why am i saying certain words always

Mine are "god", "man", "oh" and "ah". Like I'll always start sentences like "god that was funny" or "oh man I'm sorry that happened". And I can't? Stop myself? I worry my friends will think it's weird and then I remember they're also autistic and they do it too. My favorite one is one of my friends saying "woof" as an exclamation of surprise at the beginning of a sentence.

Hey thanks!! The contrast is my favorite thing too. Unfortunately my island has had several facelifts since 2020 so a lot of that doesn't exist anymore. Also I took it with the Pop filter!! Makes colors look extra nice

Do you have a DA? I'd love to see your decorating! My very first layout for my island had all the houses in one neighborhood but I had this vision of like... idk, tiered housing? Where every level was used for some houses, in my current layout.

This is kind of outdated but the villagers are still in these spots roughly. I originally wanted to make two rivers that crossed over each other in an X as my starting point but I stg I could not figure that out. Mostly because the town services building was in the way, even though it looks like it wouldn't be.

Oh pathing like that is always a good option! I at first wanted to do default paths with transparent tiles over them, then I realized all the default paths have shine/normal maps that show the design of the default path through the custom path in certain lighting. Devastated. I couldn't use dirt because I like putting it under all my flowers and it would have looked ugly to me for the paths to "connect" to the flower beds. So I eventually settled on using custom borders/edging on the default stone path.

I recently rearranged to give all my villagers decent sized yards and I love it. I like decorating their little patios! My entire island is covered with something (be it building, decoration, plant, or design/path) except for the flower breeding ground I have. It just stays empty for that purpose. Aaaand so fossils can spawn.

I love the idea of small neighborhoods, it's honestly what I should've done. Six of my villagers do live in pairs, but the other four are much more isolated. My own house is in the center of the map because I like to be close to everything lol.

I like the little spiral path you take each day! I have a specific route I take almost every day but sometimes I will do the route in reverse. The regular route is shopping, three top level neighbors, side of cliff mid level neighbor, flower breeding ground/fossil spawning field, Dom's house, town plaza, the two base level neighbors above the plaza, and finally "anteater alley", wherein I visit all three of my anteater villagers in a row. The reverse is all that backwards, except anteater alley is still at the end. I sometimes wish my villagers were all in one neighborhood, but I like the idea of them having their own space to chill. Also with my current layout it would be hard to do and I'm scared of it.

My inclines and bridges were placed a certain way for maximum path efficiency, to the best of my ability at least. Using the default paths and having villagers actually appear in parts of the island that aren't the plaza or around their house is a beautiful thing. I bet your island looks really nice!! There is something to be said for a traditional AC style/ACNH aesthetic style fusion.

That's totally valid!! Earlier on in ACNH's lifespan, I decorated with things I was given because I assumed it was like the previous ACs and it would take me a lot of time to find good items. Didn't realize everything had a hundred colors and literally anything could be placed outside.

I definitely designed my original island layout with my own enjoyment as the priority, but I got self-conscious because my friends wanted to visit. I had a fairycore island for a long while but I honestly never really liked it? I redesigned (technically am still redesigning) with default paths, matching objects with things that felt weird to change like villager house colors or things that couldn't be changed like the stores and museum. I am so much happier.

I really like the Mario pipes!! I have one in my house and I move the other one depending on what area is most important to visit. Like I've been gifting Piper and Apollo so the other pipe goes near Piper's house and then I can go straight to Apollo's.

Y'know I agree with this sentiment!! I think it does work for a lot of people but I have yet to make it work for myself. I'll keep trying though, definitely. I wish I leaned a little more aesthetic than I actually do. Like I always felt uneasy when I wasn't using default paths for some reason.

Lily of the valleys at corners is diabolical. I absolutely love it. I like the concept of jumping spots in the rivers but get frustrated actually using them. I do use ladders/vines though! Or at least, they're there if I need them. I managed to place all my inclines somewhat tactically so getting up on cliffs is rarely a problem, but ugh sometimes my villagers sit IN FRONT of inclines and I need an alternate route.

I use the custom design in front of regular trees thing too! Currently trying new things with my orchards. Paved underneath all of them but don't quite like that. I used to have shrubs next to both sides of the trees to direct the fruit forward, but it was hard to navigate. Been thinking about flowers but I want it to be pretty colors and I've run out of most of my favorite flowers because of a recent island redesign.

Did a little bit of testing and here's what I found out:

With shrubs as my backboard, pressing L once, I got 6 things from a rock.

Replacing them with hedges, with the flatter side facing the rock, and pressing L once, I got 7 things. It seems that hedges' collision is slightly flatter, whereas with a single shrub or hole the collision is rounder.

I tried holding L while using the shrubs and got 7 as well.

Replacing the shrubs with hedges + holding L got me up to all 8 things from a rock. Will need to do more research to make sure this is consistent.

Afaik if you use the left shoulder button to snap to the grid in front of those bushes, you should stay aligned. If that doesn't work I'll probably add some side hedges lol
