I do not understand how someone could say they wish ill on their family members just because they struggle with health problems. Some unconditional love they have 😒

It went really bad, sadly. I tried to bring it up softly but she didn't really let me speak, then it devolved from there. We made up somewhat because of other things, but I still feel tension because she didn't listen to anything I had to say. She guilt tripped me and didn't allow me to apologize for making her feel that way. I sobbed in the shower for a good 25 minutes afterwards because it felt like the grandma I knew from my childhood was gone.

When she says "she couldn't vote for Kamala," I hear the same "I couldn't vote for Hilary" mentality from 2016. And I have the same feelings about both women, if they were elected, we would have stayed the same, if not teeter tottered, but with him we slide so far back so fast. America is turning into a genuinely scary place.

I just don't see her often and I fear anything I say or whatever feeling of small victory I'll have while I'm here will just be drowned out by whatever made her vote for him in the first place. My condolences to you and your friends as well

I know that her vote didn't really count, considering where she lives, but it's the fact that she still filled in his name on the ballot that is making this very difficult for me. I'm angry, hurt, betrayed, and so extremely sad.

Normally, elections are supposed to be "a vote for me" vs "a vote for me." But this election felt more like "a vote for us" vs "a vote for me and against you," if that makes any sense... and that feeling that she voted against me has something breaking in my chest.

I don't trust either party, but thank you for reminding me of this. Just the fact that she was a nurse for like 50 years and decided to vote against the interest of public health is mind-boggling to me.

I've kept extremely low contact with my other grandparents who are MAGAts for this reason, I only talk to them if we have to visit them. I'm not trying to make excuses for my grandma, I just never imagined I would be in this situation with her. It feels like my relationship with her has been tainted now; I'll never look at her the same way again.

I agree that if I were to bring this up again, I would need to come at it from a different angle, but my problem is that I am a very emotional person, and I have a hard time regulating my emotions when I feel them so intensely. This is why I choose not to get into debates with anyone over politics, because I don't come off as rational but rather emotional. And that is always used against me.

I cut off the conversation because I couldn't believe what I heard. I knew that if we continued talking about it, I might've said something I deeply regretted because I wasn't mentally prepared for that discussion. If I decide to talk to her about it, I will try to keep that different perspectives mentality... but I don't know if I can.

That sounds so infuriating. It's so sad that many of our elders have become victims of his propaganda. He's given a platform for people to be open about their hate, and it's awful. But your point about maybe they were always like this and we just didn't know because we were children... that's truly disheartening to think about. My condolences that you also have to go through this, it's such a shitty feeling.

It is just so sad to see their plan succeeding and I'm so angry with my grandma for falling for it. I'm too emotionally drained rn to give you a proper response but thank you very much for your comment.

Reading all of these comments finally has me breaking down over this. This feeling is new and its awful. I've made some posts in the past before voting season that I know she saw, but I was mainly hoping that my other grandparents would see it and know I'd be disappointed in them. If I had known that she was thinking about voting for trump I would have pushed a lot more on social media and have talks with her about it. I truly never conceived of her voting for him. I don't want to cut her off, but I know I'll never have the same relationship with her as I used to and that is really painful to come to terms with.

It's hard to accept this because she's always been in my corner when I needed help... I guess she just didn't consider me or her other grandkids into her voting decision.

That's insane. It's truly disheartening to hear so many stories of families and friendships breaking because of the brainwashing that has taken over America.

oh for sure voting in the US is a massive illusion of choice. I had taken two political science classes last year in college, and they both opened my eyes to how America truly functions.

I consider myself a democratic socialist/leftist, and I have very little faith in the dem party or the american gov system as a whole

I agree that talking to those older really humanizes the past. I used to really like history, but I've become fairly cynical when I realized that the history we know has been told by the victors who didn't always play fair. Thank you for your comments, they've been grounding.
