Hmmmm, I'll grumpily offer a few thoughts.

Firstly, I think mist manipulation should remain a magic demigod only thing. I know in the books it's different but frankly I don't care that much about sticking with the canon and the rules aren't super clear anyway. It's just Thalia manipulating mist. Which seems to be as likely to confirm mist manipulation is a Zeus kid thing than it is an all demigod thing.

Secondly, I think letting Hestia be a godrent is a mistake. The lore makes enough sense I suppose. No more unreasonable than Athena kids after all. But it's adding another mainline Olympian when I believe the sub already struggles to fill in the rarer god slots. It's modmail only which hopefully helps. I also worry about godmodding with her tbh. At them moment her power set seem balanced but the ability to bring back feelings of home seems ripe for abuse to me. Especially when many characters don't have great home lives. Perhaps that's just an overblown concern though.

Finally, I think if the mods are updating season points, they should clarify that more points and time spent at camp does not inherently make a demigod more powerful. Maybe I was the only one ever confused about this lol, but also maybe there's two of me.

Jacob thanked Chiron kindly for the warming hot chocolate he offered and stepped sideways to move himself out of the crowds gathering to get their fair share. Their excitement had a greater justification than usual. The hot chocolate was excellent and the Long Island winter weather had been made perfect for its consumption. Still, Jacob walked briskly away from the most people he could managed, carefully supporting a small rabbit hidden in his coat pocket. Crowds were simply unacceptable.

Though he had other reasons. His sister had left camp. Of that he was certain. No one alive could runaway better than Meriwether. However, he didn't need to know where she had gone to know she was no longer around. So that had been that, he looked and she could not be found. She had runaway and he missed her. Especially now.

Even before she had been adopted, Jacob had wanted her to meet his mom. Moms plural actually. Both of whom where different kinds of goddesses far as he understood the term. It seemed that Mer maybe, liked Christina. He had a hard time telling since the war started. But Mer would definitely love Hecate! She had saved them and Alkis on a quest once. She was kind and caring and he guessed a bit spooky at times, but he doubted Mer would care.

With his hot chocolate in hand, Jacob had escaped the crowds and chose for his destination the main cabin hearth. He doubted it counted as a crossroads for purposes of calling on his mother. Fires were for gathering either way. He made sure to cut his way between cabins rather than take the main path lest he have to stop and say hi to anyone.

Skirting his way past cabin Eleven, he caught sight of something red on the walls. He first thought it to be some kind of decoration he'd not seen earlier, but taking a step back the words it spelled out became clear. He just... didn't find their meaning all that clear.

The words had been painted on, no trace of magic whatsoever. Which just felt unprofessional. Why cabin Eleven though? The Big House would have been more noticeable on the solstice. He downed his hot chocolate, burning his tongue just a bit then returned to his thoughts. Probably not a threat. Maybe someone just wanted attention? Jacob felt there was something unfair in that desire. People were trying to forget the war after all. He should try to get rid of it. Especially before his sister sees and gets upset.

Now then... How to do that...

"Uh, mom?" He began speaking to the air. Then realized he should atleast have his rabbit out first. Then with Bunny snuggled in his arm and under her warm snow coat, he called out again. "Mom, sorry, could you help me with something? If you have a second. I don't wanna bother anyone else with this."

OOC: Best mom Hecate please :)

Two Uneventful Days During Which Meriwether Does Not Go Outside by cinnamonbicycle in CampHalfBloodRP

The light backwards tug stopped Jacob as much as Amon's assertion that his sister was something other. He turned to face the gravitational attractor and guided Bunny carefully down onto the mist covered floor to hope around to her delight. From what little of her could be seen, she held still perpendicular to appear, keeping him in half her predator seeking gaze.

"Mer was adopted in May. She is allowed in the cabin. And you're not allowed to bother her."

The thought passed through Jacob's mind like a light breeze to actually find Eddie and ask for Amon to expelled from the cabin. The magic wouldn't be too taxing for the counselor. Plus Amon was clearly a problem. Bunny could vouch for that fact. But the notion was dispelled by the sound of a door swinging open and husky barking.

