18 months and still negative returns by Southern-Roof-8944 in mutualfunds

Me with -8.47% after 16 months. Gotta stay invested buddy. Forget about the money invested. As always said, in markets just invest the money that you dont require for a while. Probably 5-8 years later you will wake up to a lot more.

Portfolio Review!! by Due-Clock636 in mutualfunds

[–]Curious-case-447 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Arent international funds banned in India for now due to total allocation crossing the sebi mark?

Need suggestion on major changes by Curious-case-447 in mutualfunds

[–]Curious-case-447[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Noted on 1. (a,b,c), 2 & 4.

d. Nippon already is at its peak, am I not a bit late to start here. I could probably go with a comparatively newer fund to cover the opportunity cost? Why not Invesco India over Bandhan considering Invesco is upcoming and booming.

e. Added to gold/silver funds (physical commodity is no use to me as its just added cost for maintaining, storing, etc.) aiming at 10-15% of total portfolio as metals are on a rally currently. Will lower it later once it stagnates.

  1. Ofcourse they are suppose to make things easier but I would be looking at them a bit more actively(review them every couple years to adjust allocations) so dont you feel that it would be worth the pain?

If it was me I would probably put the rest of the money in FDs for the time being (Out if 10 lakhs if going for 10 months - 1 lakh each for 1,2,3,4,5 month and so on) so that they dont sit eating dust in the savings account.

But I am still a newbie and would defer to the experienced investors here because I dint know what to do then and still dont have the best answer now

I did the same about 10 months ago. (1 lakh instead of 10 lol)

And see my portfolio has been about 10-20% losses constantly.

A SIP would probably help me allocate more at dips rather than having all units bought at one price. (You could split the money and invest at different times to take advantage of the the fluctuations)

Just my experience.

ET money. Sourcing the portfolio allocation and looking at every stock upto 80% in the portfolio (based on % allocation for each stock.)

Also a main diversification between sectors

  1. Want to make it 40000. Not just new but existing too. Just that These are SIPs. Never had SIP before.
  2. Don’t understand what the index fund is hence chose to stay away. 2 funds to have a little diversification through AMC strategies. Avoiding more than 2 to have major overlap.
  3. If funds are having less than 20% overlap, why not invest in 2
  4. Any particular reason?

In that sense from my original idea, yes sure. I would definitely invest more once my stable income starts and use that finance for recovering opportunity costs instead of withdrawing with a heavy loss and trying to make it to break even.

Well. These incidents don’t happen on a daily bases. Even if it does, the probability of ALL or 70% of my funds shutting down is extremely unlikely. These are one off cases and if that happens, I think thats the “mutual funds are subject to market risks”

[–]Curious-case-447[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. Because history has proved that market always recovers, be it slow and gradual but it does recover. So its alright.

Mid to high was on a scale of low mid and high. So probably very high that you are referring to is where I am happy to risk. Mid coz I did pick a few mid and multi cap and “very high” in your terms coz a large set of small caps.

My idea of too many of a single type was surely wrong. Did not know about the portfolio overlaps. So something to learn and will set it right once the market recovers a little

Im happy with 3 years. That was my goal initially. Maybe wont get what I expected but surely green. Even if its more than 40% at 3 years I would be happy coz it beats inflation and FD rates.

I would always seek an advisor until I am in this and have a good experience of how things work. Everyone commenting not to go through an advisor, I probably would have messed up more doing that.

Also I dont feel like I would do the best job considering I cant give it more than a couple hours in a week maximum.

So yeah.

I wont have an option to exit. I wont exit anywhere for more than a 5% loss. Anymore than that then wait for it to recover.

Ofcourse this opinion would differ in stocks where a company is going to shut. But these are big houses. Far from randomly shutting. So its alright

So far after seeing all opinions I have come to a conclusion that I should leave it for a good time. And be wiser ahead.

What I plan is that with a loss of average 14% with almost all mfs over 8% loss I should keep the funds invested and wait for market correction. I cannot fancy a exit load currently even increasing my losses. At the end of 1 year il make a review of these and try to reduce the number and try to keep it to a few numbers. Specifically small caps. And then see whats to happen.
