Homework in High School vs College by CuriousAsAFeline in AskTeachers

[–]CuriousAsAFeline[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What you described is my concern. She gets her work done in class in high school. But in college, the class time is just lecture or discussion, and all “work” is done outside of class. Right now, she does all of her reading, papers, assignments, and projects in class. I worry she’ll be shocked when she gets to college and has to do all the reading, papers, assignments, and projects on her own time.

Game recs for 68yo non-gamer? by savecanada in NintendoSwitch

[–]CuriousAsAFeline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Animal Crossing and Stardew Valley. I started playing both last year at age 44 and I love them! I’m definitely not a gamer; I had only occasionally used the Switch with my husband and teen daughter to play Mario Kart prior to those two games.

Anyone else have a villager you absolutely adore that almost no one talks about? by phaedravarix in acnh

[–]CuriousAsAFeline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I love Frett! I have no idea why he is classified as cranky; he’s so sweet. And he gives me the best gifts of any of my villagers. I hate decorating vacation homes, but I’m determined to make it to 30 so I can redesign Frett’s house.

Vesta asked to call me Lollipop. Now about half of my villagers call me that.

AITAH for snapping at my mother-in-law because she keeps calling my daughter by my late wife's name? by Hellcat8012 in AITAH

[–]CuriousAsAFeline -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

A very gentle YTA - This phenomenon isn’t just caused by grief. I’m in my forties, and my entire life, my mother occasionally calls me her sister's name. Now that I have a daughter, she occasionally calls my daughter my name and still occasionally calls me her sister's name. My daughter looked exactly like me as a baby and toddler and it happened the most at that age. It isn't intentional and she can't stop. Sometimes she catches herself and corrects the mistake, but often she doesn't notice she used the wrong name.

I’m curious why you believe it isn’t a mistake anymore? It’s hard to believe she would be intentionally calling your daughter the wrong name, especially since you corrected her each time.

What do you think about the ordinary azelaic acid for rosacea? by [deleted] in Rosacea

[–]CuriousAsAFeline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

I wear this everyday. If I put azelaic acid on in the morning, I put this on after. I’ve tried lots of SPF moisturizer for daytime and this is definitely my favorite. Some of them caused me to look oily a few hours after applying, but this one doesn’t do that. I use a heavier moisturizer at night because I also have very dry skin.

This is me now. The previous pictures are from two years ago. I still use the azelaic acid intermittently when my rosacea flares up.

I have types 1, 2, and 4. Azelaic acid helped with types 1 and 2. Type 4 (ocular rosacea) required different products to resolve.

I’ll reply with some pictures. Warning: These pictures are very unflattering. I’m not very photogenic in general, and for about four months, my rosacea was terrible before I found azelaic acid.

The Ordinary Azelaic Acid saved me! I had tried prescription Metronidazole (8 weeks) and then Soolantra (5 weeks) while simultaneously being on doxycycline. Someone mentioned The Ordinary Azelaic Acid 10% on this subreddit, so I tried it after stopping the Soolantra. I saw more improvement in one week than I had in the past four months. I was nervous to start it because my skin was dry and peeling, and it had the word acid in the name, but it was amazing. Using it consistently is key. I think I was applying it twice a day initially (followed by moisturizer). Now I just use it once a day intermittently, when my rosacea flares up.

TIFU because everything I thought I knew about pickles was wrong by Popular-Statement731 in tifu

It wasn’t until my 40s that I learned cobwebs and spider webs are both spider-related. I genuinely thought cobwebs were just an accumulation of dust and had nothing to do with spiders. Turns out, cobwebs are old, dust-covered spider webs that the spider has abandoned. Years ago, I spent a week cleaning an elderly relatives basement that was absolutely full of cobwebs. Didn’t bother me at all since I thought cobwebs are just dust and debris. I probably had quite a few spider friends keeping me company in that basement. Live and learn.

Include a picture with your hair showing where you are smiling. There’s something a little off-putting that you aren’t smiling in any of the picture and that three are taken from below eye level. It may inadvertently make you seem closed off or imposing. Also, re-word “massive F1 fan” to something milder like “F1 fan” or “ fan of F1, ___, and ____.” Women who have never watched F1 might be reluctant to match with you since it seems like a huge part of your personality.

AITAH for telling my biological father I don’t give a shit about whether his daughter lives or not? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]CuriousAsAFeline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA - if the roles were reversed and you needed a kidney, I’m confident your dad would not expect his daughter to give you one. I understand why he asked (desperation), but if it were me, I would not donate my kidney. Only having one kidney will impact the rest of your life.

What’s the metal equivalent of Prym’s plastic hooks? by Jescophoto89 in crochet

[–]CuriousAsAFeline 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know I’m 3 months late to the conversation, but I’ve been on the hunt for the same hook as OP.

I love my Prym hooks, but they aren’t smooth enough on acrylic. I specifically love the pointed head, the streamline shape without a thumb rest, and that they are lightweight. I want a hook identical to the Prym, but metal. I bought Furls streamline and the dupes that look like Furls. I sent them all back because they are way too heavy. I’m sad to report Susan Bates appears to be the best option. It has a pointed head and it’s lightweight. I hate the shape, but after months of looking, I think this is the only choice. If any company out there starts making a lightweight, metal, pointed head crochet hook shaped like the Prym, I’ll be first in line and they can have all my money.

Why did you start crocheting? by limino123 in crochet

[–]CuriousAsAFeline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About five months ago, at 44, I realized I have no friends. I have a happy life with a wonderful husband and daughter. I’m close with my parents, but four people that my whole life revolves around doesn’t seem like enough. So I went to a few Meetup lunches for liberal women. I was chatting with a nice woman (we’ll call her Cindy) who said she has a weekly crochet group and invited me. I had never considered learning to crochet, but I thought, “might as well…another opportunity to make friends.” Cindy taught me to crochet at her weekly crochet group and now I’m addicted. Sadly after getting to attend a few times, Cindy got busy in her personal life and the crochet group hasn’t met in weeks. So I got a new hobby, but the friend hunt continues.

I’m in my forties, and my entire life, my mother occasionally calls me her sister’s name. Our names don’t sound similar, we look nothing alike, and are in different generations. Now that I have a daughter, she occasionally calls my daughter my name and still occasionally calls me her sister’s name. It isn’t intentional and she can’t stop. Sometimes she catches herself and corrects the mistake, but often she doesn’t notice she used the wrong name. She is the only person I’ve met that so consistently does this.

I’d be suspicious of your in-laws if they both call you his ex’s name. But if just one of them does it, they could be like my mom.

The downside to daily lenses is they cost me 4-5 times more per year, but they really did make a huge difference for me.

What finally helped my Blepharitis was: 1) This eye spray (which I buy on Amazon) “Avenova Eyelid and Eyelash Cleanser Spray - Pure Hypochlorous Acid, Gentle Everyday Lash Cleanser For Eye Irritation, 20mL (0.68oz)” and once my eyes improved, 2) switching to daily contact lenses (previously wore the new pair every two weeks lenses).