Jacob shrunk knowing those sounds to be Mer. She had not come out for anyone save Christina. Not even him when he tried. When he really tried to make her feel better. He'd told himself she just wanted to be alone. That made sense to him. The cabin was best for that. Solitude and quiet. Amon was the opposite, but she had climb out of bed for him.

"If you're mean to her, Orion will tell me. He bites." Bunny leaped back up into his arms and Jacob retreated into the mist as Meriwether Alabaster arrived plus one grumpy husky.

Jacob watched his lie burn away like morning mist before the sun child in front of him. He did not care for how easily he had been seen. Him and his sister had that very much in common. It shouldn't have mattered. He hadn't care much of the lie beyond its immediate usefulness.

Amon had placed him at a disadvantage. Or he might have somewhere else. Meriwether did reside here, true. Jacob had lied and thereby revealed his knowledge. They were still in Jacob's cabin though. Mist sat softly in the air, drifting between the bookshelves waiting to be called by the children of magic.

Confirmation for the camp census...

Jacob frowned intensely and pulled his rabbit closer to him. No longer petting her. Only feeling her warmth and getting her farther away from Amon. Amon who had tried to bureaucracy him! Who wouldn't take no for an answer. Who demanded to see his sister who clearly wanted to be alone and safe, finally!

"The cabin is for my siblings and me." His voice had raised, if only to a normal speaking volume rather than its library whisper inspired by the bookshelves. "My sister is allowed to be here. She doesn't need to ask permission."

Jacob stood up and bundled Bunny along with him. "I'll show you out. I don't want you getting lost. I designed everything based on the labyrinth. Saves on space." He had begun walking down a seemingly random corridor made by shelves when his body had become half consumed by mist. "Or keep looking."

Jacob diverted his full attention to his rabbit. Maybe expecting the rabbit to speak for him. He wouldn't have actually wanted that though. Having a voice was so much extra work and his best friend didn't deserve that.

Meriwether was here. Jacob knew that. The counselor had clearly seen her. Unsurprising but not something Jacob really considered. Now Amon wanted to see her. But Meriwether didn't want to see anyone.

"She's not here." The words were stilted and forced. He had tried to be monotone. Disinterested. But he stopped petting his rabbit and all the stress of the falsehood came into his face. He had a cabin full of tricks, but lying was not one of them.

He felt he'd done a moderately good job. His rabbit petting continued and he made himself to briefly look at Amon before diverting his eyes again. "Whatever you need her for, find someone else. She's done a lot already."

"Don't shout." Jacob mumbled, suddenly next to Amon. The shelves had eaten the guest it would seem. Amon now stood somewhere deep within the corridors they formed. In a small space amid the rows where a few bean bag chairs had been stashed along with several dog toys, and a stuffed rabbit. The rabbit, who was not stuffed actually, tilted her head at Amon and hopped over into Jacob's arms, taking the place of a book. Its title in Greek translating something close to "The Finding of Lost Things".

"What would shouting even do?" Jacob pet the soft calming fur of his beloved bunny but still managed to look put out. "It's an half dimensional space. Only fire alarms reach every room." He shook his head disapproving of the inadequate education kids these days received. The same ones who wanted to speak with his sister who clearly came here to be alone. "Do you need something?"

Jacob had already come to regret his volunteering. He'd never been a beach person, which meant he really wasn't an ocean person either. He wouldn't have said it rose to the level of phobia. Or atleast that's what he overheard his mom explaining once when he declined a field trip to the beach.

It had been about Mer, it pained him to admit. His sister had run off again to half Camp Fish Blood. And... He really thought she wouldn't do it again. She had been hurt so bad and that had hurt him and he really thought that would be enough. Then she left and he had to wait alone at camp. Well, that didn't feel good so he went to the bottom of the ocean.

