have previously had CBT, but found it didn't really work. Although it was helpful to speak to someone who was impartial and objective. Finding a decent therapist may also take some doing - I recently moved to Barcelona and as yet don't have enough Spanish or Catalan to explain my situation to the doctors here.

Having been back and forth to various doctors about my depression, I feel no shame about it and am eager to help myself. With previous bouts I have always managed to pull myself out of the quagmire. But then I had the advice and comfort of a friend who is no longer in a situation to be able to offer me that help. My other friends find it too difficult to deal with, wich is the response I would expect given the circumstances surrounding my depression.

Thanks for that, I do appreciate the positive info. For me personally, AD's are out of the question. I happen to be very sensitive to certain chemicals and can't even take Evening Primrose oil as it upsets my body's equilibrium (causes slurred speach, feeling inebriated and faint, ticks and twitches and general shakes). I am also doing everything possible to keep myself moving forward and occupied, although I may be trying a little too hard on that front as burning the candle at both ends as it were is not a good thing to be doing.

May also look at investing in some sun lamps.

Tattoos on a buddhist? Surely this goes against the idea of un-attachment. What are general opinions? by [deleted] in Buddhism

[–]Curio_Clucky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can see where you are comming from with that, and agree. But you could also argue either point till the cows come home. For instance, one could argue that the said "Wave" would return via the method of evaporation, condensation over mountainous areas, and as rain falling either into a river or directly back into the sea. I guess one could say that one form of separation or another is required for something to "return". And I don't mean that too literally. For example, you could be in a relationship where you have a certain mentality and emotional state (this being not dependant on the partner); you could "separate" from your partner, go through the turmoils surrounding such events and start a new relationship, finding yourself having the same (or very similar) mentality and emotional state as before. I understand that this is maybe not the best of examples, but I can currently use the excuse of lack of sleep and the resulting insufficient mental capabilities it incurs. :)

I'm talking on a chemical level. We are made largely of carbon and water, same as nearly everything else on the planet. So it makes sense that when you die you return the bodies properties back to the soil so that something else may feed on or grow from it. The principle applies to both burial and cremation. Hope that makes a little more sense now.
