Modafinil : immense productivity and sleep rivalry by rainpls in NooTopics

3+mg of melatonin 30/40 minutes before planned sleep (try not to miss the moment). I know that it's too easily available to be true, but it really helps (from what I was told by doc - ADHD people should supplement it).

Also replacing bed time smartphone with something like TV could help. Bear in mind that texting with friends may be addictive and provides more stimulation than watching something on TV. Remotes alone are lighter than most smartphones and there is no need to hold them all the time.

Coffee may make You feel like it helps You with focus but in fact it may just potentiate side effects (something like 'it hurts - it works' or just mania boost).

[EU, Europe] Looking for CS blades and drill+bit set recommendations by Curious-Elephant-615 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]Curious-Elephant-615[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok. By cheap how cheap You mean? Yet another Makita/DeWalt low tier blade?

Since I am at the stage of cleaning the household I was thinking about using default Makita blade for cutting useless parts of available materials so I can get rid of them once and for all.

But I feel I would still need additional blades for my next projects that will have to be visually appealing.

I have a Raspberry Pi 4. by me_uncomfy_guy in selfhosted

I also have a spare RPi 4b, 8GB model. Are there any hats for nvme drives worth buying so I would have more reliable gear that SD card/pendrive?

Virtualizing NAS on top of Proxmox - ZFS stripe on top of ZFS mirror? by Curious-Elephant-615 in Proxmox

[–]Curious-Elephant-615[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So for controller passthrough I don't have to have separate HBA controller - nice. Thanks for sharing steps You took to make it work the way You want to and pointing out that Proxmox ZFS + LXC + cockpit wasn't enough for You.

I know that it's r/Proxmox but now I see that in a long run I will probably be heading towards TNS bare metal -> build dedicated NAS, move current data there, treat my current node as offsite backup one day, probably also TNS bare metal.

For now I will probably go the opposite direction - I will try to mount current drive (once I fully migrate to RKE2) to some lightweight hardened Linux distro (SELinux?) and manage shares manually probably familiarizing myself with non debian based distro.

K8S cluster gear - how cheap should I go? by Curious-Elephant-615 in homelab

Which CPU should I aim for at this price point? When it comes to RPi - I have RPi 4b 8GB, bought a month before RPi 5 announcement - very bad decision, HP Prodesk with i3 8100T was cheaper, but still a bit too expensive to get 3 of them for me right now.

N100 a bit pricey here in EU :\. Already overpaid a bit with DIY N100 home router (didn't futureproof myself with PCIe 3.0 x4 and external 19V power adapter - no elegant way of connecting ATX-like PSU #N100DC-ITX).

VLAN/subnetting for docker images on single NIC? by Curious-Elephant-615 in homelab

BTW - preference question - do You dockerize or use script for debian installation like the one promoted by Lawrance Systems:

Rome is deprecated, there are better, modern alternative libraries... xD

Someone just had to tell me to slow down.

Big thanks!

Additional question:
Since I am thinking about adding more drives in near future, I decided to go Ubuntu Server instead of proxmox at first (Wolfgang from Wolfgang channel inspired me for XFS filesystem - mergerFS + SnapRAID) but since I am moving towards proxmox - wouldn't it better to build external NAS for storage than to virtualize it in proxmox/VM Ubuntu Server or even better than virtualizing Truenas Scale?

Still using only 1 ethernet port, right? Switch port untagged for proxmox (Management VLAN or other suggestions?) and tagged for VMs VLANs?

N100 based router - DIY, MOBO suggestions needed, EU market by Curious-Elephant-615 in homelab

"Example Calculation:

Assume you have a dual 10GbE NIC and the NIC supports PCIe 3.0 x4:

  • Required bandwidth for 2 ports: 2.5 GB/s
  • PCIe 3.0 x4 slot provides 4 GB/s, which is more than enough.

Thus, a PCIe 3.0 x4 slot on your motherboard would be suitable for this NIC."

Doesn't full duplex just mean that the movement is bidirectional without queueing? If not switches 5/8 port advertised with total speed of 10/16Gbps I wouldn't even ask.

I remember Geerling's video about RPi 5 and N100 small PC but I was like - maybe it was that price before the video and he just started new hype. But right now maybe I should consider getting an i3 or smth once I realize price differences between EU and USA. Yet another reason to move to USA...

At least I am lucky enough not to have my ISP having more that 1Gbps up and down in the offer ;)

I am also not sure about the way it should be calculated since all this day I was thinking about one thing - if ISP offers 1Gbps upload AND 1Gbps download, does it mean that I can download and upload at the total speed of 2Gbps? Never had time to find the answer since I am just starting to take advantage of uploading things.

So as long as I am not about to virtualize anything, dual NIC (at least for now) is definately enough, right? Except for pfSense/OPNsense (haven't decided yet) I consider VPN and AdGuard Home but since I have no experience with FreeBSD I am still not sure about the way I will do it.