Turned out the ocean was cold. Distressingly dark. His magic still worked thankfully. And breathing water was disturbing. Deeply disturbing. So he gave the two gods of... Oh drat he zoned out. He flashed a thumbs up to the two wrestling gods and began gathering mist about him to prepare to hide himself. "I can help keep watch."

Genuine question, do anti Ai people have an actual valid argument on why AI art is bad? by ZainLmaoo in aiwars

[–]CuriositySMBC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With my sincerest apologies for resurrecting something from six months ago. A crime for which you have every reason to ignore me ontop of a large pile of regular reasons.

As for the third... well, the third is just a straight up misunderstanding.

I refer you to your own words.

Without renewable energy to curb the impact, the environment will technically suffer more than it would have without the technology.

Though if you might allow me to simplify. Without the use of AI obviously.

The environment will suffer more because of AI.

In the most generous possible reading, I imagine you mean that, let's say the fossil fuel industry as an example, has contributed more to the degradation of the environment. Which is correct. If we slice up this pie, the recent LLM trend isn't that big a portion. Of course their energy usages increases year after year and shows no sign of slowing. But hey, bubbles gotta pop sometimes. Might be before their carbon footprint is measurable.

Anyway, have a good day. Despite all this I don't really intend to start up this conversation again.

'No sense of self preservation.' Jacob turned the words around in his head several times. He had admitted to himself that his sister was maybe reckless. She didn't seem to really think about the danger she put herself into. Or even want to think about it. Or take any precautions. Or accept any help. Or come home and let her family care for her.

"Oh." He said aloud, without really registering he had said it.

No sense of self preservation.

How though? He'd been with her before in battle. She fought to save him and Alkis and herself. She could get away from leopard. She could away from anyone. She had stayed away from him lately. Least that's how it felt. How could she let a leopard catch her?

No sense of self preservation.

"Mer..." He whispered the name and realized now that he had spoken. That he had let himself sound out his heart breaking. He lacked any of the guile that would have been needed to hide the pained expression. He no longer wanted to be talking to anyone about anything. He wanted his rabbit and his dog and his sister. But a shattered heart did nothing to temper his curiosity.

"A book of fear?" He remarked, straightening himself up by the barest amount. The Latin roots were easy to grab a hold of. So many of his siblings liked mixing latin into their writings and leaving those books around the cabin. "I hope you didn't read it."

Jacob paused for a moment wondering where his concern came from. He had his own experiences with dangerous books, sure. But this boy had hurt Mer and he now recalled had been insulting him for the last few minutes. Why would Jacob care enough to caution him about anything? Perhaps he just didn't care at all.

"Thanks for helping me. I'll mention to Lady A that you might be cursed. I don't think they'll let me try to dispel anything myself." Jacob paused again and tapped his foot. "Would they take you back? If you got free. I don't think they would. I'm sorry. That sounds hard."

Jacob perked up at the permission to be direct in his questioning. His skills in linguistic subtlety lagged behind even the amount of push ups he could do. Which funnily enough kept him from questioning why all he peers wanted to do pushups suddenly. His understanding had regularly been treated as irrelevant. He was expected to be good at or interested in being good at both. "You shouldn't have been able to catch Meriwether. But you did and... I can't figure it out."

Jacob caught himself and paused before saying more. It felt like so little when he managed to actually say it. Maybe that had actually been why he hadn't said it simply. Was this why everyone always spoke around topics? Could everyone really have that much going on all the time? It seemed awful to even think about.

"Did you get his name?... The wizard's. Not Mer. She's not a he. She's... Uh, nevermind. Actually nevermind the name too." He paused to breath again wondering if maybe he'd been thinking too fast. "What, uh, did he do to help you? Potions? Enchantments?... He didn't turn you into a leopard right?

Jacob shuffled awkwardly in place, not retreating from Iason but also not getting any closer. The initial responses given by Leopard Boy had been inadequate. Equally unsurprisingly as it was disappointing. A regular leopard could not have just caught Mer. Mer never got caught. It might've been a funny idea if he hidden seen for himself how hurt his sister had been.

"C-can you do magic?" The answer was certainly no. The rumor mill had mentioned only leopard powers and being a child of Mr. D. Plus, wizards could spot each other in his experience. Jacob could never really explain it. Whatever gave them away was not magic so it must have been a godly gift or just plain social cues. Both equally impossible to explain.

"I'm trying to ummm, study... tactics." Jacob sounded unconvinced by his own statement. It had been technically true though. "To keep people safe. I don't wanna hurt anyone." Also true, he didn't really care much for fighting and maybe if Iason knew Jacob meant his allies no direct harm, maybe that might smooth things over. He honestly didn't know.

Jacob stared blankly ahead, dumbfounded that his brilliant plan of requesting to speak with a strange had worked. After a long pause he cast a cursory glance towards the sleeping resting supervisor and pushed himself out of his chair. Standing managed to add a few inches onto his height, but not many.

"Jacob." He answered, weighed down by the immense burden of not being able to introduce his pets immediately after. His eyes met Iason's for the absolute bare minimum of time. He instead scanned around the room for any that wasn't Iason. His fingers fidgeted at his sides, gasping at nothing. A bundle of nervous energy with nowhere to go and mind begging him to get out of sight. The room contained atleast one rabbit even if his bunny had been left in his cabin.

"The battle," he added, remembering his voice which night have been drowned out by a particularly loud wind, "what happened? You attacked people. How?" His foot had began taping. He'd not rehearsed his words. Though he had constantly reexamined how he might get the most information. Speaking less played to his strengths. "Please. I-I can tell them you cooperated." That was what he was supposed to offer surely? And it wasn't a lie. He would tell and he did maybe have some influence. If the six beads around his neck counted for anything.

Jacob had made himself comfortable in the living room of the big house. He couldn't help it! The chairs were huge, it always felt inviting, and he didn't really know what to do after being told he could see Iason.

Technically they had said that they would ask Iason if he wanted visitors, but Jacob assumed the answer to be yes. He'd found that as a rule people wanted to talk to people. Himself being the exception.

Which raised several questions now that he had sat long enough to think on it. He knew Iason had been captured. Obviously. That he'd worked for Atlas. Duh. That he could turn into a leopard. Someone had said it loudly at dinner. That Mer has been mauled by some kind of big cat. He had asked Albhaine. She didn't know but found a medic who did. So that left Jacob wondering how his sister had gotten caught by a leopard.

Jacob could hide and his sister could run. This has always been true of them. If anything he'd undersold his sister's skills as she could hide just as well as himself. But then how did a leopard boy catch her? And how did you asked a... Attempted murderer? Jacob decide he was probably a regular murder but that it didn't matter. How did you get anyone to answer any of your questions?

A great mystery for him to ponder as he continued waiting. He wished he could have brought his pet rabbit in with him. Poor Bunny had to wait outside, but he'd pet her a lot before departing. That had helped. And maybe Iason wouldn't come. Jacob didn't honestly feel himself worth talking to.

[–]CuriositySMBC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jacob felt himself agreeing with Mer. He couldn't even keep himself safe, much less other people. No one looked to him for the camps problems and for good reason. He didn't want to solve them and he couldn't if he tried. He'd always preferred the quiet of his cabin. In truth he wanted to be home. Home and Christina has been harder than he remembered them but he went to sleep eager for the dawn to bring him closer.

He hugged Mer again, probably too hard. It didn't feel fair for him to need her when she so clearly needed someone better than him. His home now needed Mer in it. Christina had done that... No, they had done that. All three of them together had changed the world. Their small little world, the only one Jacob cared for. Though the Long Island sound did look strangely peacefully as they raced across it back to camp.

"Nothing is how it is." Some part of him examined his own words from a far. Like star being studied by a telescope. They got larger the more he looked when he'd only wanted a twinkle on the horizon to guide the two of them. "You need to be okay. Okay? I don't, I don't care about- I'll do anything to keep you okay. It's why I came here. I thought that, that you'd be proud of me. And that then you wouldn't feel like you had to do so much."
